Eat In or Carry Out - Pray Pope Francis's Year of Mercy Prayer. In Cristo Rey High School Hall April 3, 2016 Archdiocesan Shrine of The Divine Mercy Baltimore, MD Divine Mercy Sunday During the course of Jesus' revelations to Saint Faustina on the Divine Mercy He asked on numerous occasions that a feast day be dedicated to the Divine Mercy and that this feast be celebrated on the Sunday after Easter. The Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments stated that "throughout the world the Second Sunday of Easter will receive the name Divine Mercy Sun- day, a perennial invitation to the Christian world to face, with confidence in di- vine benevolence, the difficulties and trials that mankind will experience in the years to come." These papal acts rep- resent the highest endorsement that the Church can give to a private revelation, an act of papal infallibility proclaim- ing the certain sanctity of the mystic, and the granting of a universal feast, as requested by Our Lord to St. Faustina. Concerning the Feast of Mercy Jesus said: Whoever approaches the Fountain of Life on this day will be granted complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. (Diary 300) I want the image solemnly blessed on the first Sunday after Easter, and I want it to be venerated publicly so that eve- ry soul may know about it. (Diary 341) This Feast emerged from the very depths of My mercy, and it is confirmed in the vast depths of my tender mercies. (Diary 420) On one occasion, I heard these words: My daughter, tell the whole world about My Inconceivable mercy. I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the fount of My mercy. The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment.* [our emphasis] On that day all the divine floodgates through which grace flow are opened. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet. My mercy is so great that no mind, be it of man or of angel, will be able to fathom it throughout all eternity. Everything that exists has come forth from the very depths of My most tender mercy. Every soul in its relation to Me will contemplate My love and mercy throughout eternity. The Feast of Mercy emerged from My very depths of tenderness. It is My desire that it be solemnly celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. Mankind will not have peace until it turns to the Fount of My Mercy. (Diary 699) Yes, the first Sunday after Easter is the Feast of Mercy, but there must also be deeds of mercy, which are to arise out of love for Me. You are to show mercy to our neighbors always and everywhere. You must not shrink from this or try to absolve yourself from it. (Diary 742) I want to grant complete pardon to the souls that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion on the Feast of My mercy. (Diary 1109) As you can see the Lord's desire for the Feast includes the solemn, public veneration of the Image of Divine Mercy by the Church, as well as personal acts of veneration and mercy. The great promise for the individual soul is that a devotional act of sacramental penance and Communion will obtain for that soul the plenitude of the divine mercy on the Feast. • Spiritual Rest
Spiritual Rest Our Eternal Father is infinite awareness, and in special moments of grace, we are enabled to experience heightened awareness states while infused by His infinite Bliss. —Doug Norkum ANOTHER LUNCHEON On Wednesday, September 9, 2015 around noon I had invited my friend Jack Manion to my home for soup, coffee and a hot pork tenderloin sandwich. In a recent e-mail Jack reflected, “While visiting Doug Norkum at his home when the thought entered my head, whether of my own volition or not I cannot say, to ask Doug, “What happens when a person falls in the spirit?,” and then to let him talk without interruption This I did..” I was not sure how to answer the question as the process is a mystery, as are so many other aspects of our infinite Creator’s gifts. However, first I would try to answer from within my own experience. I have been to several Roman Catholic healing masses at various churches, but mainly at St. Mary’ Cathedral here in Kingston, Ontario. Watching Bill Reason, I learned a technique for catching and lowering people who fell in the Spirit— usually after a priest prayed for them and while gently touched their shoulder or forehead. As a “catcher,” I too would experience the flow of Bliss passing from the priest to the participant much in the form of a “bubble” or infusion of God’s presence. I do remember catching Claire Roeder, now passed on, several times in which she gently floated, much like a very light feather, backwards into my awaiting hands guiding her to the floor.

The wonderful ensuing spiritual experiences inspired me in those early days to immerse myself once again in my Roman Catholic faith. However, the following testimony is about a very humble servant of God named Emma de Guzman, who, through the presence and grace bestowed by the Blessed Virgin Mary, has had many miracles emanate in her presence.

A Chosen One... EMMA – 1 – Front cover by Corey Larocque – 2 – INTRODUCTION In various languages around the world, the name “Emma” means “My Mother.” Before Jesus Christ died on the cross, He gave all humanity His own mother as its own. Today this gift is still appreciated and referred to in all Christian churches. Our Blessed Mother’s role in the Catholic Church is to lead all mankind to her Son Jesus Christ. Down through the ages God has willed certain individuals to carry on the role of bringing people closer to Him. Emma de Guzman Emma (Cajucom) de Guzman was born into a very poor and humble family on December 8, 1949, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. She married and is the proud mother of two sons, Romulo and Marvin, and a daughter Novina (Novie) and several grandchildren. In 1986 she migrated to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, responding to an ad for a live-in nanny. In 1991 she went on pilgrimage to Youngstown, New York with Soledad Gaviola, who would soon play a very important role in her future that God was preparing her for. It was during this pilgrimage that Our Blessed Mother of Fatima appeared to her with a message that would change her life forever. Emma was chosen to carry messages from Jesus and Mary to spread love, peace and joy all over the world. Although the first La Pieta Prayer Group was formed in 1991, my husband Bill and I were not privileged to meet her until 1995 and I will refer to that meeting in the pages to follow.

Fall 2016 Inside General Assembly World Youth Day Divine Renovation New General Superior r. Allan MacDonald, CC was elected as the new General Superior of the Community on September 2, 2016. The vote marked the end of the General F Assembly, which convened in Ogdensburg, New York, on August 30 and wrapped up on the day of the vote. This new General Superior follows in the impressive footsteps of now-Bishop Scott McCaig, CC who, before being appointed to the episcopate on April 8 of this year, was the General Superior of the Companions for 10 years. Now, Fr. Al- lan MacDonald will lead the Companions of the Cross Community for six years. Fr. Allan MacDonald has served in the following capacities: Vocations Director, University Chaplain, and has assisted with the first year Applicancy Program. He has also led many missions and parish retreats. All this makes him a great leadership choice for the Community that has pastors, professors, university and hospital chaplains, and road missionaries within its ranks. Fr. Pierre Ingram, CC, Companion of the Cross Director of Formation and former Executive Council member said, “He has great spiritual wisdom and experience in ministry, and he exemplifies our charism. We are eager to move forward in our common mission and brotherhood under his leadership.” Fr. Allan MacDonald’s appointment comes at a time of great growth for the Community. The past four years have seen two Community members become bishops (the other being Bishop Christian Riesbeck, CC in Ottawa). JAN RUDZEWICZ DEACON THOMAS MARTIN Secretary: LINO POBLETE www.olgcsanleandro.com BLESSED When we think of the word “Beatitude” we think of today’s discourse from Luke’s Gospel, or the more familiar one from Matthew (which begins “Blessed are the poor in spirit . ”). Actually, beati- tudes occur throughout the prophets and Gospels. Today in Jeremiah (with an echo in the psalm) we hear, “Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord” (Jeremiah 17:7). Following his resurrection in John’s Gospel, Christ proclaims, “Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed” (John 20:29). The evangelists placed these sayings throughout the Gospels as short reminders about the characteristics that one will find in a follower of Christ, characteris- tics that will help spread the Good News in this life and lead to eternal blessings in the next. In Latin, the saints are called the Beati, the “Blessed,” for they are the ones who lived the “blessed” life as de- scribed by Jesus throughout the Gospels. How blest are we, when we also strive to make our own days a living beatitude!
