GLENN CHRISMAN Chief of Police (615) 849-2673 [email protected] February 27, 2015 HONORABLE MAYOR AND COUNCILMEMBERS: I am pleased to present a report of the activities of the Murfreesboro Police Department for the calendar year 2014. The past year was one of the busiest on record, including many successes as demonstrated by the statistical data included in this report. I am proud of the hard work and dedicated service of our police officers, detectives, police/fire dispatchers and civilian support staff. They are all committed to providing safe and livable neighborhoods, and continuing to create a better quality of life for our citizens and visitors. Our Police Department employees are truly, “Murfreesboro’s finest.” As was reported earlier in the year, reports of Part I crime to Murfreesboro Police decreased overall by -4% in 2014 from the 2013 year. Traffic crash fatalities reduced in incidents from 9 in 2013 to 8 in 2014. As indicated in the attached reports, there were decreases in reports of rape, robbery, assault, arson, larceny, and motor vehicle theft, while reports of homicides and burglary increased. Calls for police services totaled 108,687, an average of 297 calls for service every day. Uniformed officers and detectives were responsible for 12,324 criminal charges, a 6.6% increase. Criminal investigators processed and investigated several high profile cases and have cleared all but two of the homicides by arrest or other means. Officers issued 37,417 citations (including 19,898 violations and 17,519 warnings) in traffic-related cases and 19,750 parking citations. -
