Do More with Internet Explorer and Firefox Add-Ons [Not for circulation] Do More with Internet Explorer and Firefox Add-ons This document lists a few popular Firefox and Internet Explorer browser add-ons, which make browsing more efficient and enjoyable. Clipmarks: Why bookmark an entire web page, when all you are interested in is a section of the page? Clipmarks lets you clip and share pieces of web pages, instead of having to bookmark the entire page. This handy Internet Explorer and Firefox add-on lets you „clip‟ text, images, and video on any web page. Now, here is the best part: You can share your clips anywhere with the ClipCast widget and save them to your online collection at clipmarks.com. Clips can also be e-mailed, printed, or posted directly to your blog, making it easy to share clips with the world. Clipmarks for Firefox and Internet Explorer can be downloaded at: http://www.clipmarks.com/ Foxmarks: Bookmarks are great. They make it easy to access a web page, without having to type in the address. Unfortunately, bookmarks saved in a browser work only in that computer. But what if you work on multiple computers and want to access all your bookmarks on all the computers? Simple, connect to the Internet and start using Foxmarks. When it has „fox‟ in its name, you know which browser it works with. Get Foxmarks for Firefox at: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2410 ReminderFox: Honestly, how many times have you forgotten to do things you had in mind? For most of us, the answer usually is - “A lot”. Wouldn‟t it be great if your computer could remind you of all the activities that you have planned for the day? Not everyone has Outlook or fancy calendar software on their computer to handle this. The good news is ReminderFox is here, and yes, it works only with Firefox. Get ReminderFox at: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1191 Hyperwords: With Hyperwords, you can now interact with words on the web, not just links. For every word that you highlight on a web page, a menu pops-up with a whole bunch of options. You can choose from many of the powerful commands in the menu, like Google search, Flicker search, Wikipedia, YouTube, and many more. You will never have to go to a search page again! Hyperwords is an incredible add-on that takes browsing and searching to new level. Information Technology Services, UIS 1 [Not for circulation] Hyperwords is currently under development for Internet Explorer and is fully functional on Firefox. Get Hyperwords at: http://www.hyperwords.net/otherbrowser.html Cooliris Previews: Cooliris Previews gives you the power to browse and share web links and rich media faster. Just mouse over any link, and the Cooliris Preview window immediately appears to show you the content. Now, you no longer have to „click‟ to see. Get Cooliris Previews for Firefox at: http://cooliris.com/site/firefox/ and for Internet Explorer at: http://cooliris.com/site/ie/ SearchAll: The top three search engines that people use to perform a search are Google, Yahoo, and MSN. Why search in each of these search engines, one-by-one, when you can get search results from all three at the same time in a single browser window? The SearchAll add-on for Firefox allows you to do just that. For any word, SearchAll displays results from three different search engines at the same time in your browser. There are a host of search engines and websites which you can pick and include in this add-on. SearchAll for now works only with Firefox and can be downloaded at: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5712 IE Tab: Firefox and Internet Explorer are by far two of the most popular Web browsers today. Being a dominant player, most websites were designed to work with Internet Explorer. Therefore, Firefox users will have to use IE to navigate certain websites. The Launch Web Folder option in eDocs (the new UIS document management system) also requires you to use IE. Firefox users can overcome this issue by using an add-on called IE Tab. IE Tab opens an Internet Explorer window as one of the tabs in the Firefox browser, eliminating the need to switch between Internet Explorer and Firefox. IE Tab for Firefox can be downloaded at: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419 iMacros: If you think macros in Microsoft Office are handy, wouldn‟t you want them for your browser too? iMacros is an add-on that automates your browsing habits by recording actions that you perform repeatedly with your browser. It can fill forms, manage and automate your uploads, downloads, and do a whole lot more. iMacros for Internet Explorer and Firefox can be downloaded from: http://www.iopus.com/download/. Install iMacros and see it run the show, the way you want it to. Information Technology Services, UIS 2 [Not for circulation] Video DownloadHelper: Ever wished you could save a copy of the video playing on a website, to review it at a later time? Video DownloadHelper is a Firefox add-on that helps you download embedded videos from web pages. With Video DownloadHelper add-on, you no longer have to use large software applications to download videos. It also supports a large number of formats into which you can convert your downloaded videos. Video DownloadHelper add-on for Firefox can be downloaded from: http://www.downloadhelper.net/ WOT (Web of Trust): In today‟s web environment where malicious codes and viruses are just a click away, wouldn‟t it be handy if you can know about the genuineness of a website‟s link before clicking on it? WOT (Web of Trust) is a popular Internet Explorer and Firefox add-on, managed by the online community which does just that. WOT helps you identify sites which pose a probable threat to your computer‟s security and notify you, before you actually visit the page. WOT can be downloaded from: http://www.mywot.com/ ThumbStrips: ThumbStrips is a Firefox add-on that creates a filmstrip of thumbnails. Now, you can „see‟ your history as a strip of thumbnails, and stop guessing at page names in the history sidebar. You can even share your ThumbStrips! Get ThumbStrips for Firefox at: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5045. Internet Explorer users, sorry. CoolIris Piclens: Cooliris PicLens instantly transforms your browser into a full-screen 3D experience for viewing images across the web. The new interactive "3D Wall" and built-in search function lets you effortlessly drag, click, zoom, and zip your way around a wall of pictures for an extraordinary viewing experience. Try it, you will be impressed. PicLens for Firefox and Internet Explorer can be downloaded at: http://www.cooliris.com/site/support/download-all-products.php Fast Dial: Fast Dial replaces the „about:blank‟ page with a panel of thumbnails of your favorite sites. Now no more going to bookmarks or favorites to access your frequently viewed web pages. Did we hear you say “Wow?” Speed Dial does the same job for Internet Explorer as Fast Dial does for Firefox. You can download Speed Dial as a part of the IE7Pro add-on suite for Internet Explorer at: http://www.ie7pro.com/ and can get Fast Dial for Firefox at: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5721 Information Technology Services, UIS 3 .
