2ND SUNDAY in LENT In our gospel today we hear of the Transfig- uration of the Lord. James and John accompa- ny Jesus up the mountain. When they arrive, they notice that Moses and Elijah are already there, waiting for them. Why Moses and Eli- jah? Moses was the great law-giver of the He- brew people. His presence greeting Jesus sig- naled that Jesus is the fulfillment of the law. Elijah was a great prophet. His presence greeting Jesus signaled that Jesus is the fulfill- ment of the prophets. All that has come before has been in anticipation of what is now in front of them; the Messiah has arrived.

TAX TIME It is that time of year when tax returns have to be filed. As you may know, you can claim your church offertory contributions (i.e. if you use enve- lopes).
