Flashpoint Friday-World of Flashpoint: Featuring The Flash - GeekMom Meanwhile, Kid Flash Lost winds up being an insightful story about what Bart has been up to, unpacking his role in Flashpoint. Barry Allen has been a hero since his first appearance in He was motivated by the simple desire to do good, in his career as a police scientist and as an accidental superhero. Further complicating matters is that Barry was later succeeded as the Flash by Wally West. And you thought all the Robins were complicated! Watching Kid Flash out-think someone like Brainiac is impressive. Turns out Iris was also a native of that time period. So they lived happily ever happy, had twins, and then Crisis on Infinite Earths happened and Barry died saving the multiverse. Fast forward a bit. Wally has taken over as the Flash when a visitor from another time arrives. Bart, then known as Impulse, suffered from a hyper-acclerated metabolism, causing him to appear twelve when he was actually two years old. Bart could also learns at super-speed. I could barely stomach Flashpoint: The World of Flashpoint Featuring the Flash of the scenes with Plastic Man. Corrina: Absolutely agreed. The level of gore in Flashpoint was much too high for me. I hope they dial it back with the upcoming animated movie. Dakster: For a single issue comic, Reverse Flash 1 gave us everything we needed to know, at the right pace. Kid Flash Lost kept me on the edge of my seat, watching as a teenager handled a villain normally considered out of his league. Your email address will not be published. The opening story with Abin Sur and Sinestro was pretty good but the rest of this book was forgettable at best. Hal Jordan - 3. Liked it otherwise. Abin Sur - 2. Even his supposedly large role in the final battle does not even merit a single panel in the main series. Ollie deserved more. Average Rating Flashpoint: The World of Flashpoint Featuring the Flash 2. I didn't get into this one. Granted I am not as well versed in the Corps canon, but I knew all the major players and still found it a bit contrived. I actually enjoyed the green arrow story more And I have never seen Frankenstein as a superhero but I liked his story a lot. The back stories are a little weak there but I was surprised to find I would read more about him. Are Frankenstein and Creatures of the Unknown a thing? I like it, DC. I like it. View 1 comment. I somehow liked the Frankenstein and the Creatures of the unknown. The narrative and Flashpoint: The World of Flashpoint Featuring the Flash characters kept me hooked. Their story starts from World War 2 and how they end up in the current era. This mini-series was really interesting to read. On the hindsight, w This TBP starts off with Abin-Sur's mini-series which gives us a brief on his existence and how he plays a major role in the grand scheme of things. On the hindsight, we also get Hal Jordon who in this world is a Piolet as any other previous story arcs. He is as irresponsible as all his other story arcs but one good thing is he does an ultimate sacrifice to prove his worth. We also get a glimpse of Green Arrow industries where they build a final weapon to end the great war between Atlantians and the Amazonians. On a whole, this TBP was not great but not bad either. The storyline is well crafted by writer Adam Schlagman, and despite Sinestro going a little too crazy a little to We open this volume with the Abin Sur mini-series, which seems to starts us off on a good note. The art is also fairly consistent, despite there being around 4 artists on the three issues. Next up is Frankenstein and the Creatures of the Unknown, which is intriguing. Throughout the one-shot he begins to change his mind, and I think, given more time, this could really have been expanded into something noteworthy. Despite his odd name, Pornsak Pichetshote does an admirable job here, and his storyline is backed up nicely by Ig Guara and Marco Castiello on the art duties, with the latter handling a bittersweet flashback and the former tackling the rest of the issue. My favourite one-shot, by far. And bringing up the rear is the Hal Jordan mini-series, also by Adam Schlagman.

  • Crossmedia Adaptation and the Development of Continuity in the Dc Animated Universe
“INFINITE EARTHS”: CROSSMEDIA ADAPTATION AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF CONTINUITY IN THE DC ANIMATED UNIVERSE Alex Nader A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS May 2015 Committee: Jeff Brown, Advisor Becca Cragin © 2015 Alexander Nader All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Jeff Brown, Advisor This thesis examines the process of adapting comic book properties into other visual media. I focus on the DC Animated Universe, the popular adaptation of DC Comics characters and concepts into all-ages programming. This adapted universe started with Batman: The Animated Series and comprised several shows on multiple networks, all of which fit into a shared universe based on their comic book counterparts. The adaptation of these properties is heavily reliant to intertextuality across DC Comics media. The shared universe developed within the television medium acted as an early example of comic book media adapting the idea of shared universes, a process that has been replicated with extreme financial success by DC and Marvel (in various stages of fruition). I address the process of adapting DC Comics properties in television, dividing it into “strict” or “loose” adaptations, as well as derivative adaptations that add new material to the comic book canon. This process was initially slow, exploding after the first series (Batman: The Animated Series) changed networks and Saturday morning cartoons flourished, allowing for more opportunities for producers to create content. References, crossover episodes, and the later series Justice League Unlimited allowed producers to utilize this shared universe to develop otherwise impossible adaptations that often became lasting additions to DC Comics publishing.

The figure of the “metahuman,” the human with superpowers and purpose, embodies the transfigured nerd whose defects—intellect, swarm-behavior, abnormality, flux, and love of machines—become virtues of survival in the twenty-first century. The conflict among capitalism, fascism, and communism, which drove the Cold War and its immediate aftermath, also drove the Golden and Silver Ages of Comics. In the era of planetary emergency, these forces reconfigure themselves as different versions of world-destruction. The metahuman also signifies going “beyond” these economic and political systems into orders that preserve democracy without destroying the biosphere. Therefore, the styles of metahuman figuration represent an appeal to tradition and a technique of transformation. I call these strategies the iconic style and metamorphic style. The iconic style, more typical of DC Comics, makes the hero an icon of virtue, and metahuman powers manifest as visible signs: the “S” of Superman, the tiara and golden lasso of Wonder Woman.

  • Blackest Night / Brightest Day Jumpchain What Is Death in a World
Blackest Night / Brightest Day Jumpchain What is death in a world like this one? Great heroes and villains alike have tasted the sweet kiss of oblivion, both deserving and not. Yet death has also been defied, and many more have returned to life through circumstance or miracle. Two heroes in particular – Hal Jordan, a Green Lantern of Earth, and Barry Allen, The Flash, both ponder this together as they talk over the gravestone of Bruce Wayne. Both had died and returned to life before. And soon, many more will return as well...but not in a way they or anyone else would expect. Recently, the Green Lantern Corps, a peacekeeping organization created by the self-touted Guardians of the Universe, have been at war with the Sinestro Corps founded by its namesake rogue who fell from grace in the past. As this conflict raged on, other Lantern Corps were discovered or created as all seven colors on the Emotional Spectrum were revealed to the galaxy. But as this conflict and chaos rages on, a prophecy is fulfilled and as the various colors come into battle with each other, a darker force awakens. The Entity of Death, Nekron, acting through the villain Death’s Hand, has prepared to unleash a plague on the entire universe. One that will see the billions of dead across all of creation rise and seek to ravage the living, before extinguishing all life entirely within the Blackest Night. Just as this conversation began, you appear. You are a new or veteran member of one of the existing Lantern Corps...unless you are a Black Lantern, in which you rise from death not long after as the crisis of the Blackest Night begins.

  • Why No Wonder Woman?
Why No Wonder Woman? A REPORT ON THE HISTORY OF WONDER WOMAN AND A CALL TO ACTION!! Created for Wonder Woman Fans Everywhere Introduction by Jacki Zehner with Report Written by Laura Moore April 15th, 2013 Wonder Woman - p. 2 April 15th, 2013 AN INTRODUCTION AND FRAMING “The destiny of the world is determined less by battles that are lost and won than by the stories it loves and believes in” – Harold Goddard. I believe in the story of Wonder Woman. I always have. Not the literal baby being made from clay story, but the metaphorical one. I believe in a story where a woman is the hero and not the victim. I believe in a story where a woman is strong and not weak. Where a woman can fall in love with a man, but she doesnʼt need a man. Where a woman can stand on her own two feet. And above all else, I believe in a story where a woman has superpowers that she uses to help others, and yes, I believe that a woman can help save the world. “Wonder Woman was created as a distinctly feminist role model whose mission was to bring the Amazon ideals of love, peace, and sexual equality to ʻa world torn by the hatred of men.ʼ”1 While the story of Wonder Woman began back in 1941, I did not discover her until much later, and my introduction didnʼt come at the hands of comic books. Instead, when I was a little girl I used to watch the television show starring Lynda Carter, and the animated television series, Super Friends.

SUCK IT, GOYER! LOL! EXT. SPACE TOMAR-RE (V.O) Billions of years ago, when the Martians refused to serve as the Guardians’ intergalactic police force, the elders of Oa created a sentinel army based on the Martian race… they named them Manhunters. INSERT: MANHUNTERS TOMAR-RE (V.O) At first the Manhunters served diligently, maintaining law and order across the universe, until one day they began to resent their masters. A war broke out between the two forces with the Guardians winning and banishing the Manhunters across the universe, stripping them of whatever power they had left. Some of the Manhunters found their way to earth upon which entering our atmosphere they lost any and all remaining power. As centuries went by man began to unearth some of these sentinels, using their advance technology to build empires on land… and even in the sea. INSERT: ATLANTIS EXT. Thaal Sinestro, at the time Sinestro: Vol.4: Fall of Sinestro universe's greatest Green Lantern, was sent to Earth by Supernova in a plot to erase Guy Gardner from history. Booster Gold was assigned to prevent this from happening. To do so, he convinced Sinestro to leave Earth, claiming that he was an admirer from the future, and that his yellow Legion of Super-Heroes flight ring was a tribute to Sinestro. When asked what Corps he belongs to, Booster ad- libbed, "The Sinestro Corps", leading Sinestro to twirl his mustache in thought while mumbling, "Of course Of course. • Hatton I the Flash of War: How Ame.-Ican Patriotism
Hatton I The Flash of War: How Ame.-ican patriotism evolved through the lens of The Flaslt comic boo)(S throughout the Cold War era An Hon01·s Thesis (HONRS 499) by Rachel Hatton Thesis Advisor Professor Ed Krzemi enski Ball State University Muncie, Indiana May 201 7 Expected Date of Graduation May 201 7 ( f'1 - LV Hatton 2 ~L}~9 - L j f).OJ7 Abstract Comic book superheroes became a uniquely American phenomenon beginning in the wake of World War TT. The characters and situations often reflected and alluded to contemporary events. Comic books are a vibrant cultural artifact through which people can get a glimpse into the past. The way in which Americans view their country and their faith in the government changed rather drastically between the end of World War II and the end of the Cold War in 1991, when the Soviet Union was officially dissolved. Throughout the duration of this paper, patriotism, as a ideological product of culture, will be looked at through the lens of The Flash and Flash comic book series from 1956 when The Flash reappeared, after a period of censorship and decline in superheroes' popularity post-WWTT, to the beginning of the 1990s. By looking at The Flash specifically, this thesis contributes to more nuanced research and further understanding of culture and the American view of patriotism during the Cold War era, a time of cultural and ideological upheaval. Acknowledgments I would like to thank my advisor, Professor Krzemienski for supporting me in this endeavor and understanding when I was at my busiest times of the semester.
