Installation Corkelast® EBS for M2 at full speed! Meeting strict requirements for durability and vibration control

After a period of preparatory work, our contracting partner Gülermak has started the installation of the edilon)(sedra Corkelast® Embedded Block System (EBS) for the 2nd extension of Warsaw Line 2. The first EBS units are in situ installed in the slab track!

The total project includes 20 km of EBS single track, including 8 stations and a technical depot. The newly built metro tunnels will run directly under densely inhabited areas. For this reason, the investor Warsaw Metro set strict requirements for durability and vibration control. The contract includes edilon)(sedra Trackelast® vibration damping PU-mats for the most sensitive noise and vibration mitigation areas and 41 EBS switches and crossings.

Online EBS installation training

Recently, as part of the Warsaw Metro Line 2 project, our Track Services department gave an online EBS installation training to the responsible track construction companies. During the training working methods and various challenges were discussed, such as:

- How to level and align EBS on our Trackelast® STM (Slab Track Mats) - How to realise and secure an accurate track position and gauge with EBS alignment portals - How to pour in situ concrete under and around the aligned EBS trays

Clear working methods are important to ensure safer, faster, more accurate and easier track construction. These training offerings are an important part of our full-service project support: from the very early track design phase to the supply and construction of our track systems.

www.edilonsedra.com Designing your railway project with BIM

Did you know that the edilon)(sedra Application Engineering department can help you apply BIM objects of our rail fastening systems to your BIM project? A fast, accurate and efficient way to design your railway project! We recently applied BIM in projects Valencia line 10 and depot En Chardon.

Valencia line 10 FGV is the first railway administration in which is managing projects applying the BIM philosophy. BIM plays an important role within project ‘Valencia line 10’: a new metro line to be built between the stations of Alicante and Nazaret in Valencia. edilon)(sedra provided BIM models of the Corkelast® ERS track system to the involved project partners. The project ‘Valencia line 10’ is divided in two sections for both of which we supply our Corkelast® ERS (Embedded Rail System):

· Alicante – Amado Granell: a tunnel of 2,5 km of double track · Amado Granell – Nazaret: different track sections, like grass track and This virtual tour of TYPSA & GESMAN gives you a nice impression of the project and the overall application of BIM. bridge track

En Chardon depot For depot project En Chardon in Geneva , we provided our client with a specific working methodology for Corkelast® ERS in switches and supported the planning of the construction. To smoothen planning and construction work the University of Geneva developed a BIM model to avoid building constraints during realization. edilon)(sedra provided BIM elements to support the track realization.

www.edilonsedra.com Facelift railroad bridge Ratswegbrücke in Frankfurt am Main edilon)(sedra is carrying out a number of great projects in during this and the upcoming year. Take for example the pre-stressed concrete bridge Ratswegbrücke in Frankfurt am Main which will get a complete facelift.

During the course of this renovation, the tram tracks will be renewed by our company in 2022. Preparations have already started. In this project we provide the Engineering Services and the Corkelast® Embedded Rail System (ERS) for 163 m of double track.

ERS is the selected system due to its optimum track stability, as heavy traffic loads pass over this busy bridge. Stray current protection is another important argument for ERS. The rails of profile 60R2 will be installed in steel troughs and embedded in elastic Corkelast®. This combination offers a stable interface between the rail system and the adjacent asphalt. More information on this project will follow soon!

Get on theTrack! edilon)(sedra launches podcast series

We are pleased to announce the launch of our Get On The Track podcast series! In our first podcast, you will hear a story about a common problem in metro tunnels: water ingress to the track infrastructure. GET ON For many metro operators, the challenge is to keep an THE TRACK old network alive. They are looking for a suitable solution PODCAST for the refurbishment of worn-out bi-block slab track systems with a need to realize the replacement during Water ingress to track infrastructure in metro tunnels short possession times.

www.edilonsedra.com Complete renewal for an historic steel arch bridge – Kornhausbrücke in Bern Great news! After performing a complete renewal of the tracks on the Kirchenfeldbrücke in 2018, we will now be renovating another one of Bern’s important tram bridges in 2022.

The Kornhausbrücke is a road bridge with embedded tram BTW, did you know the Kornhausbrücke has a Dutch tracks. This historic steel arch sitting 47 m above the river Aare name too? During the European Football Championship was originally built between 1895 and 1898. This new order in 2008, Dutch supporters renamed the bridge to includes the engineering and supply of the Corkelast® ERS for ‘Korenhuisbrug’. Would the residents of Bern like this?! 382 m of double track.

Finch West LRT: brand new transit access to northwest Toronto edilon)(sedra has been selected by Colas Rail Canada, a subcontractor of the Mosaic Transit Group consortium to supply the Corkelast® ERS to embed rails for the mainline track of the new Metrolinx Finch West LRT Line in Toronto, Canada.

The Corkelast® ERS (Embedded Rail System) will be installed in all sections of the track including stations, stops and bridges. Track contractor Colas Rail will carry out the track installation works.

The Finch West LRT Line, which is owned by Metrolinx will be operated by Toronto Transit Commission and maintained by Mosaic Transit Group. When in service, it will provide brand new transit access to the northwest area of Toronto, with connections to the current TTC subway Line 1, as well as York and Peel Regions transit services.

The new line will have 18 stops between Humber College and the Finch West subway station and is planned to be operational in 2023. We will keep you informed! Visual of a future Finch West station portal. Source: Mosaic Transit Group

www.edilonsedra.com A good choice – Corkelast® ERS for Special Structures in ! Together with the RaideJokeri project team, we are working on a series of Special Structures in the area around Helsinki, Finland. These mainly concern bridge constructions with building height restrictions, for which our Corkelast® ERS is ideally suited.

An example of such a Special Structure is the Sello Deck construction in Espoo. This is an ERS bridge deck construction on top of a parking garage. Our ERS is installed in steel channels designed by the edilon)(sedra Application Engineering team. The rail system is incorporated in the bridge superstructure and thereby saves space (shallow construction depth) and offers a cost- effective design.

Veera Koskela, Project Manager of project partner NRCGroup about Sello Deck:

“We have chosen the twin-block sleeper system as our main superstructure at Jokeri Light Rail, but for the Sello Deck structure that would have caused large scale changes on the façade of the neighbouring shopping mall among other challenges. The design work together with edilon)(sedra Application Engineering has fulfilled our expectations both in technical expertise and pro-active co-operation, which is a great thing as such, but essential in an Alliance project with complex challenges.”

Get an insight into our test laboratories …

In order to guarantee the highest possible quality of our rail track systems, our company offers a broad spectrum of technical services. Take for example our state-of-the-art test laboratories, in which we perform various mechanical tests for both internal and external clients.

In the video you can see a “repeated loading test” performed on our Corkelast® EBS (Embedded Block System) according to the requirements of EN 13146-4 and EN 13481-5 regarding track category C.

Smart sensors are applied for fast and precise measurements. To ensure objectivity of our tests, we work closely with certified test institutes and technical universities.

All together a valuable combination of technique, cooperation and quality assurance! Click on the image to start the video
