  • NY SAFE Act Frequently Asked Questions
NY SAFE Act Frequently Asked Questions: Below are FAQ intended to help gun owners in New York understand and comply with the NY SAFE Act enacted on January 15, 2013. If your question is not answered here, please continue to check back, as this list will be updated regularly. You can also call the NY Safe Act hotline at 1-855-LAWGUNS 8:00 AM - 9:00 PM for more information. Q: What does this law do? A: The NY SAFE Act is designed to make New York a safer place to live by reducing gun violence through common sense and reasonable reforms. The law respects the right to bear arms and the interest of hunters, sportsmen, and legal owners who use their guns appropriately. The law protects New Yorkers by: Keeping guns out of the hands of convicted felons and potentially dangerous mental health patients. Banning high capacity magazines and assault weapons. Ensuring all gun purchases are subject to a background check. Toughening criminal penalties on those who use illegal guns. Assault Weapons Q: I own a gun that I use for hunting, is it an assault weapon? A: Most guns that are used for hunting are not assault weapons and are not affected by this law. Typical shotguns and hunting rifles are exempt as the law specifies military style assault weapons by design characteristics. For example, any pump, lever, or bolt action shotgun or rifle cannot be an assault weapon. To confirm that your rifle is not an assault weapon and to see common models and characteristics click the links below: Rifles that are NOT classified as assault weapons Rifles that

  • OPS and TACTICS: ARMORY Version 1.10 2
1 OPS AND TACTICS: ARMORY Version 1.10 2 How to use this book This book is a supplement to the Ops and Tactics RPG system, expanding the armor and firearm selection of the base Ops and Tactics Core Rulebook. This book is to used as a reference book, expanding the selection of firearms in the game, beyond the core rulebook, as well as a learning tool, to better understand each category of firearm, their intended uses, and tactics to use and develop on. For GMs, this book can be used when building campaigns, to provide a more real-world feeling to the NPCs, providing them with believable weaponry, as well as fitting tactics. Building a Campaign When building a campaign, your first question should always be “What kind of Campaign am I making?”. This question is asked, to determine how important, if at all, will firearms be in your campaign. Should multiple guns in different calibers make an appearance, or is everyone wielding 9x19mm? If the campaign is going to be action packed, then the details and intricacies should be fitting. The campaign should focus less on the simple interactions with the NPCs, and more on the action and fights. Likewise, if the campaign is heavily focused on drama, then the roleplay aspect of this should be focused on rather than the accessories to their primary sidearms. Be sure to ask your players what kind of game they wish to participate in, and use their answers to design around that type of campaign. If you do decide to run a game that is heavy on firearms, then this book will be a valuable asset.

HANDGUNS A BEGINNER’S GUIDE Choose the Best Self-Defense Handgun CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION When concealing a handgun wasn’t that important, larger weapons like this Cimarron Arms copy of an 1851 could be employed. (Cimarron Photo) or some reason I will never understand, during the latter decades of the 19th century in America, the open carry of Fweapons declined. Perhaps some people thought they were too sophisticated to be armed, or that being armed somehow wasn’t fashionable or some such silliness. Maybe the “upper crust” was becoming afraid of the rest of us and just did something stupid. In some instances, in the post-Civil War period, prohibitions against weapons arose as a tool to deny freed slaves access to arms. And some likely good-hearted but woefully misguided souls probably thought they were doing something to curb crime or make a social statement against violence. Whatever the reason, by the closing years of the 19th century and opening years of the 20th century, being armed at all on the street – even if not openly – was illegal in many locales, 8 GUN DIGEST® BUYER’S GUIDE TO CONCEALED CARRY HANDGUNS Z8905pg001-224.indd 8 8/27/10 9:47:55 AM New York’s “Sullivan Law” of 1911 being the must be armed, either fi nd the means by which most egregious example of such restrictions. to circumvent draconian anti-fi rearms laws by Those of us who are sensible, and do not getting some sort of legal pass – a badge as a labor under a religious or moral obligation volunteer or reserve deputy, etc.
