Today, it is a vibrant 3,000-plus member national association comprised of the sports public relations, com- munications and information professionals throughout all levels of collegiate athletics in the United States and Canada. CoSIDA became an affiliated partner with NACDA (National As- sociation of Collegiate Directors of Athletics in December of 2008. CoSIDA founded and administers the highly regarded “Academic All-America®” program, viewed as the premier college athletics awards program for honoring combined aca- demic and athletic excellence. Capital One became the Academic All-America® rights holder and title sponsor in January of 2011. CoSIDA has two primary missions as it seeks to have its profession,organization and membership take its rightful leader- ship role within the decision-making levels of the intercollegiate athletics community: 1) Help the communications and media relations professionals at all collegiate levels with professional development and continuing education as it relates to strategically dealing in an effective manner with the various issues, challenges and opportunities that now exist within the fast-paced and ever-changing communications environment. 2) Play a significant leadership and resource role (i.e. “Strategic Communicators for College Athletics”) within the overall enterprise of collegiate athletics thus helping the other management groups and their respective memberships deal with a set of communications-based issues that is the most complex and challenging in history. CoSIDA founded in the mid 1950’s the highly regarded “Academic All-America” pro- gram, unquestionably regarded as the premier awards program in intercollegiate athletics for honoring combined aca- demic and athletic excellence. CoSIDA continues to fully manage and administer that program today. CoSIDA’s Board of Director leadership is comprised of eight elected officer positions (President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, 3rd Vice President, three Past Presidents removed, and Secretary-Digest Editor), along with 10 other Board appointees. These athletic PR professionals, along with an Executive Director, Director of External Affairs and Di- rector of Internal Operations/Treasurer, compose the organization’s leadership group.     DECEMBER 2002 From the President s we look ahead to the coming new year, we are reminded of the many people and activities that have shepherded us in our mission as a Christian University. In his Founders’ Day Convocation address, Rev. Mark Denison BA ’82, encouraged the faculty, staff, students, trustees and Founders present to look to Hebrews 12 “ ... persevere in running the race that lies before us while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus.” As testament to the power of the Word, Mark acknowledged the Founders, faculty and staff who ran the good race and are now looking to us to continue that race in our lives. In recollecting hisA HBU experiences, he remembered members of the HBU family who shaped the University and have gone on to be with the Lord, including Dr. Walter Lumpkin BA’81, a beloved Christianity professor and friend to many on campus. In other celebrations of God’s Word, the University dedicated its Bible in America Museum collection with a brunch at Houston’s Power Center. There, Dr. Kirbyjon Caldwell, Pastor of Windsor Village Methodist Church and Dr. Jeannette Clift George, Director of the A.D. Players, shared accounts of the Bible’s significance and history to a crowd of more than 700. At The Guild’s annual Christmas Luncheon, Colleen Swindoll Dane continued the holiday season’s focus on Jesus Christ in her presentation, “In the Shadow of the Cross.” When it comes to the HBU family, we are continually blessed by people who share a common commitment to serving the University’s mission.
