TIPS FOR IMPROVING VIDEO STREAM

If you’re having trouble with lag, buffering or other issues with the online video stream, try some of the items below, which may improve streaming performance. Please note that while these items are considered appropriate solutions for optimizing video streams, none of them are guaranteed to solve your issue.

1) Ensure your browser and operating system are up-to-date. The following browsers are recommended for optimal viewing of a Vimeo live stream: a. Chrome 30+ (has automatic updates) b. Firefox 27+ (has automatic updates) c. Microsoft Edge d. Safari 9+ Additionally, operating systems of Windows 8 or later or macOS Sierra (10.12.6) or later are recommended. PLEASE NOTE: Vimeo streaming is not supported on Samsung browsers. It is recommended that you download Google Chrome for this purpose.

2) Check your download speed. Download speeds can fluctuate based on a number of factors, and could impact stream performance. HD video streaming requires a minimum download speed of about 10 mbps. Click here (https://www.speedtest.net/) to run a speed test via SpeedTest.net and see what yours is. Please note that your streaming quality may be adjusted based on your download speed; if your connection is less than 10 mbps, you may see video in a lower resolution. Tips for improving performance are listed below.

3) Improve your . The following are a few common items that could lead to a reduction in network performance. Minimizing these items and following these suggested solutions will help to optimize your computer’s internet connection. a. Remove high- items from your network. If there are other devices using large amounts of bandwidth on your network, it could be negatively affecting your video stream’s performance. This includes, but is not limited to: video streaming such as YouTube, Netflix, or Hulu; online gaming; video conferencing such as Zoom, Skype or Facetime; or large downloads of movies or games. b. Plug directly into your home internet. If possible, connect to your home internet router via an Ethernet connection. While Wi-Fi is often more convenient, an Ethernet connection will provide a stronger, more stable connection to enhance your video streaming capabilities. If an Ethernet connection is unavailable, be sure to move as close to your wi-fi router as possible to ensure a strong connection. c. Stop other programs running in the background. If your computer is running other programs in the background, it could be affecting your ability to stream video. Make sure that your web browser is the ONLY program open to allow for an optimal connection.

4) Try GoToWebinar. If Vimeo continues to give you issues, citizens are free to join a meeting via the GoToWebinar video conferencing platform. This option also allows for citizens to use the “raise hand” feature to make public comments during various public hearing items.
