NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - LMU hit five home runs, including two by sophomore Angelo Songco, en route to splitting a Saturday doubleheader against Cal State Northridge in Northridge, Calif. at CSUN's Matador Field. LMU took game one by a of 9-4 before falling in game two, 10-3. In the four-game that was played over the past week, LMU defeated CSUN, 3-1.

Songco, Ryan Wheeler and T.J. Bernardy each collected two hits, including a home apiece, to lead the Lion offense in game one. Seniors Michael Glomb and A.J. LaMonda, along with junior Brett Mendoza, also contributed two hits in the victory. With the two hits, Glomb extended his hitting streak to five straight games, while Will Dugoni and Andy Preston each collected one hit to extend their streaks to four and nine games, respectively.

Junior Mike Kenney got the start and the victory in game one, tossing six and two-thirds and allowing four runs on nine hits and three walks while striking three batters to improve to 4-1. Fellow junior, Ernie Cho, was all the relief the Lions needed in the game, pitching the final two and a third scoreless frames and allowing only one hit and two walks while collecting three .

Richard Cates and Jowen-James Murray-Thornton paced the Matador offense, finishing with two hits apiece. Murray-Thornton produced the first extra-base hits of his season, collecting a and a in the game. John Parham, the CSUN in game one, belted the first of his two home runs on the day in the loss. Right-hander Phil Hann was tagged with the loss after pitching five and two-thirds innings and allowing seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits and one walk. Peter Mendez and Bryce Schoening each allowed a run over the next two and a third innings of relief before Paul Tremlin retired the side in the ninth.

LMU got on the board first, plating two runs in the top of the second. Wheeler got things started when he was hit by a with one out. Two batters later, Bernardy blasted his first career over the wall in right field to put the Lions up 2-0.

CSUN answered back for a run of its own in the bottom of the frame, scoring a run on two hits. A one-out single by Ryan Pineda set the table in the . Back-to-back walks loaded the bases before Justin DeMarco singled through the left side to drive in the run.

Parham erased the slim one-run LMU advantage with one swing of the bat in the third. With two out in the frame, the Matador backstop connected on a Kenney pitch and drove it over the wall in right centerfield to knot the game at two runs apiece.

LMU went on a scoring spree over the next five innings, plating three runs in the fourth and single runs in the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth. Mendoza reached with a leadoff single in the fourth before Wheeler homered to right field to plate the first two runs in the inning. Glomb followed with a double to get things rolling once again, moving to third on a groundout to the right side of the . Dugoni did not try to do too much in the situation, grounding a ball to the shortstop and capping the three-run inning.

With two out in the fifth, Songco singled to right centerfield and moved to second when C.J. Belanger bobbled the ball in the alley. A hit-by-pitch later, Wheeler came up clutch once again for the Lions, singling home Songco. Bernardy scored the lone run in the sixth, coming around to score on a LaMonda single and an on the shortstop, DeMarco.

Mendoza started the seventh inning with a single before Ollie Enos replaced him on the basepaths. A and a groundout moved Enos to third before Glomb collected the RBI with a single into centerfield. Songco managed to the all the damage by himself in the eighth, blasting a two-out homer over the wall in right field to put the Lions ahead 9-4.

LMU got offense early in game one, with Preston collecting his third home run of the year in the top of the first to extend his hitting streak to 10 straight games. Kyle Spraker, who had his five-game hitting streak snapped in game one, was back to his old ways in game two, finishing 3-for-5 with a RBI. LaMonda batted 2-for-4 in the loss, while Songco connected on his second home run of the day in the eighth. Glomb and Dugoni also extended their streaks to six and five games, respectively.

Freshman Martin Viramontes was saddled with the loss after pitching four and a third innings, allowing seven runs (six earned) on nine hits and one walk while striking out three batters to fall to 2-2. Senior right-hander Nate Keadle tossed the next two and a third innings, giving up a run on six hits and punching out three batters. Freshman Brett Williams was next out of the Lion , contributing two thirds of an inning and allowing two runs on four hits before Greg Meyers retired the final Matador hitter via .

Cates finished 4-for-5 with two runs scored to lead the Matador offense to the victory. Billy Swanson batted 3-for-4 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored, while Parham went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, his second home run of the day, and two RBI. Right- hander Davin Tate got the start, but lasted only one inning after being struck with a to end the first inning. P.J. Rousey got the victory and improved to 1-0 after pitching three scoreless innings and allowing only one hit. Edwin Quirarte tossed the next four innings of relief, allowing two runs and striking out a batter before Billy Ott, Tuesday's starter for CSUN, recorded the final scoreless frame to seal the victory.

Following the Preston home run in the top of the first, CSUN plated a run of its own in the bottom of the frame. Drew Muren tripled with one out in the frame before coming home on a Parham single just a few pitches later.

The Matadors scored one more run in the second to take a lead they would not relinquish. Swanson singled before moving to third on a sacrifice and an error off the bat of DeMarco. TS Reed followed with a RBI groundout on the ensuing play to force in the run.

After a third Matador run scored in the fourth, LMU scored its second run of the game in the top of the fifth. A two-out single by Dugoni sparked the rally before LaMonda was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second. Spraker followed with a two-out RBI single to plate Dugoni and push the score to 3-2.

The Matadors refused to surrender momentum, scoring four times in the fifth to take a 7-2 lead. Parham homered to start the inning before Swanson collected a two-RBI single later in the frame. CSUN would add another run in the seventh, with Swanson once again collecting the RBI, this time via .

Songco made it back-to-back games with a homer when he went opposite field in the eighth, sending a pitch over the wall in left centerfield to plate the final LMU run in the game. The Matadors would score twice more in the bottom of the eighth before Ott retired the side in the ninth to hand LMU the loss.

The Lions return to action on Monday when they host USC in the first of two games between the two teams on Monday and Tuesday. Monday's game is slated for a 3 p.m. start at Page Stadium, while Tuesday's game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at USC's Dedeaux Field.
