NEW BRITAIN — It was only fitting that Leslie Danehy got carried off by her Coventry High School teammates. For it was Danehy who put the Patriots, when they were on the verge of disaster, on her shoulders and led them to a 49-46 victory over thrice-stricken Kolbe Cathedral Friday for the state Class S girls’ basketball championship at Cen tral Connecticut State Universi ty’s Kaiser Hall. The state championship was the first for Danehy and com pany, which saw an opportunity go astray in November when the Patriots bowed in the Class S soccer title game. “ It’s satisfy ing,’’ said Danehy of the cham pionship. “ It’s a feeling of ac complishment.” Coventry finishes the season 24-2. For Anna Werfel. Mollie Jacob i n , Corine Cagianello, Brenda ’Thalacker, Nektarla Gltsls and the Danehys — all members of the soccer team — it was making amends. " I couldn’t imagine SMILE FOR T losing the second one,” Leslie Tierney of Ma Danehy said. “ We just wanted it.
