Since 2003, the Statesmen have enjoyed the 1975 16-7 highest level of attendance of any NCAA Division II program in the nation. 1976 13-7 1977 24-6 The construction on the stadium was completed in 1964 under the watchful eye David “Boo” Ferriss, who 1978 23-11 oversaw the transformation of the 6.63-acre parcel of land into DSU’s present day field of dreams. The 1979 22-10 field was named in honor of Ferriss upon his retirement on June 18, 1988. 1980 17-3 1981 21-6-1 Delta State’s all-time record at Ferriss Field is 942-272-4, and the Statesmen have posted an 404-80 mark 1982 18-3 1983 1-11-1 under current head coach Mike Kinnison at the facility. During the “Boo” Ferriss era, DSU was 349-137-1 1984 19-5 (.715). Under head coach Don Ward, the Statesmen were 36-17 (.679); and under Bill Marchant DSU was 1985 24-10 131-34-1 (.789) Last season, the Statesmen posted a 16-3 record at Ferriss Field. 1986 19-8 1987 19-6 In 1971, the State Building Commission authorized the expenditure of $85,000 to add lights to the facility, 1988 32-8 but Ferriss and other DSU administrators made the decision to build a covered grandstand, dugouts, a 1989 13-5 press box, concession stand and restrooms. The early renovations still provided the Statesmen fans with 1990 16-5 the comfort, convenience and true baseball atmosphere that Ferriss had envisioned during his coaching 1991 20-5 1992 15-7 tenure. Prior to the 1999 season the bleachers were renovated and a new press box was built. 1993 11-7-1 1994 16-5 Following the 1999 season Kinnison and his staff painted a yellow home run line on the top of the outfield 1995 27-3 fence and a red-brick backstop with netting was added in January of 2000. New Chairback seats are the 1996 26-2 latest addition to Ferriss Field. Completed in the fall of 2001 the seats are located behind the the new 1997 15-2 backstop at field level. 1998 24-4 1999 16-3 In 2007, the Robert L. Crawford Center was completed. The Crawford center serves as the main entrance 2000 26-4 2001 20-0 and exit point for all Statesmen baseball games. The Crawford Center features an expanded concession 2002 27-3 stand, memorabilia stand and large restrooms. It also houses the “Dave ‘Boo’ Ferriss Museum.” The Ferriss 2003 27-2 Museum is open before each home baseball game and by appointment. 2004 25-3 2005 25-5 In the summer of 2015, thanks to a charitable gift by former All-American Tim Harvey and his wife, Nancy, 2006 17-6 Delta State officially broke ground on a new all-brick grandstand, featuring chairback seats. DSU dedicated 2007 26-3 Tim & Nancy Harvey Stadium at Dave “Boo” Ferriss Field on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015. 2008 25-4 2009 19-6 2010 17-12 FERRISS FIELD IN THE NCAA DIVISION II ATTENDANCE LEADERS (2003-2015) YEAR NATIONAL RANK DATES TOTAl ATTENDANCE AVERAGE 2011 17-5 2015 No. 1 • Ferriss Field 13 7,289 590 2012 17-6 2014 No. 1 • Ferriss Field 15 12,499 833 2013 25-3 2013 No. 1 • Ferriss Field 28 24,904 889 2014 16-3 2012 No. 1 • Ferriss Field 17 13,081 769 2015 11-2 2011 No. 1 • Ferriss Field 15 11,972 798 2016 6-3 2010 No. 2 • Ferriss Field 28 14,619 584 TOTAL: 45 years / 942-272-4 2009 No. 1 • Ferriss Field 19 10,125 533 2008 No. 1 • Ferriss Field 20 16,172 809 COACHES All-TIME RECORDS AT HARVEY STADIUM-FERRISS FIELD 2007 No. 1 • Ferriss Field 22 12,100 550 Mike Kinnison: 404-80 (.838) 2006 No. 3 • Ferriss Field 17 9,105 536 Dave “Boo” Ferriss: 349-137-2 (.715) 2005 No. 1 • Ferriss Field 26 23,249 894 Bill Marchant: 131-34-1 (.789) 2004 No. 2 • Ferriss Field 23 9,089 395 Don Ward: 36-17 (.679) 2003 No. 3 • Ferriss Field 19 6,405 337

THE FERRISS LEGACY l Dave “Boo” Ferriss, a member fo the Boston Red Sox and Mississippi Sports Halls of Fame, is the patriarch of the Statesman baseball program. During his 26 years as head coach, Ferriss establishbed a lasting legacy of success on the field, in the classroom, and within the community.

The Shaw, Mississippi, native spent 46 years in baseball on the collegiate and professional levels, including 26 seasons at Delta State. A legend in national collegiate baseball coaching circles, Ferriss was inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1988 after compiling a 639-387-8 record at Delta State. At the time, his coaching record ranked among the all-time national leaders at the NCAA Division II level for victories.

When Ferriss took over the baseball program in 1960, he literally had to begin in the dirt. The Statesmen played many of their games off campus due to a lack of a quality facility and Ferriss coached without the benefit of an assistant. Over the next three decades, Ferriss turned the meager program into a national power – directing the Statesmen to the NCAA Division II playoffs in eight of his last 12 years, including three trips to the NCAA Division II championships, where they finished third, second and third respectively in 1977, 1978 and 1982.

Gulf South Conference championships came in 1978, 1979, 1985 and 1988, with the Statesmen finishing second in 1981 and third in 1982. Forty-nine of his players earned All-Gulf South Conference honors and academics were always at the forefront of his teaching style, as 95% of his players went on to earn their degrees.
