Georgina has lived within the Church Fenton area all her life, many of you may know her as Georgina Hill. Georgina currently lives at Little Fenton, her local knowledge will be invaluable to the councillors. New Email Addresses All parish councillors now have parish council email addresses, please note the new addresses below as well as the new email address for the clerk. Planning Update on the land near St Mary’s Church The application for planning for fifty houses to the south of St Mary’s Church was considered by Selby District Council at planning committee on March 4th and was refused by Selby District Council as the style and design of the houses were not in keeping with this historic setting. We will keep you updated and informed should an appeal be lodged. As a PC we objected to this application, along with the majority of the villagers, your views on developments are captured in our emerging Neighbourhood Development Plan. Thank you to everyone in the village who shared their objections with SDC and contributed towards the application being refused. COVID-19 At the time of writing we are still in ‘lockdown’ and some of us are practicing self-isolation. We hope everyone is well and still staying safe, it has been an incredibly difficult time for all of us, our lives have changed dramatically and we are unsure when it will go back to ‘normal’. As a Parish Council we thank Tadcaster Community Action Group, who gave us advice and guidance on being able to offer support to those who may need it during this difficult period. A sub-group was set up and hopefully you found our newsletters useful, with ideas of things to do and businesses offering services still available during lockdown, including the all important takeaway. We thank the team at Fenton in Focus who supported us with printing and also the volunteers who delivered the leaflets and offered to support with those more vulnerable people in the village. Big thanks to all those who volunteered in the Community Shop to keep it trading and completed home deliveries. As a community we have really pulled together to support each other and we hope this continues once we are able to all meet up again freely. As a parish council we have tried where possible to conduct ‘business as usual’, this includes our on-going projects, the play provision, traffic calming, Neighbourhood plan and a new cemetery site. We have continued with our monthly meetings, using virtual meetings where appropriate to do so and the public have been welcome to join us, all details are available on the agenda and via the clerk, so feel free to join us in this way. Highway Issues We are still awaiting North Yorkshire County Council implementing double yellow lines on Sandwath Lane. The parish council have asked them to consider implementing double yellow lines on parts of Station Road, most notably opposite the entrance to Bridge Close and also on the corners of Oakwood Close as the line of sight is often reduced dramatically due to cars parking too close to the junction. We ask everyone to consider these areas when parking in the village and that you also leave tactile paving at pedestrian crossings clear. Network Rail Upgrade Network Rail held an information meeting for the village in February regarding the transpennine upgrade works required between Church Fenton and York stations. The works have already started and are 6 planned to continue until ugust 022. The parish council are continuing to work with etwork ail and orth orkshire County Council to ensure that the disruption for the village is reduced as much as possible whilst the work takes place. Do ouling Thank you to all those dog owners who clear up after them, it is appreciated. owever, since CD-19 lockdown we have had numerous complaints about dog faeces, particularly across the public footpaths. We ask that you please clean up after your dog as the use of the public footpaths has increased along. ogs should be kept on a lead particularly when walking along streets and by roads. And so, I find myself on a few days at the very end of April and the very beginning of May, writing for a magazine that will cover June, July and August. As things stand, I really have very little idea of what might happen next week, let alone in a few months. We find ourselves in a very strange situation indeed. Along with many other things across the country, church is closed and it is not clear when we will be able to reopen. Very recently, the Prime Minister has announced that there will be a comprehensive plan soon on how to restart the economy, reopen schools and how to make life in the workplace safer. Thoughts about places of worship may be included in this. This sounds encouraging but who knows what this actually means for life from June until the end of August and beyond. Maybe churches will still be closed, maybe they will be open (although we may have to reimagine how we do things for some time). These are difficult and testing times and many people are struggling. However, the sign outside the cartoon church at the top of the page is true – “The building is closed - The church is open”. In some ways, we have continued to do what we have always done but online. If, when you read this, the church building is still closed, you can join us for a church service every Sunday morning at 10.00am on Zoom (Meeting ID 986-101-2744, password 377646). If, when you read this, schools are still closed, you can join us live for Collective Worship / Assembly every Thursday morning at 10.00am on the St. Mary’s Church Church Fenton Facebook page. There are other things happening throughout the week too. 10 n other ays we have done things differently especially in the way that we stay in contact with the most vulnerable people in our community. e have discovered that hat has been said or years and years is actually true – the church is not the building, it’s the people. When we hear that Jesus loves “the church” this doesn’t really mean the building. Special though our stained glass and bell toers and pews and altars etc are the people are really what esus loves. Despite all o the many real diiculties at church and elsewhere, there have been positives in lockdon. At St. Mary’s, people have “come to church” (on Zoom) who otherwise wouldn’t be able to – family scattered around the world people ill in bed people ho don’t like going out in the evenings, people who can’t get out of the house, families where the baby has been up all night and no-one’s had time to get dressed.

  • CEF - Covid-19 Community Group Support Funding September 2020
CEF - Covid-19 Community Group Support Funding September 2020 Offering financial assistance to local volunteer groups and networks who are responding to and recovering from the Covid-19 crisis. Please note the funding should only be used for such associated costs. Aim of the funding The aim of The CEF Covid-19 community support funding is to provide a ‘community float’. This will enable local voluntary groups to access financial assistance to support their activities that help communities to connect again. How do community networks access the funding? The funding is held by the Community Support Organisations (CSO) to administer on behalf of Selby District Council. The CSO will be responsible for coordinating and supporting a network of local voluntary community groups. Under this agreement the CSO will agree a simple payment system with each group across the CSOs network can access the fund. Each group that receives funding will need to produce proof of expenditure (i.e. receipts/invoices.) What expenditure is eligible? The funding can be used flexibly to enable groups to operate smoothly without financial barriers. How the funding has been used will be reviewed / discussed at each reporting stage but it is reasonable to conclude that this is likely to be: . Volunteer expenses (might be mileage, refreshments) in relation to covid-19 response/recovery activity . PPE (gloves, sanitisers etc) . Cleaning/sanitary equipment/items . Administrative/marketing supplies (printing, stamps, stationary etc) . Equipment to enable delivery of services (i.e. phone credit, games, social distance signage) What is not eligible? . Personal payments or financial assistance of any kind.
