The types of care at the community hospitals include medical, nursing and rehabilitation care. During your stay at the Community Hospital, the healthcare staff will work with you to assist you in regaining certain levels of your physical functions, so that you can return home faster and resume your daily activities as much as possible. The healthcare staff in the Community Hospitals usually work in teams and they include doctors, nurses, rehabilitation therapists, medical social workers, and pharmacists, amongst others. They are well-trained to care for older adults, as well as patients who require rehabilitation for functional recovery, and continuation of intermediate level medical and nursing care.     11 August 2018 Media Release Embargoed till 11 Aug 2018, 12pm SENGKANG GENERAL AND COMMUNITY HOSPITALS OPEN THEIR DOORS TO SERVE THE NORTHEAST COMMUNITY Sengkang General Hospital (SKH) will open progressively from 18 August 2018, and Sengkang Community Hospital (SKCH) from 28 August 2018. The SKH Campus will offer a comprehensive suite of specialist care, inpatient and rehabilitation services, as well as Accident & Emergency services. Its opening will enhance access to healthcare services, particularly for those staying in the Northeast region of Singapore. When fully opened, the SKH Campus will expand the national healthcare capacity by a total of 1,400 beds. The integration of SKH (1,000 beds) and SKCH (400 beds) within a single campus allows patients to look forward to a ‘one care plan, one patient experience’, with seamless transition of care from initial diagnosis and treatment, to rehabilitative care. “We have been building up over the last 6 years to get our entire healthcare team, the infrastructure and facilities ready to be a hospital for the community. The country has one of the highest (healthy) life expectancies in the world, but is also ageing rapidly. In 2030, the percentage of the population above 65 years old will have doubled. Together with an increasing burden of non- communicable (chronic) diseases, this creates a shift and sharp increase in health demands, putting pressure on Singapore’s health system. The ‘3 Beyonds-Policy’ has been designed by the Ministry of Health of Singapore to keep healthcare both good and affordable into the future. It focuses on improved prevention (Beyond Healthcare to Health), avoiding frequent hospital admissions by appropriate care at the community-level or at home (Beyond Hospital to Community), and improved focus on cost-effectiveness (Beyond Quality to Value). Singapore’s decision-makers in healthcare have an open approach to achieve the 3 Beyonds-plan by proactively studying international health systems, such as that in the Netherlands, and welcome foreign expert organisations to test and apply solutions for Singapore’s healthcare challenges within the country. Singapore functions as an entry point for the broader ASEAN market. Solutions which work in the Singaporean health system are picked up by other countries in the region. The country furthermore has an excellent business climate.
