The Bluejays opened the MVC Tournament with an upset win over top-seed Indiana State and went on to defeat Illinois State twice to advance to the title game. Creighton completed the four-game run by besting Southern Illinois, 8-6. At the Los Angeles Regional, the Bluejays dropped their opener to host UCLA (3-0), but rebounded to eliminate San Diego (8-2) and New Mexico (7-2), before falling to the Bruins (13-5).

2011: 45-16, 15-6 MVC - NCAA Creighton moved into TD Ameritrade Park Omaha midway through the 2011 season, leaving behind the friendly confines of the CU Sports Complex where Servais posted a .770 winning percentage.

The 2011 team finished with a 45-16 overall record, claiming the regular season title in the Missouri Valley at 15-6 mark. It marked the first time in school history a Bluejay baseball team won the Servais earning a commemorative bat for his regular-season and tournament titles in the same year. Eric Wordekemper took over as the Bluejays’ pitching coach in the fall of 2016 after spending three seasons as a Wordekemper’s Résumé volunteer and undergraduate assistant. Eric and his wife, Natalie, were married during the summer of 2017. The couple lives in Omaha and welcomed their first child, Tess, in February of 2019.

Collegiate Career • Saint Louis (2009-12) Gandossy’s impact is expected to continue to grow as the Bluejays’ 2020 recruiting class was rated as one of the Top 50 in the nation by College Baseball Newspaper and Baseball America. Connor also played a pivotal role in the recruiting efforts for Saint Louis (2015-17), working to land Perfect Game Top 100 classes in both the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

Gandossy has helped four catchers get drafted by . Gandossy helped Bluejay Michael Emodi earn a spot on the Johnny Bench Watch List and be drafted in 2018 in the 11th round by the Kansas City Royals. In addition Billiken catcher Jake Henson made the Johnny Bench Watch List and was drafted in the 21st round by the Los Angeles Dodgers and Colton Frabasilio was drafted in the 23rd round by the Kansas City Royals in 2015. In total Gandossy has coached 28 players who were drafted by MLB. In addition to the teams’ on the field accomplishments 25 Bluejay players were named to the 2018-2019 BIG EAST All Academic team.

“From the start I was impressed with the energy and enthusiasm Connor brought to campus,” said Creighton head coach Ed Servais. “He has strong contacts throughout the Midwest which is a critical recruiting area for our program.”

A standout catcher and leader for the Billikens from 2009-12, Gandossy appeared in 157 games behind the plate. He caught 49 contests in each of his last two seasons at SLU. During that span, the Billikens won three Atlantic 10 championships, earned one NCAA tournament bid, and broke the school record for wins in 2012 with 41.

Gandossy received a Bachelor of Arts from Saint Louis University in 2012 and expects to earn a Masters degree in Leadership from Creighton in 2020. Connor and his wife, Rachael, were married during the fall of 2019.

Volunteer Assistant Coach Bethel University (2015) • Second Season at Creighton

Paul Weidner joined the Creighton Baseball Weidner’s Résumé • Volunteer Assistant Coach, staff in the fall of 2018 as the Bluejays’ volunteer Creighton (2018-present) assistant coach.

• Assistant Coach, Weidner’s responsibilites include the development Bethel University (2015-18) of outfielders and assisting with Creighton’s hit- Collegiate Career ting program. He also serves as the coordinator of Creighton camps and during games • Bethel University (2011-15) Weidner is the first base coach.

During his first season with the Bluejays, Weidner helped guide Creighton back to the NCAA Tournament, the program’s first postseason berth since 2012.

Weidner’s work helped the Bluejays post an impressive 67 home runs, including 25 from outfielders Parker Upton and Will Robertson. The squad also put up 379 runs in 54 games, better than seven per contest.

Defensively Weidner helped freshman Will Hanafan take over center field flawlessly, not committing an error in 142 chances. As a team the Bluejay outfielders delivered seven assists, including four by Hanafan.

Weidner’s efforts coaching first base helped the Bluejays have just one runner picked off in 2019, the lowest total since head coach Ed Servais took the Bluejay reigns in 2004.

Paul came to Creighton after spending the summer of 2018 working with Robertson and the Cotuit Kettleers in the Cape Cod League. He also served as the assistant coach for Bethel University (St. Paul, Minnesota) from 2015-18, where Weidner played baseball from 2011-15.

Paul and his wife, Olivia, welcomed their first child, Brooks, late in 2019.

Athletic Trainer Coe College (2000) • 13th Season at Creighton

Curtis Self is in his 13th year with Creighton, serving as the athletic trainer for baseball. He is also responsible men’s and women’s cross country, oversees the softball graduate assistant and is the insurance coordinator.

He is a certified athletic trainer and has been a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association since 1998. Self is an approved clinical instructor through CAAHEP as well as CPR and AED certified.

Self was an associate athletic trainer at College of Charleston in Charleston, S.C., from 2002-08. While at Charleston, he was the facil- ity coordinator of the Patriots Point Athletic Training room with sport assignments for the baseball and women’s tennis teams. Prior to his stint at College of Charleston, Self served as an athletic trainer for the Minor League Baseball Club for two seasons. With the Texas Rangers he was responsible for the evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation associated with the rookie classification Gulf Coast Rangers.

Self was a graduate assistant at Western Michigan University where he earned his Master of Arts degree in physical education and recreation with an athletic training emphasis in 2002. He graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in physical education and athletic training in May 2000. While an athletic training student at Coe College, he was also a member of the men’s swimming team.

Originally from Grand Island, Neb., Self and his wife, Kristine, reside in Omaha. The couple have two yellow labs, Gunner and Linus.

Brad Schmidt

Athletic Performance Coach Iowa State (2008) • Ninth Season at Creighton

Brad Schmidt is in his ninth season at Creighton. Schmidt’s role was refined to volleyball, women’s basketball and baseball in the fall of 2014 and he was promoted to the head coach of athletic performance prior to the onset of the 2019-20 athletic year.

Each of Schmidt’s teams claimed the BIG EAST regular-season championship during the 2016-17 academic year and all three squads have reached the NCAA Tournament over the past two years.

A graduate of Iowa State in 2008, Schmidt served as the assistant strength and conditioning coach at South Dakota State for two years before taking the same position at Creighton in January of 2012. During his time with the Jackrabbits, Brad earned his master’s at SDSU in 2010.

Schmidt has worked with a variety of teams, including swimming, track, cross country, soccer and basketball. Schmidt is a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, as well as a certified sports performance coach by USA Weightlifting.

He and his wife, Vanessa, reside in Omaha with their three children.

2018 (Sophomore) • Allbery started every game at first base for the Bluejays, committing just two errors during the season. • He closed the year with a .223 average at the dish, highlighted by 10 multi-hit games. • Jason delivered four multi-hit games in Creighton’s final nine con- tests, including a two-hit, three RBI contest in Creighton’s 5-4 win over Nebraska on May 8th.

2017 (Redshirt Freshman) • An outfielder in high school, Allbery was asked to move to first base when he returned for spring practice, Jason acquitted himself very well with just three errors at first. • Jason appeared in all 49 contests, starting 47 times. He closed the season with a .253 average on 41 hits. • Allbery had nine multi-hit games, led by a four-hit effort against Wichita State on April 26th.

2016 (Freshman) • Jason used his redshirt option during the 2016 season.

2011-15 (Creighton Prep High School) • Allbery graduated from Creighton Prep in the spring of 2015, leading the Junior Jays to the Legion World Series. • During his senior season at Creighton Prep, Allbery hit .343 with 34 hits, 24 runs scored and 22 RBI. He closed the season with 12 extra-base hits, six doubles, two triples and four home runs. • In addition to his prowess at the dish, Allbery was the Junior Jays’ closer, with five saves and a 1.92 ERA. • Allbery earned All-Nebraska First Team honors from the Omaha World-Herald as well as the Lincoln Journal Star. • Allbery hit .423 as a junior with nine doubles, three home runs, 39 runs, 26 walks and 27 RBI, earning All-Nebraska Second Team honors. • Jason was also recognized following the 2013 season with All-Nebraska Honorable Mention by the Omaha World-Herald.

2017-18 (Iowa Western Community College) • Dotzler pitched for the Reivers during the 2017 and 2018 seasons, building a combined record of 11-0. • He went 5-0 during 2018 in 11 appearances, spanning 38.2 innings with a 2.70 ERA and 45 strikeouts. • During his first year at IWCC, Ben went 6-0 in 11 appearances.
