Miami Dolphins RB KARIM ABDUL-JABBAR Leads the NFL FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 6, 2015 http://twitter.com/NFLFootballInfo THE WEEK THAT WAS – WEEK 4 Following are highlights from the first quarter of the 2015 NFL season: NFL MILESTONES CLOSE GAMES: Eight of the 15 games (53.3 percent) in Week 4 were decided by three points or fewer, the most in a single week since Week 3 of 2011 (nine). The eight games decided by three points or fewer in Week 4: WINNING TEAM OPPONENT SCORE Baltimore Pittsburgh* 23-20 (OT) Chicago* Oakland 22-20 Denver* Minnesota 23-20 Indianapolis* Jacksonville 16-13 (OT) St. Louis Arizona* 24-22 San Diego* Cleveland 30-27 Seattle* Detroit 13-10 Washington* Philadelphia 23-20 * Home team IT’S STILL EARLY: In the first four weeks of 2015, 31 of the 32 clubs (96.9 percent) earned at least one win. The 31 teams with at least one victory through Week 4 is the most through four games since realignment in 2002. EFFICIENT TIMES: Through Week 4, the league-wide passer rating is 91.2, on pace for the highest of any season in NFL history (88.9 in 2014). The mark is also the second-highest of any NFL season through four weeks (91.5 in 2014). Through Week 4, the league-wide interception percentage is 2.3 percent, the lowest ever at this point in a season and on pace for the all-time best (2.5 in 2014). PASS FRENZY: NFL quarterbacks threw 43 touchdown passes in Week 4, bringing the season total to 200. The 200 touchdown passes are the second-most TD passes through the first four weeks of any season in NFL history. The record is 205 in 2013. TEAMS UNDEFEATED: Six NFL teams – ATLANTA (4-0), CAROLINA (4-0), CINCINNATI (4-0), DENVER (4-0), GREEN BAY (4-0) and NEW ENGLAND (3-0) – are undefeated through Week 4. The five 4-0 teams are tied for the most in NFL history (1968, 2003, 2009 and 2013). New England – who had a bye in Week 4 – is 3-0 and, with a win on Sunday at Dallas, can be the sixth team to start the season 4-0 which would be the most in a season in NFL history. CRUISING COLTS: The INDIANAPOLIS COLTS defeated Jacksonville 16-13 in overtime in Week 4, marking their 15th consecutive division victory, which ties the 1972-73 Miami Dolphins for the longest streak since 1970. Indianapolis’ active win streak against AFC South opponents began on December 30, 2012, when the Colts earned a 28-16 win against Houston. PLAYERS CLIMBING THE CHARTS: In Week 3, New England quarterback TOM BRADY passed for 358 yards and two touchdowns in the Patriots’ 51-17 win against Jacksonville, bringing his career total to 401 touchdown passes. New Orleans quarterback DREW BREES passed for 359 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning 80- yard touchdown pass in overtime, in the Saints’ 26-20 win against Dallas in Week 4. Brees now has 400 career touchdown passes, joining PEYTON MANNING (536), BRETT FAVRE (508), Pro Football Hall of Famer DAN MARINO (420) and Brady (401) as the only players to throw 400 touchdown passes. MILESTONE MANNING: Denver quarterback PEYTON MANNING passed for 213 yards and one touchdown in the Broncos’ 23-20 win against Minnesota in Week 4. Manning earned his 100th win at home as a starter, joining BRETT FAVRE (113) as the only quarterbacks to win at least 100 home starts. This season marks the seventh time Manning has led his team to a 4-0 start to begin a season, the most of any starting quarterback in NFL history. Pro Football Hall of Famer FRAN TARKENTON is the only other starting quarterback to lead his team to at least four 4-0 starts. The quarterbacks with the most 4-0 starts: PLAYER 4-0 STARTS TO A SEASON Peyton Manning 7 Fran Tarkenton 4 Many tied 3 FLYING FREEMAN: Atlanta running back DEVONTA FREEMAN rushed for three touchdowns in the Falcons’ 48-21 win over Houston in Week 4. Freeman, who rushed for three touchdowns last week in his first career start in Atlanta’s win at Dallas, is the only player since at least the 1970 merger to rush for at least three touchdowns in each of his first two career starts. Freeman, who leads the NFL with seven rushing touchdowns, is the first player to rush for at least seven TDs in his team’s first four games to start a season since LA DAINIAN TOMLINSON (eight) in 2005. RISING RAM: St. Louis rookie running back TODD GURLEY, who made his NFL debut in Week 3 after being drafted 10th overall in the 2015 NFL Draft, rushed for 146 yards in the Rams’ 24-22 victory at Arizona in Week 4. Over the past 25 years, only Oakland’s DARREN MC FADDEN (164 yards in his second game in 2008) and Tampa Bay’s CADILLAC WILLIAMS (148 yards in his debut in 2005) have rushed for more yards in either of their first two career games. POUNCING PANTHER: Carolina cornerback JOSH NORMAN had two interceptions, including a 46-yard touchdown return, in the Panthers’ 37-23 win at Tampa Bay in Week 4. Norman, who had a 30-yard interception-return touchdown in Week 1, is the first cornerback with two interception-return touchdowns in his team’s first four games to begin a season since CHARLES WOODSON (2008). BOOTING HISTORY: Indianapolis kicker ADAM VINATIERI converted all three field goal attempts, including the 27- yard game winner in overtime, and one PAT for a total of 10 points against the Jaguars. Vinatieri, who scored 1,158 points in 10 seasons with New England (1996-2005), has now scored 1,004 points for Indianapolis and is the first player in NFL history to score at least 1,000 points with two different teams. Vinatieri has now connected on 481 career field goals, surpassing JOHN CARNEY (478) for the fourth-most in NFL history. # # # .
