VIII : SUMJ'IARY ANi) CONCLUSIONS 257

VIII. SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS

Extensive collections were made in different seasons at different localities in such as , Bhira,

Chaul,Dongarwadi, , , , Kanakeshwar,

Karnala, , Pen, , Pali, Raigad, Reodanda,

Shriwardhan, Shivatharghal etc. as shown in the map. These collections were quite fruitful as a good number of fungi belonging to the Ascomycetes, Basidiomycetes (Aphyllophorales) and Deuteromycetes, which are described and illustrated in the present work.

From these collections 12k species have been worked out.

Out of which thirtyfive species are described as new to science, nineteen species are new records for the fungi of and many of them are new to .

Following are the important features of the present work.

(1) Ascomycetes :

i) Overall 30 genera and 51 species were studied in

detail; which belonged to the three classes, viz.

Pyrenomycetes, Loculoascomycetes and Discomycetes.

ii) The general like Bagnisiella. Diatrype, Botryosphaeria,

Nectria are rather abundant.

iii) A few rare genera like Auerswaldia.Cryptodiporthe,

Nanfeldtiella. Plectania, Pseudophacidium. Sarcocypha.

Trichothyyrinula and Zignoella are recorded for the

first time. 25S

iv) Eight genera Auerswaldia. Gryptodiporthe. Microstoma,

Nanfeldtiella, Plectania. Pseudovalsa. Trichothyrinula,

Zignoella have been recorded for the first time from

India and their studies have been included in this work,

v) Eleven species are being reported for the first time

from India (Table 1).

vi) Six species have been reported as new records to the

State of Maharashtra (Table 1),

vii) Eighteen new hosts are recorded for the first time,

viii) Twentythree new species have been established (Table 1).

(2) Basidiomycetes (Aphyllophorales) :

Fungi belonging to the Aphyllophorales are quite common in

Raigad district.

i) Overall nine genera and thirtysix species mentioned

in Table 2 have been studied in detail,

ii) The genera Daedalea, Fomes. Ganoderma. Hexagona.

Irpex and Polyporus are abundantly found in this area

as compared to the other genera,

iii) A few rare genera like Favolus and Trametes have been

reported for the first time from Maharashtra,

iv) Tvventyeight species are being reported for the first

time from Maharashtra (Table 2).

v) Forty new hosts are recorded for the first time for

India, 259

(3) Deuteromycetes :

The present work gives an account of about thirtyseven species belonging to twentyeight genera majority of these fungi belonging to Hypomycetes and Goelomycetes.

(A) Hypomycetes :

i) The genera Bahusandhika. Helminthosporium,

Memnoniella. Melanographium, Periconia,

Paathramaya. Stilbum, Septonema, Tharoopama and

Zygosporium are of common occurrence,

ii) Genera Brachysporium and Exosporiella are being

reported for the first time from India,

iii) Genera Asperisporium, Septonema and Stilbum are

being reported for the first time from the State

of Maharashtra,

iv) Two species are being reported for the first time

from India (Table 3).

v) Six species are being reported for the first time

from Maharashtra State (Table 3).

vi) Sixteen new hosts are recorded for the first time

for India.

(B) Goelomycetes :

i) The genera Botryodiplodia. Gytospora. Haplosporella.

Pyrenochaeta are of common occurrence. 260

ii) Cytospora. iPothiochiza, Leptostroma.

Neottiospora are the rarely occurring genera

which have been reported from this area,

iii) The genera Cytospora. Neottiospora and

Leptostroma are being reported for the first

time from the State of Maharashtra.

iv) Two species are being reported for the first time

from India (Table 4).

v) Eight new hosts are recorded for the first time

for India.

vi) Twelve new species have been established

(Table 4).

Thus, the present work provides a detailed information about the mycoflora of Raigad district, quite a good number of these are reported for the first time from India and majority of them constitute a new record for the State of Maharashtra.

Consequently, the number of fungal taxa known from the Raigad district has increased.

Evidently, one can hopefully look for a better future for such type of studies in this direction which will prove quite fruitful. 261
