KATANNING & DISTRICTS GARDEN CLUB Our second club meeting for 2011 was held at the home of Irene Matthews, 48 Braeside Road Katanning on Tuesday 8th March with 13 members in attendance. A wall mirror falling from its hook the day before didn't spook those present but Irene was open to suggestions of how to mend her antique hall stand! Thank you for your open home Irene and we hope you have been able to get your hall stand repaired. President Gerry Watson chaired the meeting and as usual presented a number of practical garden hints - some of which are included in this report for all keen gardeners to use if they so desire. Our March meeting included the popular bi-monthly swap a plant segment. The monthly raffle was won by Pam Garlick. The new club concept re raffles is that the winner is responsible for supplying a raffle prize for the next meeting. It doesn't have to be anything bought - it doesn't have to be anything to do with gardening - can be a potted plant, a novelty, or a batch of biscuits! It is your free choice. March competition Results:- Tree/shrub or specimen (Dahlia): 1st, 2nd & 3rd - Bess Parrott. Floral Art - Still Life: 1st - Gerry Watson; 2nd - Helen Bignell; 3rd - Karen Bessell-Browne. (2) Because daytime temperatures are still remaining quite high ferns will still need to be watered but not saturated. Remember to give the fronds time to dry off before nightfall because wet fronds can promote fungal growth. (3) Sow succulent seeds and propagate cuttings. This is also a good time to repot cacti. NEXT MEETING: At the home of Pam Garlick, 9 Clive Street Katanning 1:30pm Tuesday 12th April 2011. All most welcome. (Members please note the floral art competition is Inverted Crescent). Have you tried REIKI?? Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if its high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
