James and John accompa- ny Jesus up the mountain. When they arrive, they notice that Moses and Elijah are already there, waiting for them. Why Moses and Eli- jah? Moses was the great law-giver of the He- brew people. His presence greeting Jesus sig- naled that Jesus is the fulfillment of the law. Elijah was a great prophet. His presence greeting Jesus signaled that Jesus is the fulfill- ment of the prophets. All that has come before has been in anticipation of what is now in front of them; the Messiah has arrived.
