Robert Smyth

Admissions Policy for Entry from September 2016

Robert Smyth Academy has adopted the Local Authority Admissions Policy and County Council makes all decisions about placements.

Purpose of this Policy The purpose of the policy is to ensure that places at Robert Smyth Academy are allocated and offered in an open and fair way.

Applying for a place A parent can apply for a place for their child at any state-funded school. Parents apply to the local authority in which they live (for Robert Smyth Academy that would usually be Leicestershire County Council) for a place at Robert Smyth Academy. The annual closing date for applications to be made to the local authority is 31st October for a place the following September.

Planned Admission Number Robert Smyth Academy will have an admission number of 180 for entry into Year 7.

If the Academy is undersubscribed, any parent that applies will be offered a place. If oversubscribed, applications will be ranked in order against its published oversubscription criteria by the local authority.

Oversubscription Criteria Where there are more applications for Robert Smyth Academy than there are places available, priority will be given to children in the appropriate age range whose parents applied on time, in the following order. (See note i of the Local Authority policy).

(See note ii of the Local Authority policy)

2. Children who live in Robert Smyth Academy catchment area for the majority of the school week, with priority for admission given to those children who live nearest the Academy. The catchment area is published on the Leicestershire County Council website and a copy is also attached to this document. (See note iii of the Local Authority policy)

3. Children who have a brother or sister attend the Academy at the same time, with priority for admission given to those children who live nearest to the Academy. For these arrangements, the term brother or sister includes half brother or sister or legal adopted child being regarded as the brother or sister. (See notes iv and v of the Local Authority policy)
