Summer 2020 ONE Local News from the One Trafford Partnership

Help us recycle right. It’s #GotToBeABottle!

Recycle for Greater are working in partnership with One Trafford to help residents recycle the right plastic in the right bin. We want to make recycling at home easier for you. Throughout September we are reminding residents that the only plastic you can put in your black bin is plastic bottles. This includes drinks, shampoo, trigger spray, cleaning product and plastic milk bottles. All other plastic should go into your general waste. In your black bin you can also recycle glass bottles and jars, food and drinks cans, aerosol RECYCLING IT’S GOT cans and foil. To find out more about what you can and TO BE A cannot recycle, visit www.trafford.gov.uk/blackbin. PLASTIC? BOTTLE

Trafford’s average recycling rate from April to June 2020 is 54%! That’s 8.9% above the national average for .

To help you get it right every time, in September we will be putting a sticker on all black bins and delivering a leaflet to households which explains why we only want plastic bottles in the black bin and not pots, tubs or trays. Getting recycling right is important, if it’s plastic it’s #GotToBeABottle! We know that most people put other types of plastic in the black bin because they want to recycle more, or they think we can take out the wrong things. Once we have collected around 10 tonnes of mixed recycling in one bin lorry it’s not possible to take out all of the wrong plastic items. This can cause a whole lorry load to go to waste. In , we only collect bottles because we can guarantee they are recycled. If everyone put one wrong thing in their mixed recycling bin, it becomes a big problem. One Trafford has secured a £336k emergency active travel grant from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA). This funding will be used to improve cycling and walking options for residents and commuters across the borough.

The team have been working rapidly alongside GMCA and TfGM to decide on locations as part of the first phase of the delivery plan, which are planned to be delivered by the end of September 2020. A range of trials have already been put in place to test the concepts of the temporary measures and works will now expand at specific locations identified by the council and the project team at One Trafford.
