Joann Johnson Returned to UMD (Worked at UMD from 54-57) Her Story Tonight the "her story" of UMD Women's Athletics is being remembered and honored. Twenty-five years ago, a group of women faculty members put their energies and love of sport into the development of the UMD Women's Athletic Program. Today, we are a nationally ranked NCAA II and NAIA University. We offer young women the opportunity to compete in eight sports: cross country, volleyball, basketball, skiing, track & field, tennis, softball, golf. The women who scheduled and played those first games drove their own cars, packed meals and washed those first uniforms, have continued to be a part of the growth of women's athletics at UMD. I've had the privilege and honor to work with Ellie, Mary and Jo and several other coaches here at UMD these past sixteen years. The excitement continues to radiate from them as they encourage and support our women athletes of today. Thank you for the "her story" we can look at today as we continue to grow and become.
