16Th FINA World Championships 2015 in Kazan 16th FINA World Championships July 24 - August 9, 2015 QIU BO WINS WORLD TITLE IN 10M PLATFORM FINAL 02.08.2015, 20:50 The diving tournament of the 16th FINA World Championships in Kazan wrapped up SPORT tonight, creating a lot of buzz at the stands. Earning 587 points, a Chinese athlete became the world title holder in the men’s 10m platform event. In the semifinal, Olympic medallist Qui Bo took the lead with the score of 577 points. His teammate fell almost 10 points behind. The third place in the standings was taken by Thomas Daley of Great Britain, who had already won gold with his partner in the mixed team event in Kazan. A lot of experienced athletes were featured in the list of 12 finalists for the 10m platform competition: David Boudia (USA), Sascha Klein (GER), Domonic Bedggood (AUS). Russia, Mexico and China had double chances. The highest DD (4.1) dives were announced by two divers, Ivan Garcia Navarro and Yang Jian. By getting 99 points for the first dive, David Boudia obviously showed himself to be the first and main contender for gold. Chinese divers Qiu Bo and Yang Jian were also on the same good track to the leadership. However, the American athlete looked confident enough and there was a good reason for that. David Boudia, the London 2012 Olympic champion, finished first according to the preliminaries results. On the other hand, he also mentioned that after his failure at Beijing 2008 he’s been paying more attention to the competition itself rather than to the fame and gold medal. By the middle of the event, Qiu Bo suddenly took the lead leaving the American athlete behind with the difference of only 2 points. The French diver moved to the third place but was shortly edged out by Thomas Daley from Great Britain. The successful last dive brought David Boudia closer to Qiu Bo, placing him second, whereas the third place was split between Thomas Daley and Ivan Garcia Navarro. Placings of the final three medallists on the podium were an obvious result of the athletes’ performance during all the rounds of the competition. FINA Worlds 2015. Diving. Men. 10m platform 1. 16th FINA World Championships July 24 - August 9, 2015 PATRICK HAUSDING: THE FINA WORLDS IS OUR LUCKY TICKET TO RIO 2016 24.07.2015, 15:53 Renowned German divers Sascha Klein and Patrick Hausding are the main SPORT candidates for gold. After the training session at the Aquatics Palace the athletes shared their thoughts about opponents and expressed their attitude towards the mixed duets. Germany had not made the podium approximately for 40 years up until Barcelona 2013 where their duet Sascha Klein and Patrick Hausding claimed gold medal in the 10m platform event. Two years in a row, at Shanghai 2011 and Barcelona 2013 Sasha Klein rounded out the podium in third in individual dives coming after US diver David Boudia and tireless Chinese athlete Qiu Bo. Patrick Hausding, who earned Beijing 2008 silver together with Sascha Klein, successfully performs in springboard and platform events. Their duet is an example of collaborative work of two mature independent athletes. The European Championships certainly prove that. – Who do you think is your main opponent? S.K.: As for the synchronised diving I guess athletes from China, Mexico, Cuba (all of them are definitely good at synchronised routine), Russia as well. As for Individual diving China, the USA, Russia, Ukraine. – What dives are you focusing on more right now? S.K.: On both of them. Synchronised diving is scheduled on Sunday, thus there will be a week left to get ready for the individual ones. – Once you’ve said your heart fills with joy when everyone wins except for Chinese athletes. P.H.: I am a pretty unbiased person.
