To gain 8th position from 12th after the last round and to then produce extraordinary finals performances across the next three weeks, culminating in a Grand Final that went all the way over three days and down to the last ball is a credit to the commitment of the playing group and game plan preparation of the coaching team. The Club’s initiative to support Nick Jewells’ appointment as Captain Coach three seasons ago with a suitably skilled panel of coaches has proven invaluable in developing our players. Having a wealth of first class knowledge and general cricket experience within the panel is unequalled in Premier cricket and the benefits have in a short period of time produced an opportunity to challenge for the Premier Cricket Pennant and a CV rookie contracted player. While as a Club we remain disappointed that we lost and no doubt the pain will linger (as it should) we cannot under estimate the enormous boost to the Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club brand across a number of markets that our performance created. Reinforced by the terrific support we received by members attending the Grand Final, as well as the “external” support via Facebook and the Cricket Victoria website, it proved we have a large silent supporter base across the Peninsula and beyond. Our continuous improvement strategy is on track and evidenced by the on field development of a number of our pathway players emerging to challenge the status quo of established players under the guidance of a panel of first class coaches second to none within the competition. A super performance over the season from James Miller a well-deserved Club Champion, hovering with form early season, he turned that around to again be one of the top competition performers and an example of how to professionally prepare yourself for the battle, congratulations “Funk”. However while we were mostly competitive across the elevens, the performances of our 2nd eleven left room for a lot of improvement and questions over a number of playing personnel who were on the verge of 1st eleven selection showing a lack of application at times. If we are to challenge again for the Premier prize it is this group that we require to respect the competition and work harder to improve their performances and again challenge for 1st eleven selection. I cannot put it any plainer than it is imperative to our success over the next few years. I acknowledge the outstanding work of our coaching panel headed by Nick Jewell, and assisted by Peter Buchanan, Shaun Graf, Ian Brayshaw, Dave McClean and Chris Hall, with the support, coordination and direction of Cricket Operations Manager Mark O’Sullivan. The best is yet to come.... Accepting our responsibility as a Premier Club in the region and the development and support of pathway squads is vitally important to our sustainability in Premier cricket. The strength of our partnership with local associations is imperative with support from Cricket Victoria and the Regional Cricket Manager, ensures a well- coordinated program for young aspiring cricketers to reach their potential. To the entire pathway support groups, coaches, managers and scorers thank you for providing much needed support and direction. I also Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club 3 Annual Report 2010-11 acknowledge the role that many parents play providing background support, guidance and for the manner in which many have embraced the “Heat” as their Club. It is hugely beneficial and important for our Club to have pathway coaches, Dave McClean, Andrew Cowen and Brett Hudgson integrate with our Club in development roles that assists the transition from pathway cricket to Premier Cricket. The “Peninsula T20 Challenge” Vs the MPCA was an outstanding event and promotion of cricket for our region, I take this opportunity to thank MPCA President Stephen Morone and the MPCA Board for supporting the idea. I also acknowledge the many hours of planning that went into the event by the joint FPCC/MPCA organising group and thank them for their efforts. Both groups have committed to an annual event for a minimum of another two years. Proudly FPCC provided approximately 35 volunteers on the day, mostly players and supporters, your efforts certainly went a long way to the success of the day, thank you. Governance Again this season the Board took on some big challenges, committing to a competition benchmark electronic scoreboard, as well as the installation of warm climate turf for the eastern playing field. Replacing the canteen operations team after many years of service and with two resignations during the season, due to ill health and work/family commitments, the remaining Board members took up the slack to ensure all the bases were covered with minimal impact. Since the last AGM the Board has meet formally on 19 occasions and another 12 times informally to resolve issues as they arise. Attendance at Board meetings by Board members was an average 83%. I commend them all for their ongoing commitment. The Club’s financial position, while stable, continues to confront the Board as an ongoing challenge to maintain responsible fiscal management on behalf of the members. However rather than carry a significant surplus the decision to invest in our future players via the assembled coaches is a direction the Board is strongly committed too and believes is beginning to give the intended payback in player performances. With the retirement of our General Manager Wayne Ross, I on behalf of all our members acknowledge his outstanding contribution in this position to the HEAT including his knowledge, experience and diligence in keeping up with the ever increasing reporting requirements of CV ensuring all requests were meet in a timely manner, and coordinating the pathway training and list management. His is also highly regarded by CV as a mentor / go to person for new Administration Managers over his time. Wayne complimented his role with many valuable volunteer hours as well, thank you and well played “Rosso”. It is now a pleasure to welcome onboard Glenn Davey as Wayne’s replacement; I wish Glenn every success in his new position and look forward to working with him. Cricket Victoria The future direction of the Premier Cricket competition is ever evolving and we must have the flexibility to evolve with it. One day format changes, T20’s emergence and the continuing focus of the longer forms of the competition, suggests there are opportunities for a broader group of players to get to the elite 1st class level. Congratulations to Scott Boland on his CV rookie contract elevation. Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club 4 Annual Report 2010-11 Volunteers Most Premier Clubs are struggling for active volunteers to fill a variety of tasks over a week in season. The installation of the new Scoreboards’ electronic cabling and associated works was led by Peter Buchanan and Darren Christy and set the scene for volunteer contributions for the season. They both made a major time and materials commitment to ensure the end product was what was required. Thank you both. I also take this opportunity particularly acknowledge once again the contribution by all volunteers throughout the season, including; The continued contribution by our Manager, Cricket Operations, Mark O’Sullivan, this seasons’ “Best Clubman”. “Sully” is highly regarded and respected by the playing group and Board alike. Well done and we hope there is many years ahead serving the HEAT. The Thursday night meals team lead by Helen Hudgson, Sarah Walker and Karen Voelkl providing delicious fair each selection night is a great tradition and appreciated by all. Another season of the “Heat in the Kitchen” luncheons was successfully driven by Mark Dunsford. I know we all thank Mark for his efforts in establishing a significant supporter data base and a successful series of lunches and outstanding guest speakers. Bill Chernishoff who took on the mighty challenge of running the canteen. Sponsorship The Frankston City Council should be acknowledged for their ongoing support for the provision of first class Jubilee Park facilities. Local Government plays a primary role in the provision and maintenance of our facilities and we congratulate and thank Gary Woolard, Manager Parkland Services. Thanks to our major sponsor BUILDSAFE. Phil Graf and his team are fantastic supporters of our Club over a long period; we express the Board’s gratitude for his continued support. I welcome and thank Tony Stocker from C&S Lightweight for coming on board with valuable support. The Frankston RSL, have also been long term partners supporting our Club over our journey. Mark Dunsford, Financial Services Partners, Martin Scanlon, Rail Signaling Services are all special sponsor partners and we appreciate their ongoing involvement.
