    AJUDHYA NATH KHOSLA Elected Fellow 1951 "An eminent engineer, an able administrator and a generous human being" will be the epithets by which AJUDHYA NATH KHOSLAwill be known to the posterity in India. Belonging to a generation of Indians, born when the country was under foreign domination, Dr Xhosla was proud to be an Indian and had great confidence in the capabilities of Indian engineers. There is no doubt that he had few equals to match his qualities, achievements and abilities. EARLYLIFE AND EDUCATION Ajudhya Nath Khosla was born in Jullunder City in the Punjab on December 11, 1892. He had his early education at the Government High School and later at the Anglo-Sanskrit H~ghSchool, Jullunder, from which he passed his Matric exami- nation in 1908. He had his college education at the DAV College, Lahore, from where he graduated in Arts (Hons) in 1912 securing the first position in the University ' and the highest marks in mathematics. Young Khosla joined the Thomson College of Civil Engineering, Roorkee in October 1913 and graduated with honours. Soon after passing out from the Engineering College, in July 1916, he joined the Punjab Public Works Department (Irrigation Branch). It is interesting to note that his first assignment was to investigate and survey connected with Bhakra Dam Project, a major challenge faced and overcame by him with great distinction in later life. The dam, one of the highest in the world, stands on the same axis as he had proposed in 1917 as an apprentice engineer. From July 1918 to March 1920, during the First World War, he was with the Mesopotamia Expeditionary Force in Iraq as a Commissioned Officer, when he made his first original contribution to engineering by designing Khosla Disc for precision levelling across rivers and wide valleys.

At the onset of World War II in 1939, by the efforts of Arcot Ramaswamy Mudaliar, a member Board of Scientific and Industrial Research(BSIR) was created on 1 April 1940 for a period of two years. Mudaliar became the chair of the board. It was at this point that Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar was appointed as the Director. Major achievements of BSIR included development of the techniques for the purification of Balochistan sulphur anti-gas cloth manufacture, vegetable oil blends as fuel and lubricants, plastic packing cases for army boots and ammunition, dyes for uniforms and the preparation of vitamins, and the invention of a pyrethrum emulsifier and cream. Bhatnagar persuaded the government to set up an Industrial Research Utilisation Committee (IRUC) in early 1941 for further investment into industrial research. The constitution of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) as an autonomous body was prepared under Mudaliar and Bhatnagar which came into operation on 26 September 1942.

The emblem of a snake eating its own tail was commonly used in the iconography of Georgian and Victorian cemeteries which denotes the circle of life and death. A wider use of the expression was taken up by the medical profession, Contents being used to describe conditions where one symptom affects another and the health of the patient steadily deteriorates. One of the major reasons is antibiotic resistance. The volume of antibiotic prescribed is the major factor in increasing rates of bacterial resistance rather than compliance with antibiotics. Then, he had joined CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Goa as a Scientist and worked there until 2017 for carrying marine geophysical research of the Indian Ocean. In addition, he has also served the positions of a Professor, Dean and Senator in Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) during 2010-17. Prof. K.S. Krishna obtained his B.Sc, M.Sc(Tech) in Geophysics and PhD in Marine Geophysics from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. While working at CSIR - National Institute of Oceanography, Prof. K.S. The College was taken over by the then government in 1854 and renamed Presidency College. Calcutta University was set up in 1857 as a merely examining body.
