Height-Safety-Centre-Kendal The National Access and Rescue Centre Products, training and operational support services for professional work at height and rescue Location Map - Kendal LA9 6NH By Road From the South: Leave M6 at J36 on A590, signposted to Kendal and South Lakes. Continue for 6 miles past Kendal South exit, until end of carriageway at roundabout. Turn at roundabout signed Kendal North and continue 1.5m into Kendal. Follow signs for A6 Shap and Penrith North. Keep left under railway bridge, you should now be on Shap Rd. Pass the Mintsfeet Industrial Estate , pass the Gulf garage on left. You should now be able to see Lake District Business Park Clock Tower on the Mint Bridge Business Park which can be accessed via Mint Bridge Road, West Gate entrance. From the North Leave M6 at J39 Shap. Head south towards Kendal on A6 for 12 miles. As you enter Kendal the training centre is located on the 3rd right hand turning onto Mint Bridge Road. You should now be able to see Lake District Business Park Clock Tower on the Mint Bridge Business Park which can be accessed via Mint Bridge Road, West Gate entrance. The Buildings & Parking As you drive down Mint Bridge Road you will clearly see the Clock Tower is the main training centre, with training reception Take 2nd right West Gate entrance onto the business park before the Heinz factory. Please drive to the end of the estate and turn left where you will find a large car park. By Rail The west coast mainline station Oxenholme which is approx. 2 miles by taxi. Please advise the taxi driver you require the Mint Bridge Business Park where the Climbing Wall or the old Farley’s factory is based. On approach to the estate you should now be able to see Lake District Business Park Clock Tower. Access the estate via Mint Bridge Road, West Gate entrance and arrive at Unit 1. On Arrival at Site Please report to Unit 1 Training Reception to register on your course. Work to commence in April and finish circa July 2012. Work will stop for the Olympic Torch event on 21 June 2012. • Invest in South Lakeland website on track. There will be a ‘soft launch’ followed by a formal launch in March. The explore South Lakeland site, which is for local people will be launched in April. • The Invest in South Lakeland Website will include an e newsletter which will be sent to businesses on a monthly basis. • Work has begun on planning for the Invest in South Lakeland Conference to be held in March 2013. • The first business liaison meeting will be held at the Carus Green Golf club on 22 March 2012. The main topics are: BT and superfast broadband and Invest in South Lakeland website and conference. • The first Business Forum of 2012 was held in February (for businesses over 50 employees) The main theme of the event was transport and speakers were invited from Virgin Trains, Lakes Line. The meeting was well received. The next event will be in May. • An application has been submitted for the Rural Growth Network for three potential sites in South Lakeland: Marl, Ulverston; Clawthorpe Hall, Burton in Kendal and Sedbergh. The Cumbria proposal has been shortlisted from 30 down to a final 10, and it is anticipated that we will know in the next few weeks if the Cumbrian bid has been successful.

    The Outdoor Partnership Cumbria: Needs, challenges and opportunities Preliminary report of research conducted with stakeholder and user groups July 2020 David Harvey 1 Executive Summary The Outdoor Partnership in Cumbria offers an opportunity to increase participation in outdoor activity. The research showed that there is a strong belief amongst providers, teachers, commissioners and stakeholders in the importance and value of time and outdoor and adventurous activities in the natural environment for mental and physical health, personal development and broadening horizons. Young people from Copeland who were surveyed also expressed an interest in taking part in outdoor activities. Challenges The research unearthed the following societal barriers, which programmes aiming to increase participation should consider: • Attitudes to physical activity and historical/cultural non participation in outdoor activity • A non-outdoor mindset • Limited public transport • Poverty and disposable income • Lack of awareness of opportunities • Lack of joined up approach to delivery • Limited existing sector capacity to deliver increased provision The development of a local economy that is less reliant on Sellafield is a priority for Copeland Borough Council. Related to this, it is widely believed that young people will need to develop the skills to be able to deal with the challenges associated with an uncertain world of work.
