Winter=S Day at Royal Ascot Cont SATURDAY, 24 JUNE, 2017 FROM HEARTACHE STEMS GREAT JOY WINTER=S DAY AT By Emma Berry ROYAL ASCOT One of the most popular winners of Royal Ascot will undoubtedly be Heartache (GB) (Kyllachy {GB}), who is owned by 76 members of the Hot To Trot racing syndicate, the brainchild of Luke Lillingston and Sam Hoskins. On a day when it was too hot even to break out of a walk, the Clive Cox-trained filly had her joyful owners sprinting for the winner's enclosure after her victory over favourite Happy Like A Fool (Distorted Humor) in the G2 Queen Mary S. on Wednesday. "When we set this syndicate up six years ago, the whole idea was to get people into racing horses who wouldn't normally do so and perhaps couldn't afford to do so on their own but loved racing and loved going racing," said Lillingston. "I know the team behind Merriebelle Stable pretty well and I know that they came here full of confidence with Happy Like A Fool. Frankly, I thought that the best we could hope for was second, but two furlongs Winter stops the clock in the Coronation | racingfotos.com out I started to think it just might be our day.@ Cont. p13 Susan Magnier=s Winter (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) lit up Newmarket=s IN TDN AMERICA TODAY Rowley Mile when annexing last month=s G1 1000 Guineas, BATTLE OF MIDWAY, GIRVIN BACK TO WORK repeating the dose more impressively when besting stablemates ‘TDN Rising Star’ Battle of Midway (Smart Strike), third in the Roly Poly (War Front) and Hydrangea (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in the GI Kentucky Derby, and MGSW Girvin (Tale of Ekati), loom the ones to G1 Irish equivalent three weeks later, and she powered home in beat in the GIII Affirmed S. and GIII Ohio Derby, respectively, Friday=s G1 Coronation S. as that trifecta was replicated at Royal Saturday. AShe was really impressive and did that really well,@ said Anne-Marie O=Brien. AShe=s really good and had to battle, but was by far the most superior there.@ Husband and trainer Aidan added, AShe=s a filly thriving from race to race. She travelled well, Ryan [Moore] had her in a lovely position and she came home really well. She=s very classy, she gets the [one-mile] trip really well and gallops out strong when asked. [Former trainer] David [Wachman] thought the world of her last year and she=s just getting better and better.@ Moore heaped further praise on the winner and continued, AShe=s very professional and only does what she has to do. It=s a hard task to win two Guineas and then come here, but the trainer can do those magic things. Asanta Sana (Ire) (lot 833), a sister to the G3 Munster Oaks winner Pretty Perfect (Ire) and placed fourth on her only two starts for John Gosden earlier this season, was the subject of a tug of war between Andy Williams and Cathy Grassick during the earlier bidding rounds before Sheikh Mohammed's associate Saeed Manana stepped into the fray and placed the winning bid of 330,000gns. The 3-year-old will remain in training and switch to the Newmarket stable of James Tate, who said, "We hope to make her a winner and eventually she will join Saeed Manana's broodmare band. She's had a little break so we'll get going with her again and hope to run her in the autumn." The filly's dam Milanova (Aus) (Danehill) is a sister to champion Roly Poly gained a deserved Group 1 win in the Falmouth S. 2-year-old Holy Roman Emperor (Ire) and a grand-daughter of Racing Post the top-drawer racemare and broodmare Fanfreluche (Can).
