Your attention is drawn to the Important Notice on the last page of the text. Tredym house – For Sale Freehold Tredym House is approached down its own private driveway off a quiet lane. There is plenty of parking beside the house, on the other side of which, are a series of outbuildings. A Wisteria covered open porch leads through to an entrance hallway and study. Beyond this is the kitchen/breakfast room that has a two door Aga. The kitchen leads through to the utility room, back door and a downstairs cloakroom and wc. Beside the kitchen is the dining room that was part of the original 16th Century house and has an original Delabole slate flagstone floor and at one end is an original inglenook fireplace and cloam oven. The dining room joins the sitting room that has two original fireplaces; we understand one was once a smoker and the other now has a woodburner. Off the sitting room is a south west facing conservatory. Stairs lead up from the sitting room to the first floor landing, off which are four bedrooms and a family bathroom. The principal bedroom has an en-suite shower room and the family bathroom has a bath. From the first floor there are lovely far-reaching views out across the countryside to Nare Head. Gardens and Grounds There are a number of gorgeous large original barns and outbuildings with great potential that currently comprise a garden room, a workshop, a double garage, a boat store and a further barn. Much of the garden is laid to lawn and in addition to an orchard there are a series of raised vegetable beds. The garden has a great number of specimen shrubs and trees including Echium, Magnolia Grandiflora, Hornebeam, Fig and a Tulip tree. There are also south facing terraces that are perfect for outside entertaining. The roseland Peninsula The hamlet of Trethem lies in the heart of the Roseland Peninsula and is about 2 miles from St Mawes. The next door village of St. Just in Roseland is renowned for its historic church and churchyard, nestling beside the beautiful tidal creek, in a natural bowl, where subtropical plants grow beside native trees and flora. The nearby village of St Mawes is an enchanting south facing harbour on the eastern side of the Fal Estuary, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village is centred round its quaint harbour, its own beaches and castle. It has an impressive and wide range of amenities that are open all year including butchers, bakers, convenience store, post office/newsagent, doctors, hairdressers, dentist, pharmacy, village hall, church, delicatessen and clothing shops including Fat Face. The village also has two public houses, and an excellent range of cafés, restaurants, art galleries, gift and ice cream shops. St Mawes has long been one of the West Country’s most desirable and exclusive destinations, with Olga Polizzi’s Hotel Tresanton, the recently re-modelled Idle Rocks Hotel, the St Mawes Hotel and the Rising Sun Hotel all offering excellent dining. The village has superb sailing waters and an active sailing club with youth training, village regattas, club races and various national championships. St Mawes has a regular passenger ferry service to the colourful port of Falmouth. The cathedral city of Truro is approximately 8 miles distant via the King Harry car ferry, and offers a particularly fine range of shops, schools, commercial and business facilities and a station on the Penzance to Paddington line. Further afield, Cornwall has been enjoying a renaissance offering a range of accessible attractions such as the Eden Project, the National Maritime Museum, the Lost Gardens of Heligan, the Tate St Ives, Truro Cathedral. Fine dining Michelin star and celebrity chef restaurants are in abundance, including Rick Stein (Falmouth and Padstow), Jamie Oliver (Fifteen), Nathan Outlaw (St Enodoc, Rock), Paul Ainsworth (Padstow), and the Roseland’s own Chris Eden at the Driftwood, Rosevine. • 'Food & Drink Awards 2010. 2008 Winners Spread'
FOOD AND DRINK AWARDS 2010 The Cornwall Life Food & Drink Awards 2010 are being held at The Headland Hotel in Newquay on Tuesday 28 September 2010, where winners will be treated to a drinks reception and a three-course lunch, followed by an Awards Ceremony. We will be announcing the finalists in the November 2010 issue of Cornwall Life. To whet your appetite, we asked some of the winners from the 2008 Cornwall Life Food & Drink Awards why they love Cornish produce and where they love to eat. Lostwithiel Market – Best Farmers’ Market Joy Cheeseman (right) is from Lostwithiel Farmers’ Market. “Since the 2008 Cornwall Life Food & Drink Awards we opened a shop called Taste Cornwall in Liskeard, which sells only local food and locally made skincare products. The shop celebrated its second birthday in February this year.” We consider that Cornish produce is the best, sourced from local producers, whether on the land and in small fields, in the kitchen and in small quantities, or specialising in artisan products for the niche market.” Our favourite places to eat: “We prefer to eat amongst our friends, using the best ingredients Cornwall has to offer and ensuring that the skills of home cookery are alive and well to pass on to another generation.” Rosevine – Best Restaurant Tim Brocklebank (left) is the owner of The Rosevine on the Roseland peninsula. “We love Cornish produce because it is the freshest. The warmer weather ripens fruit better than elsewhere. The clear waters produce seafood of the best quality refreshed by the Atlantic swells. The meats are tender and ‘unstressed’ and vegetables cared for by dedicated families.” Our favourite places to eat: “A romantic dinner at The Driftwood, Portscatho, a family Sunday lunch at The Plume of Feathers at Mitchell, or a BBQ with our friends on Porthcurnick Beach.” Polgoon Vineyard – Best Drinks Producer John and Kim Coulson (right) are from Polgoon Vineyard near Penzance.
