Nesbitt offers a convincing portrayal of an outwardly ordinary British citizen with a questionable past, that leads the Inspector to suspect that Tony might not quite be the whiter-than-white victim he pretends to be. The production unfolds slowly, with considerable emphasis placed on atmospherics, but each episode ends on a convincing cliff-hanger encouraging viewers to watch even more. The film is set in New Mexico Territory and The Missing notable for the authentic use of the Apache language by various actors, some of whom spent long hours studying it. She is unable to forgive him for abandoning the family and leaving her mother to a hard life and early death. During the battle, Jones fights El Brujo, the one responsible for kidnapping his granddaughter. When Brujo attempts to kill Maggie with a shotgun, Jones sacrifices his life to save his daughter as both he and Brujo fall off a cliff to their deaths. Maggie shoots at the last remaining kidnappers to scare them off. She realizes her father's love for her and finally forgives him. But like other Ron Howard features, the movie is hardly subtle. I saw something in Ms. Blanchett that I have never seen before; she actually became the character from the book and I was moved. After seeing the movie I The Missing the book down it was difficult believe it or not and finished it in six hours. I am wondering why the screen writers changed the final scenes. Don't get me wrong, Ron Howard makes good to great movies this The Missing a solid film from the historical point The Missing view as well but I am left with more questions for him than I feel I will ever get answers.
