Flouton-Barnes Cinematic Sessions: The Ethics of Therapy in Hollywood Film ABSTRACT This qualitative study was undertaken to examine how the therapeutic process is depicted in modern films produced for American audiences over the past two decades, with special reference to how the conventions of ethics in therapy are treated, and to discuss the implications of these findings for clinical practice. A sample of 50 films that featured at least one scene of individual therapy was identified and surveyed using a coding scheme developed for this project. The domains of interest included: clinician, client, and session demographics, and adherence to ethical standards as portrayed in therapy scenes. This study was undertaken to contribute a more recent voice to the growing clinical discussion about the representation of mental health practitioners in film and to call attention to the specific strengths and shortcomings therein. The findings are discussed from a social learning theory framework and the implications for social work practice are discussed. -

Greenberg (2011)
Greenberg (2011) “You like me so much more than you think you do.” Major Credits: Director: Noah Baumbach Screenplay: Noah Baumbach, from a story by Baumbach and Jennifer Jason Leigh Cinematography: Harris Savides Music: James Murphy Principal Cast: Ben Stiller (Roger Greenberg), Greta Gerwig (Florence), Rhys Ifans (Ivan), Jennifer Jason Leigh (Beth) Production Background: Baumbach, the son of two prominent New York writers whose divorce he chronicled in his earlier feature The Squid and the Whale (2005), co-wrote the screenplay with his then-wife, Jennifer Jason Leigh, who plays the role of Greenberg’s former girlfriend. His friend and sometime collaborator (they wrote The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou together), Wes Anderson, co-produced Greenberg with Leigh. Most of Baumbach’s films to date deal with characters who are disappointed in their lives, which do not conform to their ideal conceptions of themselves. At whatever age—a father in his 40s, his pretentious teenage son (The Squid and the Whale), a college graduate in her late twenties (Frances Ha, 2012)—they struggle to act like grownups. The casting of Greta Gerwig developed into an enduring romantic and creative partnership: Gerwig co-wrote and starred in his next two films, Frances Ha and Mistress America (2015). You can read about Baumbach and Gerwig in Ian Parker’s fine article published in New Yorker, April 29, 2013. Cinematic Qualities: 1. Screenplay: Like the work of one of his favorite filmmakers, Woody Allen, Baumbach’s dramedy combines literate observation (“All the men dress up as children and the children dress as superheroes”) and bitter commentary (“Life is wasted on… people”) with poignant confession (“It’s huge to finally embrace the life you never planned on”). -

Season 2, Ep: 3 – Rajiv Joseph: “Creative Cauldron” Air Date: 4/27/21 Featuring: Rajiv Joseph and Caroline Neff. With Cliff Chamberlain, James Vincent Meredith, Caroline Neff, Karen Rodriguez and Michelle Medvin. Rajiv Joseph: But I guess I don't ever think about—that I'm throwing them out. I don't ever think that I'm killing anything. Audrey Francis: From Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago, Illinois. Rajiv Joseph: I don't think that any work is wasted. I think that all work is cumulative. Audrey Francis: This is Half Hour. Cliff Chamberlain: Welcome back, listeners, to Half Hour. This week we've got me Cliff Chamberlain— James Vincent Meredith: James Vincent Meredith— Karen Rodriguez: Karen Rodriguez— Caroline Neff: And me, Caroline Neff. Cliff Chamberlain: And Caroline, this week we've got a conversation with you and our esteemed playwright, ensemble member, Rajiv Joseph. I don't think I've ever met Rajiv in the real world. I've talked him through email. I'm curious, have you ever met Rajiv before this conversation? Caroline Neff: I have. And, you know, I feel like his presence always feels a little bit like Brigadoon. It’s like—it's just sort of there, like, when you're least expecting it. So, I actually—I think the first time that I met him was… I don't remember if it was when I saw Guards at the Taj at the Atlantic, if I met him that night. But I'm trying to think if I've ever actually met him within the confines of the Steppenwolf complex. -
Warten Auf Das Neue Album

CAST ELSIE FISHER played a supporting role in Disney’s feature filmMcFarland, USA. She voiced the lead role of “Agnes” in the animated features Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2. Fisher has also played roles on television shows such as “Raising Hope,” “Mike & Molly,” and “Medium.” She previously played a supporting role in the indie feature Dirty Girl. -

Winter 2019 Bisexuality & Disability Bi Women Quarterly Vol. 37 No. 1 A publication of the Boston Bisexual Women’s Network, for women everywhere Pap Smears & Paint Parties: A Journey Toward Embracing My Bisexuality By Sara Krahel This year I finally came out to my best friend as bisexual. But first, I have to tell you about my first pap smear. You see, I have cerebral palsy and my legs often spasm when I get uncomfortable or nervous. I was certainly nervous going into the appointment because I knew there would be issues with those infamous stirrups. It was the day that changed my life. Let me set the scene: it is the day of the fated pap smear. I had hooked my arms around one leg in a death grip, a nurse was holding the other, as the gynecologist was performing the procedure as fast as she could. In this circumstance it was not just my legs that seized up, it was my entire lower body, including my vagina. I was visibly sweating and red in the face, trying to hold onto my twitching right leg. The doctor noticed me struggling and told me to “relax and breathe.” I rolled my eyes, knowing that it wouldn’t magically make my entire body stop spazzing, but I took a deep breath to be a good sport. It did not help with the spasms. Although the doctor and nurse were medical professionals, they didn’t get that I couldn’t relax in this compromising position. Can anyone truly relax with strangers holding on to their legs and looking at their genitals? No.
