The idea that “all men are created equal” with a right to “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” established the foundations of self-government and personalT liberty in America. Jefferson’s eloquent words of 1776 continue to inspire people of all ages around the world. Today, Jefferson’s home remains a touchstone for all who seek to explore the enduring meaning of what it means to be an American and a global citizen.
