Grande Ecole du Droit International and comparative legal studies

An international curriculum in Law 2014/2015

In partnership with Member of Ernst & Young Global Limited Editorial from Véronique Magnier, Professor of Law Director of la Grande Ecole du Droit, Director of the Master 2 Business, Tax & Financial law -Saclay University

As senior high school students, you will have to make a choice to identify universities where you would pursue your higher education.

Five years ago, I had the will to create a selective & international program for law students. This was meant to allow students to both express their autonomy and, at the same time, prepare them to spend a year in a university abroad and attending an internationally recognized training in law, the LLM degree, preparing in parallel their Master 1 in Business and financial law.

La Grande Ecole du Droit” developed both on the US model of teaching through scholastic education and the French model of the “Grandes Ecoles” regarding its selectivity, the practice of foreign languages, and also the professionalization gained through our partnerships with an internationally recognized law firm, and reinforced by the unique quality of university education in legal disciplines.

Within these couple of pages, you will discover some aspects of this project. We know that presentation document might still not meet your expectations. Therefore, with our representatives of the students’ association, our professors and our partner “EY Société d’avocats”, I stand at your disposal for further information and exchange with your teaching team, counselors, and parents and help you understand our curriculum. A word from the educational director, Pauline Abadie, Lecturer at l’Université Paris-Sud

The International mobility of students is not only a wish of most Universities, but now a priority for which we are deploying our best efforts. This is a mission our professors are extremely invested in. We want to create a tailored environment for worldwide students but also prepare them to go abroad.

My conviction is even broader because of my personal and professional experience

Student and then teacher in the US, I use my knowledge of the academic system to develop cooperation with some of the best Law Schools not only in North America but everywhere around the globe.

As a member of the education team of the “Grande Ecole du Droit” in which I teach American Law, in English, the major issue I face is the introduction to the students of an interactive and critic learning of Law. We can also call it an “Anglo-Saxon” way of learning, which is required for transnational practice of Law today.

The “Grande Ecole du Droit”, managed by Professor Magnier, is one of the leading courses for international mobility. This formation helps promote our faculty abroad and is a real asset for the establishment of cooperation.

I hope that your commitment to excellence will meet the requirements for this degree. La Grande Ecole du Droit in a nutshell

The development of a law firm like ours, today second on the French market by its size, and first international network in terms of contribution from business and tax law careers with a turnover from a multidisciplinary network, happens through quality and commitment of its employees. Also their training in the early years at the University, is a strategic challenge to enable us to recruit talent with a the strong international culture and a grand openness "to difference", beyond technical excellence in business law, tax or employment law. Furthermore, we work a lot with companies and the Institutions and know that jobs, other than the profession of lawyer, also allow living with passion these legal matters, while asking the same cultural and technical agility. Finally, as an employer to staff from the University and the Grandes Ecoles de Commerce, we have learned over time what might be the advantages of each study course and have realized how much it was difficult to develop a pedagogical ideal approach, with a cost suitable to all talents. Also, when the students of the Grande Ecole du Droit association came to meet us, we had, for the first time, the opportunity to work with them right from their first year after high school, with an exceptional teaching team who pursued an socially open educational project, which was very close to ours. Indeed, currently, the only existing programs on the French market concern students at a Masters level, therefore years of license being "lost" to increase employability.. It was therefore natural to bring to these future talents, with excellent studies, the tools that would allow them to grow professionally, as the Grandes Ecoles do, to arm them with "soft skills" and initiatives opportunities, which combined with the autonomy necessary to "survive" in a University, would make them law experts sought by our customers, our network in 140 countries and our colleagues.
