Comparing whole numbers:
Step 1: Line up the ones digit of the numbers.
Step 2: Compare the digits in the same place from left to right. If the digits are the same, compare the digits in the next place.
Step 3: The number that has a higher digit in that place value is the larger number. Use < > and = to compare. 1,699 1,681 ex:

Comparing and Ordering Decimals Step 1: Line up the decimal points.
Step 2: Add any zeros to make sure all numbers have the same number of places.
Step 3: Compare the digits from left to right until you come to two different digits.
