Participants will receive a special glow in the dark prize. Open to all fitness levels. Rain date: Thursday, June 10. Fee: $8 Ages: 12 and up 10200 Johns Island County Park Concert Series: Mystic Vibrations Johns Island County Park at Show Area Saturday, June 5, 6 – 9:30 p.m. Charleston County Parks is hosting a reggae music night concert at Johns Island County Park. 10x10 squares will be available on a first come, first served basis upon arrival. No more than four guests are allotted per square. You are encouraged to bring your own tables and chairs to set up in your square. Please be prepared to carry all items to your square from your parking spot. Enjoy music by the reggae band Mystic Vibrations. Food vendors will be on-site and alcohol will be available for purchase. Enjoy the spray play, race down the slides, and take a dip in the pool. Fee: $4 ages 3 and up Ages: any 10497 Virtual Inclusive Dance Party Online with the Charleston County Parks – Virtual Program Saturday, June 12, 6 – 7 p.m. Social distancing? So are we! And since you can't come to the party, we're bringing the party to you! Dress up in your favorite summer or luau inspired apparel or accessories. Join us for a Virtual Inclusive Dance Party where everyone is invited for fun, friends, and great music via Zoom. On your computer? Make sure you have a webcam! On your smart phone? Fee: Free Ages: Any 9966 Summer Solstice Yoga Fest James Island County Park Thursday, June 17, 6 – 8 p.m. The Summer Solstice is a time to reconnect with each other and nature as the sun rises to the highest point in the sky. Join us to celebrate summer and community in this flowing yoga class, open to all levels and abilities. Guests will enjoy beer, wine, shaved ice for kids, and live music by reggae sensation, Mystic Vibrations. Want dinner? We’ve got you covered. Bohemian Bull will be selling wraps on-site for an additional charge. Admission includes yoga class, T-shirt, adult beverages, and shaved ice. Live music begins at 6pm, and yoga begins at 6:30pm. A kid’s yoga class will be offered concurrently. Charleston Sprint Triathlon Series Race #2 James Island County Park Sunday, June 20, 7 – 11 a.m. Celebrating its 30th year, this five-race series includes a 600 yard swim, a 12-mile bike ride, and a 5K run. Participants are divided into: Open / Elite, Age Group and Masters, Clydesdale (men 220 pounds or greater under the age of 40), Masters Clydesdale (men 220 pounds or greater over the age of 40), and Athena (women 165 pounds or greater). Fee: $55 Ages: 12 and up 8084 Virtual Inclusive Yoga Online with the Charleston County Parks – Virtual Program Wednesday, June 23, 6 – 7 p.m. Adapted for youth ages 12-18 with cognitive and/or physical challenges and their families, participants will engage in yoga activities that focus on breath, laughter, movement, and stillness. Our trek through many distinct habitats will allow us to view and discuss a variety of birds, butterflies, and other organisms. A paid chaperone is required for participants ages 15 and under. Every Wednesday and Saturday, 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Registration is not required. Participants are encouraged to bring own binoculars. Max. 10 participants. Birding Counting on Nature Johns Island County Park: Wednesday, June 2 and June 23, 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. James Island County Park: Wednesday, June 9 and June 30, 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. Palmetto Islands County Park: Wednesday, June 16, 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. Please join us in our ongoing effort to use citizen science platforms as a way to catalogue the life in your parks. We will photograph and record what we can, then report those observations to applications to create inventories for future use. You will learn directly from our experienced naturalists about nature around you and how to use citizen science on your own to contribute to conservation and further your knowledge base. We'll practice some fun balance drills, improve stroke technique, and learn more safety skills. This fun class is a great prep for paddling in more challenging conditions. Fee: $30 Ages: 16 and up Learn to SUP Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP): Beyond Essentials James Island County Park Sundays, June 6, 13, 20 and 27, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. This fun and relaxed class will get you started with instruction on safety and the proper paddling technique that will allow you to progress comfortably at your own pace. Using a variety of boats, this entry-level course teaches you the basic strokes and skills to have fun on the water! Fee: $45 Ages: 16 and up Learn to Kayak Beyond the Essentials of Kayaking: Assisted and Self Rescues James Island County Park Sundays, June 13 and 27, 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. We will teach the basic components necessary to perform efficient rescues from classic textbook rescues to improvisational methods that work in all environments. Recommended for paddlers looking to gain independence and confidence in their paddling ability. Fee: $55 Ages: 16 and up Learn to Kayak Daily Programs Your Parks, Your Classroom: Estuary Exploration (a.m.) Online with Charleston County Parks – Virtual Program Tuesdays, June 1, 10 – 11 a.m. Your Parks, Your Classroom is a virtual, education series for students interested in learning about habitats, flora, and fauna found in the Charleston County Parks. Join us May through June on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. from your screen and make your parks your classroom. This program series is free to attend thanks to the generous support of the Charleston County Parks Foundation. In this installment, we explore the estuaries found in Charleston and learn about some of the amazing creatures that call these "cribs" home.
