Sifu Anthony Chan has many interesting stories, such as, Lam Sang (USA Kwongsai) and Lao Sui having schools opposite each other in IISaukeiwan, Hong Kong. And a Northern Mantis book, in the Hong Kong Library, with a story of Lao Sui being injured by a wanderer. And the book, from 1957, that has the personal notes of Chung Yel Chong's Kwongsai Mantis and another with Chu Kwong Hua playing Chu Gar Som Bo Gin. He once had all those, but he gave them up when he went on a Buddhist pilgrimage for several years, only afterwards, to return to China Hakka Mantis, in Hong Kong. By exchange and brother-friendship with Chan Sifu, I received the complete Chu Gar single man boxing transmission of first generation Lao Sui's disciple, Chu Kai Ming. Special thanks to Anthony Chan Sifu, for this transmission. He shared the preliminary work, warm-ups, horse, fundamentals, basic 12 hands, and forms of this branch, with me. I am passing it on to you in this book and an upcoming DVD. But you can still join my class here, in Guangdong, China! Welcome. It is a loss that Sifu Anthony Chan is old fashioned and prefers to remain private. However, he and I agree, the truth of Hakka Mantis is sometimes stranger than fiction, as you may read further on in this book. In fact, instead of paraphrasing Anthony Chan Sifu's words, let me just transcribe a bit of Preface to this book, in his own words: AC: I never had the intention of printing a book. The postures that you have used in this book are not perfect ones. I didn't do it seriously that day. If you remember, I just showed you what I have learnt from Chu Kai Ming Sifu. And you know that I have an unresolved health issue, so those postures if they are not right, just do your best to correct and explain them in the book. RDH NOTE: We did not originally plan the film we shot to xiii Preface be made into this book. The pictures herein are an accurate representation of the postures; but it was just a day of sharing and exchange with no thought to publish anything, at that time. After further consideration, however, I think it is an important work on Hakka Chu Gar Mantis that will benefit others. So, I have done my best to outline this first generation Lao Sui teaching. It is the complete Transmission of single man training, that Chu Kai Ming trained and taught from the 1920s - 1980s. AC: By the way, I was born in 1954, and my Sifu was born in 1906. Both of us were born in the year of the horse. We were quite similar in character. He passed away in 199?.

Female Asian-Immigrant Representation in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 From the Hollywood behemoth that is Marvel’s Cinematic Universe comes Guardians of Galaxy Vol. 2, a typical fun, action-packed superhero film that follows Peter Quill and the rest of the eponymous team as they discover the answer behind Peter’s elusive parentage. Written and directed by white American filmmaker, James Gunn, the film grossed more than $838 million worldwide, holds an 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, and was honored with an Academy Award nomination. Yet despite this widespread financial and critical success, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which introduces to the big screen Marvel’s very first female Asian superhero, crafts a problematic character in Mantis (played by French-Korean actress, Pom Klementieff). Hidden behind the film’s kaleidoscopic visuals and zany humor lies an age-old subscription to orientalism, yellow peril, and lotus blossom stereotypes, all of which together culminate in perpetuating a ruling class ideology that Asian women are helpless perpetual foreigners whose sole purpose is to serve and be saved by white men. This film is science-fiction. It takes place in space. Nobody, not even Peter Quill, is entirely human. Characters consist of one green-skinned alien, three blue-skinned aliens, countless gold-skinned aliens, talking trees, talking raccoons, and a man with a fin on his head. Yet it is Mantis alone who speaks with a heavy, non-Western accent. From her very first appearance, Mantis is singled out as a perpetual foreigner, a term that harkens back to the keywords of orientalism and yellow peril.

Disease risk management, self-care, reduction of negative drug interactions, falls and injury prevention, stress management, holistic health care, and mind/body medicine are a few examples of these innovations. An integral part of this evolution of health care has been the growing importance of various forms of exercise modalities originating from Asia, including Qi Gong and Tai Chi. Qi Gong and Tai Chi are practices involving movement and meditation based on ancient Chinese philosophies that are purported to promote mental and physical health, vitality, and longevity. Refined in Asia for hundreds of years as a means of promoting health and functional well-being, these practices are also revered for the cultivation of social and spiritual values.1 In recent years, increasing attention in the West has focused on the benefits of Qi Gong and Tai Chi as forms of gentle physical activity for promoting health and well-being and as a moving meditation for stress management and disease risk reduction.

Tai chi and qi gong are mind-body practices that have been used for thousands of years to promote health. Tai chi is one form of qi gong, but there are some differences in how they are practiced. Both target the energy of the body, traditionally called “qi” (pronounced “chee”), via focused breath and movements. Tai chi means “Grand Ultimate Fist” in Chinese, and it has origins in various martial arts practices. Author of the Harvard Medical School Guide to Tai Chi, Dr. Peter Wayne, describes tai chi practice in terms of “eight active ingredients:”1 1. Awareness: Tai chi practice develops focus and mindful awareness. 2. Intention: Tai chi practice actively uses images and visualization to enhance its health effects.

Zhou Xuan Yun On Feb. 1, 2013, the Library of Congress of the United States hosted an event to receive Wudang San Feng Pai. This event included a speech by Taoist (Daoist) priest and Wudang San Feng Pai Master Zhou Xuan Yun and the presentation of important Wudang historical documents and artifacts for a permanent display at the Library. Wudang Wellness Re-established in recent decades, Wudang San Feng Pai is an organization in China, which researches, preserves, teaches and promotes Wudang Kung Fu, which was said originally created by the 13th century Taoist Monk Zhang San Feng. Some believe that Zhang San Feng created Tai Chi (Taiji) Chuan (boxing) by observing the fight between a crane and a snake. Zhang was a hermit and lived in the Wudang Mountains to develop his profound philosophy on Taoism (Daoism), internal martial arts and internal alchemy. The Wudang Mountains are the mecca of Taoism and its temples are protected as one of 730 registered World Heritage sites of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Wudang Kung Fu encompasses a wide range of bare-hand forms of Tai Chi, Xingyi and Bagua as well as weapon forms for health and self-defense purposes. Traditionally, it was taught to Taoist priests only. It was prohibited to practice during the Chinese Cultural Revolution (1966- 1976).
