Sophomore Gordon Marshall netted the game-winner from two meters with 34 seconds remaining to put UCLA up by a goal. The Bruins got the stop on the next possession and then ran out the clock to capture the title. The 29 wins tied UCLA’s single-season record (29-5 in 1988) as the Bruins earned their first NCAA championship since 2004. The win against the Trojans improved UCLA’s record this season against USC to 4-1, which equalled its record against the Adam Krikorian-coached squad in 2002. Junior Danny McClintick led all scorers with four goals and was named the tournament’s most ourstanding player. Joining McClintick on the NCAA’s All- Tournament First Team were sophomores Gordon Marshall and Garrett Danner. Seniors Cristiano Mirarchi and Paul Reynolds were named to the second team. Top-seeded UCLA struck first when sophomore Chancellor Ramirez scored from the front court (4:25). Senior Daniel Lenhart then set up redshirt freshman Matt Farmer for a cross-cage score to put the Bruins up 2-0 (1:13) and end the scoring in the opening stanza.

NATIONAL COLLEGIATE MEN’S WATER POLO CHAMPIONSHIPS RECORDS BOOK 2016 Championship 2 History 2 Won-Lost Records In Tournament Play 7 All-Time Results 8 2016 CHAMPIONSHIP HIGHLIGHTS After trailing for three quarters, California overtook USC and won the national championship 11-8 in overtime. The Bears captured their 14th national title and first since 2007. Over time, those words will sink in for the 16 Golden Bears that rallied for an 11-8 overtime victory over No. 1-ranked USC on Saturday at Spieker Aquatics Complex. The two teams had slightly different roads to get here. The Bears, after a 20-4 season, took down Pomona-Pitzer 16-6 in the first play-in game of the NCAA tournament, then handed UCLA its third loss of the year in a 9-8 OT win over the Bruins. Trailing 5-3 entering the fourth period, goals by Conor Neumann and Luca Cupido tied the score and, though the teams traded blows from then until the end of the period, Cal hung on to remain tied at 7 entering extra time. No. 3 Cal (23-4) struck first in the first overtime. A 5-meter penalty shot by Johnny Hooper got the Bears started, and after a goal by USC’s James Walters tied the score at 8, senior Farrel South found the slightest space between USC goalkeeper McQuin Baron and the post, firing it past the Olympian for a 9-8 lead with one minute left in overtime. Perhaps the biggest blow came just before the horn sounded to end the first overtime period.

2020 U.S. Olympic Team - Athletes by Sport (Name, Hometown city and state, Event) In alignment with previous games, the roster of 613 athletes does not reflect athletes currently registered for the Games as alternates. In effort to provide added flexibility to nations competing in the Tokyo 2020 field hockey, team handball, rugby, soccer and water polo competitions, the IOC and respective International Federations announced new policies for athletes registered as alternates in their sport. For the Tokyo Games, accredited alternate athletes in these sports are immediately eligible to be called into game day rosters and, in that case, will become Olympians. The USOPC, in compiling the roster of the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team, followed these guidelines and will update the roster accordingly. Existing athlete replacement protocols remain in place for the remaining sports on the Olympic program. *Alternate athletes who are eligible to be called into game day rosters.
