About the Authors Dr. Yadro Ducic MD completed medical school and Head and Neck Surgery training in Ottawa and Toronto, Canada and finished Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Minnesota. He moved to Texas in 1997 running the Department of Otolaryngology and Facial Plastic Surgery at JPS Health Network in Fort Worth, and training residents through the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. He was a full Clinical Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head Neck Surgery. Currently, he runs a tertiary referral practice in Dallas-Fort Worth. He is Director of the Baylor Neuroscience Skullbase Program in Fort Worth, Texas and the Director of the Center for Aesthetic Surgery. He is also the Codirector of the Methodist Face Transplant Program and the Director of the Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship in Dallas-Fort Worth sponsored by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He has authored over 160 publications, being on the forefront of clinical research in advanced head and neck cancer and skull base surgery and reconstruction. Dr. Moustafa Mourad completed his surgical training in Head and Neck Surgery in New York City from the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mt. Sinai. Upon completion of his training he sought out specialization in facial plastic, skull base, and reconstructive surgery at Baylor All Saints, under the mentorship and guidance of Dr. Yadranko Ducic. Currently he is based in New York City as the Division Chief of Head and Neck and Skull Base Surgery at Harlem Hospital, in addition to being the Director for the Center of Aesthetic Surgery in New York. Dr. Mourad is a prolific writer with more than 40 publications in the peer reviewed literature centered around clinical, epidemiological, and translational research. Dr. Mourad is also the founder for the Society for Head and Neck Reconstructive and Microsurgery, dedicated to the advancement and training of future reconstructive surgeons. Katrina Jensen has been practicing exclusively in the field of Head & Neck rehabilitation for 20 years, including a 4 year training fellowship with the surgeons from the University of Pittsburgh. Throughout her career, she has focused on improving rehabilitative care standards for head & neck cancer patients, working with the American Speech, Language & Hearing Association to improve training standards and clinical practice guidelines within this population. She is currently the Director of Medical Speech Pathology services for Texas Health Care where she has developed and now maintains a very active Head & Neck rehabilitation program, including the largest laryngectomy support group in North Texas. In 2010, she founded a non-profit organization, The North Texas Laryngectomy Society, which serves to benefit laryngeal cancer survivorship. In 2011, she launched PracticalSLPinfo.com, a comprehensive interactive website resource for topics within medical speech pathology. In 2013, she published The Modern Laryngectomy which serves as the only comprehensive text on laryngectomy care and rehabilitation. Katrina also conducts practices and research surrounding gastroesophageal/laryngopharyngeal reflux and radiation care for swallow preservation as it pertains to our patient population. She currently is grant funded through a Cancer Prevention & Research collaboration with MD Anderson, to investigate radiation care within the head & neck population. Throughout her career, Katrina has lectured extensively in the fields of laryngectomy rehabilitation as well as medically based voice & swallowing disorders. She’s known both nationally and internationally for her expertise in these fields and frequently provides consultative services to similar programs, both in the US as well as abroad.
