CHANCELLOR MESSAGE
University of Kurdistan is a comprehensive and research-based university promoting entrepreneurship, knowledge development, and education excellence. Located in Western Iran, it is one of the most highly regarded universities of the country which aspires to edu- cate committed and highly competent graduates by developing its collaboration at national, and international levels. As the largest and most influential university in Kurdistan Province, the four main missions of the University of Kurdistan are: (1) training well-educated and effective professionals; (2) carrying out research, including basic, applied, and developmental; (3) entrepreneurship; and (4) social responsibility and social impact. The most important educational programs in this university are increasing graduate and postgraduate opportunities in prioritized scien- tific areas, enhancing education quality, developing graduates’ professional and employability skills, and expanding applied and interdis- ciplinary fields of study with an emphasis on strategic planning in higher education and virtual training. Considering that the University of Kurdistan is an international university, we place special emphasis on science diplomacy in the international arena. In terms of research and technology, the University of Kurdistan, while improving the quality of research and technology, is giving considerable attention to the research standing of the university and its share of scientific research production at national, regional, and international levels and strives to develop academic entrepreneurship and knowledge commercialization. Investigating the current and future global trends and identifying the strengths and weaknesses of our own community, we strive to -max imize our relationship with society and accomplish our social responsibility with the help of our faculty colleagues. In addition, we try to lead the regional policies, including economic, social, cultural, and even political, to gain a better position in all different areas; therefore, we always try to enhance collaboration with industry, society and the government at national and regional levels.

About Us
A Brief History of University of Kurdistan
The University of Kurdistan commenced its activities as the Higher College of Sanandaj, an affiliate of Tarbiat Moallem Universi- ty of Tehran, in the academic year 1974-1975. Its first intake of students was in the field of Mathematics Teacher Training. In the following academic year, the college became an off-campus faculty of Kermanshah’s Razi University and was thereafter named the Teacher Training Faculty of Sanandaj. In addition to admitting students in Mathematics Teacher Training, it began to accept students in Chemistry and English. By expanding its pedagogical activities and conducting research in a wide variety of fields, this teacher training unit was granted university status by the Ministry of Higher Education and Culture in 1991. Henceforth it became known as the University of Kurdistan. Since then a wide range of courses at various levels have been added to the uni- versity’s graduate and postgraduate program lists. Currently, University of Kurdistan has 9441 students, studying 232 different degree programs in 8 different faculties.

Faculty of Science The Faculty of Science, as the first faculty of the University Kurdistan, was founded in 1991. However, this faculty had commenced its activities as an affiliate of Tarbiat Moallem University of Tehran much earlier in 1974. This faculty currently is regarded as the largest faculty with regard to the number and variety of degree programs, and is offering different degree levels in the departments of physics, mathematics, chemistry, biology, and statistics.

Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Although the Faculty of Literature and Humanities was established as the second faculty of the University of Kurdistan in 1991, this faculty started its educational activities much earlier in 1976 with the admission of students in English language studies. The Faculty of Literature and Humanities was officially divided into two separate faculties in 2012: the Faculty of Human- ities and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Literature and Foreign Languages. The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences currently has 11 departments that are involved in teaching and research activities.

Faculty of Language and Literature
The Faculty of Language and Literature officially began its teaching and research activities in October 2012 and prior to that it was part of the Faculty of Literature and Humanities. It is worth mentioning that the disbanded Faculty of Literature and Humanities was estab- lished in 1991 as the second faculty of the University of Kurdistan, but began its teaching activities much earlier in 1976 by accepting students majoring in English language teacher training and later es- tablishing 14 departments. The Faculty of Language and Literature currently has 4 departments offering 5 undergraduate programs, 5 Master’s programs and 1 Ph.D. program to over 760 students.

Faculty of Agriculture
The Faculty of Agriculture was founded jointly with the Faculty of Natural Resources in 1991. In 2007, the Faculty of Agriculture separated from the Faculty of Natural Resources and commenced its academic teaching and research activities on an independent basis. It is currently one of the major providers of research in agricultural fields in the region. Both training and research are undertaken at the highest profession- al level and a wide range of agriculture based scientific courses are offered to graduate and postgraduate students.

Faculty of Engineering
The Faculty of Engineering is one of the largest and most successful of its kind in Iran. This Faculty commenced its activity as a technical and engineering college in 1994. From its foundation, the faculty has pursued excellence and innovation in education and research. The faculty continues to forge new links with industry and community partners to ensure a continuing real-world focus for both teaching and research. The Faculty of Engineering at present has 7 departments offering 9 undergraduate degree programs and 21 postgraduate degree programs (including 3 PhD programs).

Faculty of Natural Resources
The Faculty of Natural Resources was founded jointly with the Faculty of Agriculture in 1991. In 2007, the Faculty of Natural Resources disbanded from the Faculty of Agriculture and commenced its academic teaching and research activities on an independent basis. Currently, the Faculty of Natural Resources has 6 departments that offer 6 undergraduate programs and 13 Master programs.

Faculty of Art and Architecture
Because of the importance of Art, architecture and planning at na- tional and international levels and the rich history of the arts in western Iran, especially in Kurdistan, the University of Kurdistan launched programs in the aforementioned fields in the early years of its establishment as a university. The University of Kurdistan commenced offering degree programs in Architecture, Urban Plan- ning and Music in 1999, 2006 and 2016, respectively. The faculty currently has three departments: Urban Planning, Architecture, and Music (Iranian). The first two departments were initially part of the Faculty of Engineering but in 2012 became part of the newly established Faculty of Art and Architecture.

Bijar Faculty of Science and Engineering The Bijar Faculty of Science and Engineering was established in Sep- tember 2014 and commenced its pedagogical activities in the fields of Computer Science, Physics and Statistics. As its name indicates, this faculty is located in Bijar, a city in Kurdistan Province.

Enterprises Sponsored by University of Kurdistan at the Technology Units Incubator
Incubators are organizations or institutions that are set up to cultivate and grow small tech businesses so that these precocious neonates of technology can successfully emerge and enter the market. The main objective of the establishment of Technology Units Incubator is to provide a variety of physical, scientific, educational, financial, legal, and advisory services on various aspects of business to individuals and groups that intend to launch a new business in order to develop and commercialize a technology. In this way, not only can they overcome the obstacles to the development and commercialization of the technology they want, but they can also gain grounds, and enter the market. With the necessary support and the provision of basic services, these incubators will play an effective role in increasing the success rate of these units. Accordingly, the incubator provides an administrative and laboratory environment with various support services (scientific-educational, consulting, networking, legal, financial) with minimal cost for technology core and newly established knowledge enterprises. These incuba- tors are usually established alongside a research center or university that has the capacity to provide such services to such enterprises, and they are a part of that research and academic center. After reaching the principled consensus with the Deputy of Technology of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology in 2008, the University of Kurdistan began its official activities in accepting technology units in 2010.

Several policymakers introduce technology parks as part of a thought-provoking strategy for national or regional development. Although each city or country may have different reasons for setting up technology parks, generally the primary goal of building a technology park is to in- crease the number of small and medium-sized knowledge enterprises to operate in an economic environment. These enterprises are referred to as private sector support for economic diversification. The University of Kurdistan’s Science and Technology Park was established in early 2013 (1392). The park’s prospect is to become an essential infrastructure and one of the most attractive working environments in the region for the presence of domestic and foreign knowledge-based units in a five-year period for technology development in Kurdistan province. In this period, the launch of 300 technology units is considered. Park-based units are divided into three categories of technology enterprises, engineering services enterprises, and research and development project units.
The University of Kurdistan cooperates with the Science and Technology Park of Kurdistan in the following areas: 1. Cooperation of the faculty members to evaluate technological projects 2. Cooperation of the faculty members to review the inventions 3. Cooperation of the faculty members to coach and mentor the technology units 4- Cooperation as a consultant in taxation, accounting, market, and commercialization 5. Use of facilities and infrastructure of the University of Kurdistan such as laboratories, workshops, auditoriums, and gymnasiums 6- Holding joint events such as Cultivation, Water, and Tourism Startups 7- Holding training courses recommended by the park 8- Holding technology tours and taking students to visit Science and Technology Parks

Center for Entrepreneurship and Relation with the Industry
The Center for Entrepreneurship at University of Kurdistan was established in 2003 (1382) to implement the Karad Regulations (Entrepre- neurship Development Plan at Universities in Iran) enacted by the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology to promote the development of entrepreneurial culture at University of Kurdistan. The main activities of the center include holding educational and promotional courses requested by students, professors, or governmental and non-governmental organizations, inviting the relevant experts to hold specialized educational and promotional seminars, and forming a link between the entrepreneurs and sponsoring organizations. Since October 2009, the establishment of entrepreneurship cores in faculties has been placed on the agenda of the Center for Entrepreneurship and the fac- ulties of the university to introduce new plans such as the offer of a three-credit entrepreneurship course, sponsoring graduate students’ entrepreneurship theses, and advising and guiding other entrepreneurial ideas with the participation and cooperation of faculty members and students to further enrich the program. Considering the importance of promoting the level of interactions between the University of Kurdistan and scientific and industrial centers, University of Kurdistan has been cooperating with the related organizations and enterprises in the form of a memorandum of understanding. These interactions include defining projects, and holding training courses to better prepare and empower the students.
