1 What is Vacant and Derelict Land?

Vacant and Derelict Land Brought Back into Use

? Map 07 (on page 09) shows the location of sites that were removed from the Vacant and Derelict Land Audit in 2016 due to being returned to use. Of these sites, residential was the 14 vacant predominant new use accounting for 9 of the 14 sites removed and 13.39 hectares of the 16.76 and derelict hectares of vacant and derelict land removed from the audit in 2016. This highlights the land sites importance of the housing sector in reducing the levels of vacant and derelict land in Fife. The brought back return of 16.76 hectares of vacant and derelict land in 2016 represents a 323% increase in land into use in being brought back in to use compared to 2015. Fife’s Vacant and Derelict Land by Area Committee

Properties within a distance of 500m of Cowdenbeath derelict sites have been identified as they are considered to be more detrimental to Glenrothes communities. Table 09 shows the 18.84% number of properties by committee area 46.65% which are within 500m of derelict sites. This section details Fife’s settlements which have a significant proportion of vacant and derelict land within their boundary. Figure 05 shows the 10 settlements in Fife which have the largest total area (in hectares) of vacant and derelict land within their settlement boundaries. This shows that Rosyth is the settlement with the most vacant and derelict land within its settlement boundary with 65.52 hectares in total.
