Typically, administrative rules are those dealing with preparation for the contest. The conduct rules are those that have to do directly with the playing of the contest. Some administrative rules (as indicated) may be altered by the mutual consent of the competing institutions. Others (as indicated) are unalterable. No conduct rule may be changed by mutual consent. All NCAA member institutions hosting varsity games are required to conduct their intercollegiate contests according to these rules. NCAA member institutions playing games at nonmember institutions may play by the rules of the host school. In the NCAA Baseball Rules, the administrative rules that may be altered by mutual consent of the competing institutions are: Rule 1: Sections 2-b, 3-d, 4, 5, 7, 15, 16. Rule 3: Sections 4, 5. Rule 4: Sections 5, 8. Rule 5: Section 9. The administrative rules that may not be altered are: Rule 1: Sections 3-a, 3-b, 3-c, 6, 8, 9. Rule 3: Sections 1, 2, 3, 6-a, 6-b. Rule 4: Sections 2, 3, 4. Rule 10: Sections 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30. All of the other rules are conduct rules and may not be altered. THE EFFECTIVENESS OF TEACHING METHODS IN STATISTICS 3 Abstract This study explored the impact of instructional style in the teaching of introductory statistics on students’ attitudes towards statistics and on students’ academic outcomes in statistics courses. Four university statistics instructors were surveyed to identify their instructional style. In addition, their students’ (� = 313) mean course scores and mean scores on the Learning Outcomes for Statistical Methods instrument were analyzed. Based on an independent measure of learning outcomes for students, the data indicate instructional styles that are more inquiry- based may be more effective overall for student achievement on the Learning Outcomes for Statistical Methods instrument. There was a significant decrease found between pre- and post- survey SATS-36 means for the students’ Value, Interest, and Effort component scores.

These cases will cover most rules and situations where the playing rules alone do not explain every situation that may occur in a game. Through game situations, the case book will explain situational outcomes and further explain the interpretation of the playing rules, along with reasoning where required, rather than make the actual rule book more difficult and cumbersome. The Official Rules of Softball were adopted by the World Baseball and Softball Congress - WBSC softball division at the 2017 Rules Congress and endorsed by Softball Australia for the 2018 and following seasons, the Case Plays contained in this document relate to those rules. Carolyn Taylor, MSc Sport Biomechanics Laboratory Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management University of Manitoba Softball Pitching Technique Softball pitching is the most important skill in the game of softball, as the pitcher can dominate as no other player is able to do. Softball is usually a low scoring game in which only one or two runs are scored during the entire game, often due to the dominance of a highly skilled pitcher. Pitchers require several years to perfect their technique and gain control over the speed and direction of their pitches. Softball pitchers use an underhand motion that is not as stressful to the shoulder joint as the overhand pitch used in baseball. Softball pitchers can often pitch several games in one day, and often have an extended career of many years due to the lower stress levels on the shoulder joint. A softball pitcher may pitch as many as six 7-inning games during a weekend tournament; and often the best pitcher on a college team pitches most, if not all of the games each season (Werner, Guido et al. 2005). This may result in approximately 1200-1500 pitches being thrown in a 3-day period for a windmill pitcher, as compared to 100-150 for a baseball pitcher (Werner, Guido et al. 2005). The softball pitch is a relatively simple motion, consisting of a step forward from the mound onto the foot on the non pitching arm side, weight shift onto this foot, and rotation of the shoulders and trunk to a position facing the batter.

    THE RULES OF SCORING 2011 OFFICIAL BASEBALL RULES WITH CHANGES FROM LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL’S “WHAT’S THE SCORE” PUBLICATION INTRODUCTION These “Rules of Scoring” are for the use of those managers and coaches who want to score a Juvenile or Minor League game or wish to know how to correctly score a play or a time at bat during a Juvenile or Minor League game. These “Rules of Scoring” address the recording of individual and team actions, runs batted in, base hits and determining their value, stolen bases and caught stealing, sacrifices, put outs and assists, when to charge or not charge a fielder with an error, wild pitches and passed balls, bases on balls and strikeouts, earned runs, and the winning and losing pitcher. Unlike the Official Baseball Rules used by professional baseball and many amateur leagues, the Little League Playing Rules do not address The Rules of Scoring. However, the Little League Rules of Scoring are similar to the scoring rules used in professional baseball found in Rule 10 of the Official Baseball Rules. Consequently, Rule 10 of the Official Baseball Rules is used as the basis for these Rules of Scoring. However, there are differences (e.g., when to charge or not charge a fielder with an error, runs batted in, winning and losing pitcher). These differences are based on Little League Baseball’s “What’s the Score” booklet. Those additional rules and those modified rules from the “What’s the Score” booklet are in italics. The “What’s the Score” booklet assigns the Official Scorer certain duties under Little League Regulation VI concerning pitching limits which have not implemented by the IAB (see Juvenile League Rule 12.08.08).

    Ground Rules for the Baptist Village Baseball Field 1. The field has gates in the fence. There may also be one or more holes in the fence. Should a batted ball roll under a gate or through a hole in the fence and out of play, the fielder shall raise his hands to signal to the umpire that the ball has gone out of play. The umpire, upon confirming that the ball has gone out of play will call the ball dead and award the batter two bases. Runners will be awarded two bases according to the Official Baseball Rules, Rule 7.05(f). If a thrown ball goes under a gate and out of play, the ball will be dead and the umpire will award two bases according to the Official Baseball Rules, Rule 7.05 (g). 2. All parts of the outfield fencing are “in play” including the high “backstop” fencing in the right and left field corners of the outfield as well as any metal supports for the backstops. Should a ball hit one of the support beams and rebound back into the field, the ball will be live and in play. To hit a home run under the Official Baseball Rules, Rule 6.09 (d), the ball must go over the fence regardless of its height in a specific section or whether the fence has attached support beams. The judgment of the umpire will be final. 3. There is a tree in right-center field that is partly over fair territory. If the batted ball hits the trunk of the tree on the fly and rebounds into the field, it will be a dead ball and the batter and all runners will be awarded home base.
