The Bobcats’ senior Sept.6 Virginia Egusquiza, RID Sept. 12 Michelle Lewthwaite, RMU defender provided all of the team’s scoring in a 3-2 win over Lehigh by netting the first hat trick of her career. She scored the last of the three goals in rather dramatic fashion, driving home a shot from the top of the circle to break a 2-2 tie as time expired. Cunniff followed up her career day against Lehigh by notching three more points in a 4-3 win over Harvard. The Walpole, Massachusetts product was heavily responsible for the Bobcats jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first 25 minutes against the Crimson. Cunniff opened the game’s scoring by NEC Rookie of the Week blasting a shot from the right side of the circle, off a corner play, past Harvard’s keeper 4:44 into the contest. NEC Rookie of the Week ERIN McKENZIE, ROBERT MORRIS Fr., GK, 5-9, Lismore, Australia Robert Morris won three games last week to surpass its win total from the entire 2010 season, and McKenzie was protecting the cage in all three of triumphs. McKenzie rebounded from a 6-0 loss to Lock Haven last Monday by posting three consecutive victories over the weekend, two of which were shutouts. The 5-foot-9 freshman keeper started her run against No. 15 Ohio, making eight saves to blank the Bobcats for more than 73 minutes. She earned the victory when fellow Aussie, and last week’s NEC Rookie of the Week, Michelle NEC PRESEASON POLL Lewthwaite broke a scoreless tie 3:01 into overtime to pull off the upset. WWW.NORTHEASTCONFERENCE.ORG AROUND THE LEAGUE She Did It Again Michelle Lewthwaite (Macarthur, Australia) came through in the clutch for the second straight week. This time, Robert Morris’ rookie defender did it on a national stage against No. 15 Ohio (Sep. 16). The Aussie rookie broke a scoreless deadlock with the Bobcats 3:01 into overtime by blasting home a shot from the top of the circle. Back on September 11, she scored a last-second equal- izer and an overtime game-winner to lift the Colonials over Colgate. Powered by Aussies Robert Morris has scored 14 goals in nine games thus far this season, and seven of them have come off the sticks of Australian-born players. Pennsylvania Chantele Crow (Dauphin, PA/Central Dauphin) leads the team with four tallies, but three Aussies, all of whom are freshmen, directly follow her lead. Michelle Lewthwaite (Macarthur, Australia) has rattled the cage three times this season. Meanwhile, Taleah Scott (Crookwell, Australia) and Jamie Hartley (Tamworth, Australia) have two tallies apiece, but the former leads the team with 11 total points. Thanks to a strong veteran presence coupled with the young Aussie influence, Robert Morris is on pace for a record season. With five victories to their credit, the Colonials have already surpassed their win total (4) for all of the 2010 season and have matched the program’s single-season record for wins which was set in 2008. Becca Main’s Bobcats Are Roaring Quinnipiac won both of its games last week, edging both Patriot League member Lehigh and Ivy League foe Harvard on the QU Field Hockey Turf. The Bobcats, who are 4-0 at home, have won five of the first seven games of the 2011 season. Their only setbacks came on the road against nationally-ranked opponents – No. 6 Penn State and No. 14 Boston College.
