2ND SUNDAY in LENT In our gospel today we hear of the Transfig- uration of the Lord. James and John accompa- ny Jesus up the mountain. When they arrive, they notice that Moses and Elijah are already there, waiting for them. Why Moses and Eli- jah? Moses was the great law-giver of the He- brew people. His presence greeting Jesus sig- naled that Jesus is the fulfillment of the law. Elijah was a great prophet. His presence greeting Jesus signaled that Jesus is the fulfill- ment of the prophets. All that has come before has been in anticipation of what is now in front of them; the Messiah has arrived.

A LENTEN PRAYER

“Lord God, you have known us from the beginning of time. You have known us in the depths of our innermost dreams and in the darkness of those times we have not warranted your love. Whether in our best moments or worst, you still call us your beloved. Help us to know who we are and who we want to be in this Lenten season of repentance and mercy. Give us the assurance of your unwavering faith in us as we seek the same in you.” Amen

LENTEN REFLECTIONS Deacon Jim will offer five-minute reflections on each week of Lent. These will be posted on Sts. Anthony and Joseph’s Facebook page (saints anthony joseph church). Comments are welcome and appreciated.

TAX TIME It is that time of year when tax returns have to be filed. As you may know, you can claim your church offertory contributions (i.e. if you use enve- lopes). This is a good time of year to encourage those who do not use envelopes to think about using them. Contribution statements are available by calling the parish office. St. John’s 315-845-8017 and Sts. An- thony and Joseph 315-866-6373. NEW THIS YEAR due to a recent change in the tax code, people who do not itemize are still eligible to claim up to $300 of charitable giving for the 2020 tax year.

Greeters Needed We are starting again with Greeters at both Churches. If you can volunteer your time please call the parish offices. We will be offering training. Thank you!
