The Rev. Donald E. wildmon's Crusade for Censorship, 1977-1989 By Christopher M. Finan "What we are up against is not dirty words and 4irty pictures. It is a phi.losophy of life which seeks to remove the influence of Christians and Christianity from our society. Pornography is not the disease, but merely a visible symptom. It springs from a moral cancer in our society, and it will lead us to destruction if we are unable to stop it." ---The Rev. Donald E. Wildman The Rev. Donald E. Wildmon has always claimed to be an "average guy." When he first came to the attention of the public, he was the leader of a boycott against advertisers who sponsored "sex, violence and profanity" on television. Wildmon insisted that he was not a censor but an outraged private citizen who was exercising his constitutional right to protest. But, Wildmon is not an average citizen. His ambition is to remake American society. Nor is he content with the instruments of change provided by democratic institutions: he advocates the censorship of television, movies, books, and magazines. During his 12-year campaign for censorship, he has tried to suppress: * Television series like "charlie's Angels," "Three's Company," "All in the Family," "Laverne and Shirley," "Love, Sidney," "Taxi, II "WKRP in Cincinnati, II "Hill Street Blues," "Moonlighting," "L.A. Wade," Pete Hamillis "Flesh and Blood," Maya Angelouls "Sister, Sister" and "Portrait of a Rebel: Margaret Sanger;1I * Movies like liThe Last Temptation of Christi" * Magazines like Playboy, Penthouse and Sassy.

Self-Eluders, Shadow Chasers and Lotus-Eaters: the White Man in the Pacific Islands Paul Strona I was—like thousands of others before me, thousands of years ago, as well as now, at this present time, and will be for thousands of years to come, if the world stands long enough— trying to run away from myself or chasing shadows,—these latter, of course, I did not catch, and the former fear I did not realize. — William Diaper, Cannibal Jack, 1928 Nearly everyone in the world knows that the Pacific islands, particularly those of the South Pacific, are the most idyllic places on the face of the earth. Those islands typically have verdant mountains that tower into the blue sky, with perhaps a bit of misty cloud around the peaks. The coastal areas are lush with palm trees and thick groves of every imagin- able type of exotic tropical truit which end only at the edge of the white sand beaches which encircle all of these islands. The lagoons are filled with an abundance of brightly-colored, strange, but delicious, fish. And, of course, beyond the reef is the vast Pacific Ocean that separates us from all of the worldly problems that plague us in our present environment. But even more wonderful are the child-like natives who populate the islands. Not only are they God's most perfectly formed creatures but they are serene in disposition and universally receptive to the whims of Paul Strona, a program budget analyst with the State of Hawaii, holds the MA in Pacific Islands Studies from the University of Hawaii.

Nichols Professor of Communications Associate Dean for Graduates Studies and Research *Signatures are on file in the Graduate School ABSTRACT Competition and diversity are touchstones in media policy, but the relationship between them is not clear despite a great number of studies because even studies dealing with their relationship, did not measure the intensity of competition. This paper investigates the relationship between market competition and program type diversity in the over-the-air television industry. Specifically, market competition is divided into intra-network competition and intra-media competition, i.e. terrestrial television vs. cable TV. Also this paper uses a comprehensive model of program types, with 281 program type categories, which have never been used in previous studies. The results show that program type diversity keeps decreasing over time and intra-network competition has a negative effect on program type diversity. Also, intra- network competition is a more important factor on program type diversity than inter- media competition.

Famous symbologist on a trail of clues tied to the great Dante himself. When Langdon wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia, Inferno teams up with Inferno Brooks, a doctor he hopes will help him recover his Inferno. Together, they race across Europe and against the clock to stop a madman from unleashing a global virus that would Inferno out half of Inferno world's population. Written by Sony Pictures Entertainment. First of all I read the book before watching the film. This seems to be significant on how the reviews are made. Like a few Inferno have mentioned on here, the ending is such a Inferno. The book has brilliant twists but the movie is classic simple happy ending. Imagine leaving the cinema if the movie ended as the book did. The thought provoking debate that would ensue between watchers would be great. The love story between Langdon and Sinskey isn't needed. I found Vayentha's acting poor. I couldn't buy into Sienna's Inferno. Poor acting? I thought people should have died at the end of LOTR and that was over 10 years ago. Too many happy endings for my liking. This movie has betrayed the book to its detriment. Not a happy camper at all. Looking for something to watch?
