A nationwide search for a permanent President and Publisher is underway. An accomplished newspaper executive, Hopson recently served as GateHouse Media’s interim Publisher of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “In Las Vegas, Jim did an outstanding job creating stability, guiding the organization’s integration with GateHouse and partnering with the management team to drive operating results,” said Kirk Davis, CEO of GateHouse Media. “I’m thrilled to have Jim on board during this period of transition as we actively look for a senior executive to serve as the permanent President and Publisher of The Columbus Dispatch and to lead our central U.S. publishing portfolio.” Hopson’s career includes senior leadership positions at: Harte-Hanks Communications; The Press of Atlantic City (NJ); Community Newspaper Company (Boston, MA); Thomson Newspapers (Central Ohio); and Lee Enterprises, where he held a group corporate role and served as Chairman of Capital Newspapers in Madison, WI, and Publisher of the Wisconsin State Journal. Several years ago, Hopson was coaxed out of retirement and began assisting newspaper companies undergoing transition. Hopson is a graduate of the University of Missouri (Journalism) and earned his MBA from Harvard University. He has served on numerous industry boards and has been active in his community.
