9 WYOMING SHAKESPEARE COMPANY MEASURE FOR MEASURE sunday JULY 25 951 n. poplar use back/east entrance 4:00pm Is William Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure a comedy? Or to be taken seriously? The title of Measure for Measure comes from the gospel of Matthew: “For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you” (Matthew 7:2). The themes are religion: morality, virtue, sin, punishment, death, and atonement. Yet it’s labeled a “problem play’ because it blurs the lines between tragedy and comedy. It is up to us to find the truth contained in each moment. William Shakespeare wrote Measure for Measure when he was well versed as a playwright. He experiments in form, mixing comedy and tragedy. His artistry guides the audience to concentrate more, engaging more fully in the play; we cannot rely on formulaic conventions of what to expect. In producing Measure for Measure with this wonderful cast, we question each other on when overt comedy is earned or when it nervously detours from the dreadful, the tragic. Like the scales of justice the title implies, we strive to find the right balance. 10 The Casper Children’s Theatre creates theatre experiences that educate, challenge, and inspire the youth in the Casper community. CCT’s engaging and learning programs annually serve students ages 4-18 through theatre arts training, multidisciplinary workshops, and early childhood education programs. We pride ourselves in having a comprehensive platform for access, diversity, and inclusion in our audiences, programs, staff, and board that strives to ensure that theatre is a home for all people, all families, reflective of our community.

MUSIC AND POETRY CORY McDANIEL & VICKI WINDLE Cory: Vicki Windle and I have worked together on so many projects that people say we’re starting to look alike.

Vicki: I think it was 2010 when Cory McDaniel and I became reacquainted. He asked what I’d been up to. I told him I’d started writing poetry, and he suggested we try collaborating on a program. We’ve been conjuring up programs ever since.

Cory: The music and poetry series enables us to weave music and poetry together around a common theme. This year’s theme will reflect the story from the upcoming film, “Forgotten Ingenue”.

This is the second film I’ve worked on with Dennis Rollins, and it has been a godsend during the year of COVID. The film is about Isabel Jewell, an actress from Shoshoni, Wyoming that was in “Gone with the Wind” and many other major motion pictures, along with radio and TV MONDAY programs. Vicki: Collaborating with Cory is always a delight. Our different views AUG. 2 and backgrounds meld with a creative alchemy. THE BLUEBIRD Both: We want to thank ArtCore for providing artists with the AT THE CHEESE BARREL opportunity to create and perform. It was my intention to present the entire Six Sonatas and Partitas to you, the Artcore audience, during, and in celebration of, their tricentennial year, 2020. Life, however, has made it clear that it has rather definite plans to the contrary, so instead of March and November 2020, we have Part 1 in November and Part 2 in April 2022!

At the time of their composition, the Six Sonatas and Partitas would have been known to those in Bach’s immediate circle but they were not published during his lifetime. Possession of the sunday autograph manuscript, through the distribution of his estate, was given to one of Bach’s children and then, mostly forgotten. The compositions instead became known to violinists only apr. 24 through disseminated copies from the autograph, or copies our saviour’s of copies, (often fragmented and all with varying degrees of lutheran church inaccuracy), and were viewed mainly as valuable pedagogical tools. Indeed, there is little evidence to suggest that these 4:00pm works were being played in concert, except, perhaps, in fragments, until well into the nineteenth century! It was not until Joseph Joachim, who would become one of their earliest and greatest champions, became acquainted with the complete autograph manuscript and adopted them, in whole, as a staple in his repertoire, that they secured their rightful place on the concert stage. He can even be heard playing selections from these works on recordings made in 1903! the tremors When singer-songwriter Cory McDaniel and harmonizing string bassist Dale Bohren perform for Artcore as the Tremors this season, they will have likely just returned from their 2022 tour of German music festival and home concerts. A few years ago, after performing original and “Tremorized” versions of others’ music around central Wyoming and Europe for more than 35 years, this duo sought to expand their personal horizons.

Cory continues to write and perform regularly with bass player Amy Gieske and variety of local blues musicians, including writing the musical score for “Unknown Ingenue,” a movie by filmmaker Dennis Rollins about an actress born in Shoshoni.

Dale has been busy playing in live theater pit ensembles, a variety of symphony orchestras and working on solo string bass performance while playing occasional tango gigs with Steve Trinkle and Genie Burkett.

For the Tremors, an Artcore gig has never been just another gig. It is an opportunity to write and perform as special a show as possible for a special hometown audience.
