The new Board will be elected at the Annual General Meeting on July 19, 2015. While a lot more work needs to be done, the Board has accomplished much during the past year. Some of the achievements include: successfully implementing the major kitchen and washroom renovation project, which presented ongoing challenges due to the age and lack of repairs and maintenance of the basic infrastructure and the requirement to upgrade to current building code requirements; bringing about greater harmony within the community; building a closer working relationship with our sister organization to the west; making continued improvements to the property; installing the artifacts donated to us by the Royal Ontario Museum fully funded by donations; introducing the renewed and more user friendly ZSO website; improving the system for sending announcements and urgent messages via voice, text, email, and Facebook; migrating to a fully computerized membership database with storage of all data on the cloud; making constitutional amendments; and renewing and enhancing the monthly newsletter. The Board has also commenced the upgrades to carpeted rooms on the main floor and has plans for improvements to the main hall. It is the Board's mission to encourage increased participation and involvement by our youth. The recent successful youth movie night held at the Darbe Mehr, managed and run by our youth, is testament to their eagerness and abilities. We thank the membership for your trust and confidence in the Board to manage the affairs of the Society. Little would have been accomplished without the unwavering support of the countless volunteers and well-wishers to whom we bow our heads with gratitude and to whom the entire community will remain indebted. Our best wishes to the new Board for the upcoming year. Have an enjoyable and safe summer with family and friends. Religion Classes The Religion Education Classes held its year-end Annual Day function on May 30th. Family and friends gathered to watch the religion class students display their religious knowledge. Presentations included plays on topics such as the Amesha Spentas and the Creation Story, as well as songs from our youngest students. Trophies were presented to the winners of the Elocution Competition held earlier in the year. As well, each participant in the contest received a medal in recognition of his or her effort. These awards were presented to students by our guest of honour, ZSO President Bina Behboodi. A delicious lunch was catered by Nancy Patel. Registration has begun for the following year. Religion Classes provide a unique opportunity for our community’s children not only to meet, but also to learn about the Zoroastrian religion and its traditions. Our goal is to promote an understanding of the religion and to foster a sense of Zoroastrian identity among our students. We hope to see all of our current students and many newcomers in the fall. Please refer to the enclosed enrollment form for registration information. ZSO Constitution Copies of the updated ZSO Constitution and By-laws are now available to members (maximum one copy per household). A copy of the new Code of Conduct is enclosed with this edition of the newsletter. The Constitution, By-laws, and Code of Conduct will also be posted on the zso.org website for members only to view and print. Those members who would like a copy mailed to them may please contact the ZSO Secretary by email at [email protected] or the Vice-President Dara Panthakee at (416) 826-3298. Please include your cheque payable to ZSO for $5 to defray the costs of printing and mailing. We thank the Constitution sub-committee for all their hard work in updating the Constitution and By-laws. shap EDUCATION AND CELEBRATION Calendar of Religious Festivals July 2019 – December 2020 Loy Kratong at the Buddhapadipa Temple in Richmond Park, South London Shap Calendar of Religious Festivals 2019 - 2020 EDITORIAL 2019 – 2020 THE SHAP WORKING PARTY IS NO MORE!!! We informed you last year that it would happen, and it did! The Working Party celebrated its 50th Jubilee with a conference at the Shap Wells Hotel, where our Shappery first began in April 1969. And now the Working Party no longer exists as such. We leave the work it undertook in the hands of others, and give our individual support in a multitude of different forms to all who work for the cause of World Religions in Education. The Calendar will however continue, on line and by post, along with the Shap website and the Shap Audio-Glossary, available on the Shap website, and the Shap Archive in the Bodleian Library in the centre of Oxford ([email protected]). The Calendar is in the hands of a group of twelve members of Shap, led by a team of four of us, Paul Hopkins, David Rose, Roger Butler and myself as Editor. It has developed steadily over its 50 years of its life and we intend that it will continue to grow and change steadily in the future. In particular we have simplified its name, which will now be ‘The Shap Calendar of Religious Festivals’; and ‘Shap Calendar Group’ will be the new name of our bank account, as shown on any invoices we send you in the future.

We reported on many interfaith events - especially those which gave us joy, but also those which caused pain, sadness and concern. Pope Francis’ trips to Morocco and Abu Dhabi, where he signed a joint document on universal fraternity with the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, was a positive and joyful event. So was his speech in Japan against the horrors of war and in favour of peace and reconcilia- tion.

  • Vision July 2018
Vision July 2018 President’s Message “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much” Hellen Keller Last month we had our Annual General Meeting where a new group of eager and dedicated members became directors. We welcome Ruzbeh Rohinton, Rusi Unvala, Jal Panthaky, and Xerxes Madan as Vice President. Continuing on as directors from the previous Board will be Arnavaz Dhabhar, Jeroo Madan, Khushi Doctor and Morvarid Fereidooni. Cyrus Gazdar our Ex-President, will now assume the role as Secretary, Tauzer Dalal will continue as Treasurer, and Neville Patrawala as President. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Cyrus Gazdar for remaining on the board and offer his experience. This is Cyrus’s second term in succession. I would also like to thank Arnavaz Dhabhar, Jeroo Madan, Khushi Doctor, Morvarid Fereidooni and Tauzer Dalal for remaining on the board and continuing to serve as Directors. This is Tauzer’s second term in succession as Treasurer. As you can imagine, community service is a massive undertaking which requires sacrificing personal and family time, yet they have worked as a cohesive group over the last 2 years and steered OZCF to a better place. It was not long ago on the momentous and memorable evening of June 17th, 2016 that we raised, through the magnanimity of our generous donors, an eye-popping $2.24 million for the Atashkadeh project. 2 years hence because of the continuing hard work, dedication and perseverance of our dynamic Place of Worship Advisory Committee we are now very close to building the sanctified place of worship.

The following calendar gives a selection of festivals from the minority faiths in the UK, but it is not comprehensive. The internet has much more information about these faiths and other festivals associated with them. If you search online, you may find dates different to those listed in this calendar. Many festival dates vary due to moon cycles, the country where they are celebrated and people’s personal choice.
