METICULOUSLY REFINED. With sculpted character lines, the all-new ES pairs daring exterior design with innovative engineering for a dynamic yet refined ride. Boasting an incredibly low center of gravity and a forward-leaning stance, the ES doesn’t just make you feel more connected to the road, it helps you hear less of it. Building on the sound-dampening capabilities of the flagship LS, the ES features redesigned components that minimize engine vibration and significantly reduce road noise, allowing you to focus on what matters most—the drive. ES shown in Nightfall Mica // Options shown 16 17 DESIGN Exclusively available on the ES F SPORT, the Hadori Aluminum trim is inspired by a traditional Japanese sword–making technique. Our Lexus takumi master craftsmen exhaustively researched the centuries-old process, and then developed a special polishing technique to mimic the design. The result? A one-of- a-kind interior trim with exceptional depth and luster. Complementing this ornamentation, intricate hand- stitching on the dash provides a unique tactile quality and dimension that elevate the interior even further. CRAFTSMANSHIP BORN FROM IMAGINATION Every curve, innovation and feeling is a product of mastery. From the hand-stitching on the dash to the available Hadori Aluminum accents and three-dimensional quilted seat design, this is the epitome of unconventional craftsmanship. The ES features exquisite Linear Espresso and Linear Dark Mocha wood trims, multilayered works of art inspired by a Lexus-exclusive design that requires 67 manufacturing steps over 38 days. It also inherits the precision-crafted steering wheel found in the uncompromising LS. By measuring the distribution of palm pressure on multiple points of the wheel during countless hours of test-driving, its unique shape was achieved for the most natural grip regardless of hand position. And pairing optimal performance with optimal comfort, this unrivaled wheel offers heating around its entire circumference. Options shown 18 19 DESIGN LUXU RY, REIMAGINED Experience where refinement and innovation combine in a driver- centric cockpit and the largest available display in its class. 8 With contemporary styling and cutting-edge technology, the ES offers a refreshing point of view on modern luxury. Discover interior comforts like 10-way adjustable power seats with available heating and ventilation, designed to envelop you and connect you to the road. Unlike conventional ventilated seats, these pull air directly from the climate-control system to more effectively and efficiently cool you. These refined luxuries are complemented by numerous expressions of modern style and technology, from an available 12.3-inch split- screen multimedia display to available ambient lighting that accentuates the sculpted lines throughout the cabin. ESh shown with Chateau semi-aniline leather and Linear Dark Mocha wood interior trim // Options shown 20 21 The ultimate expression of the ES, the ESh builds upon the bold exterior styling with a sleek, concealed exhaust. Providing an incredibly refined ride, the all-new platform and Lexus-first Hybrid-Acoustics™ offer unprecedented sound-dampening measures such as high-precision noise-canceling technology to ensure the quietest drive possible. And a Super Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle certification means it produces fewer smog-forming emissions than conventionally powered vehicles.12 ESh shown in Nebula Gray Pearl // Options shown 22 23 PERFORMANCE EXHILARATING PERFORMANCE With three all-new models, including a 302-horsepower V6 engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission, this is the most engaging ES ever. Craftsmanship isn’t only about creating the finest materials—it’s about creating the most visceral experience behind the wheel. After years of research and exhaustive testing, one result is a robust 302-horsepower, 3.5-liter direct injection V6 engine. Further amplifying its breathtaking performance, an all-new eight-speed automatic transmission delivers intuitive responsiveness and seamless acceleration. The new ES line also includes a more aggressive F SPORT model and an even more powerful ESh. And for the first time in the ES, paddle shifters are featured on all three models, putting the thrill of lightning-fast gear changes at your fingertips. ES shown in Nebula Gray Pearl // Options shown 24 25 PERFORMANCE LOWER CENTER OF GRAVITY. HIGHER PERFORMANCE. With an all-new platform and available high-performance Adaptive Variable Suspension, the all-new ES delivers unprecedented handling. And with paddle shifters that deliver driving dynamics similar to the ES 350, it brings you closer to the road than ever before. Pairing powerful performance with a combined 44-MPG estimate,3 the ESh isn’t just the most fuel-efficient Lexus ever—it’s the most fuel-efficient among all non-plug-in luxury vehicles,2 period. • Minivan Motoring, Or Why I Miss That Old Car Smell by Sam Patteson
e-Vision volume eight 1 Minivan Motoring, or Why I Miss that Old Car Smell by Sam Patteson It is very difficult to look “cool” while driving a minivan, and I never bothered to try. “Cool” is overrated anyway. What’s not overrated is the urban camouflage a minivan affords. “No one suspects the soccer mom,” Joe deadpanned as he rolled us a joint on the open door of the glove box. I had to agree as I pulled the van into the Shell station to gas up before our long trip to Charleston. I let the tank fill while I checked the various reservoir levels for brake fluid, antifreeze, power steering, and the like. As usual, I needed a quart of oil. Rednecks on last minute beer runs cruised through the parking lot as I returned from the store. Joe blasted Frampton Comes Alive through the open windows. Pete’s guitar had something to say, and the van was rocking. I poured the oil into the engine, slammed the hood home, and slid into the driver’s seat. I turned to quiz Joe on last minute preparations. We had planned this trip for months, and I didn’t want to forget anything. “Suitcases?” He turned to look back at the empty rear of the van. We had removed the back seats in favor of a twin-sized bed. Our suitcases nestled securely between the bed and the back door. “Check.” Pillows and blankets? “Check.” Wallet, money, keys? “Check.” Er… extras? “Check!” Joe coughed and handed me the joint. I took a deep drag and handed it back.

  • Most Owners Still in Love with Their Three-Year-Old Vehicles, J.D. Power Finds Vehicle Dependability Significantly Improves
Most Owners Still in Love with Their Three-Year-Old Vehicles, J.D. Power Finds Vehicle Dependability Significantly Improves for Most Automakers COSTA MESA, Calif.: 14 Feb. 2018 — On a day when people traditionally demonstrate their love for another person, consumers’ affection for their three-year-old vehicles is equally apparent in the J.D. Power 2018 U.S. Vehicle Dependability StudySM (VDS), released today. Overall vehicle dependability improves 9% from 2017, the first time the industry score has improved since 2013. The study, now in its 29th year, measures the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100) during the past 12 months by original owners of 2015 model-year vehicles. A lower score reflects higher quality, and the study covers 177 specific problems grouped into eight major vehicle categories. The overall industry average improves by 14 PP100 to 142 PP100 from 156 PP100 in 2017. “For the most part, automotive manufacturers continue to meet consumers’ vehicle dependability expectations,” said Dave Sargent, Vice President, Global Automotive at J.D. Power. “A 9% improvement is extremely impressive, and vehicle dependability is, without question, at its best level ever. For people looking for a new or used model, now is a good time to find that special vehicle.” Following are some of the study’s key findings: • In-vehicle technology continues to be most problematic: Audio/Communications/ Entertainment/Navigation (ACEN) remains a troublesome category for vehicle owners, receiving the highest frequency of complaints. The two most common problems relate to built-in voice recognition (9.3 PP100) and built-in Bluetooth connectivity (7.7 PP100).
