Profile PDF Download Here Manjusha Patil A skillful blend of aesthetics & melody Born in Sangli (a small town in Maharashtra), known for its origin to several music maestros. Manjusha’s parents being great music lovers, identified the inborn talent and encouraged Manjusha for a career in music. She started her initial training from Pt. Chintubua Mhaiskar. Alongwith a “Sangeet Visharad” from Akhil Bharatiy Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Miraj - Manjusha acquired a Bachelors degree in Hindi followed by a Masters degree in Music with a Gold Medal to her credit from Shivaji University, Kolhapur. She has been a consistent winner of many prestigious music competitions. During one such competition, Late Sangeetacharya Pt. D.V. Kanebua of Ichalkaranji happened to see Manjusha singing and noticed her rich potential, which proved to be a turning point in her career. Then being in the Gurukul tradition under Pt. Kanebua, she was fortunate to absorb the authentic nuances of Agra and Gwalior Gharana. She received further training from Late Pt. Narendra Kanekar, a senior disciple of Pt. Kanebua and then also from Dr. Vikas Kashalkar. Currently Manjusha is honing her advanced skills under the able guidance of Padmashree Gantapasvi Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar. Manjusha is gifted with a mellifluous voice which she has further enhanced by mastering sustenance of swaras, aesthetic approach, creative thinking, perfection of sur & command on rhythmic aspects. With purity in exposition of Raga, complex patterns of 'Taan' rendered with speed & clarity - Manjusha is equally adept in Semi Classical Music like Thumri, Dadra, Abhang and Natya Sangeet. All these elements constitute her delightful performances. Though as a truly dedicated musician, she is constantly in the quest of excellence through perseverance but a rich portfolio of prestigious national and international concerts & the awards bestowed on her are a clear testimony of Manjusha’s successful footsteps in the world of music. www.swarmanjusha.com Some prestigious performances- Sawai Gandharva Mahotsav, Pune in 1998 and 2002 Sawai Gandharva Mahotsav, Kundgole Tansen Samaroha, Gwalior, 2005, 2014 Alla Uddin Khan Saheb Academy, Bhopal All Bengal Music Festival, Kolkata Malhar Festival, Nehru Centre, Mumbai. • Chapter IV Agra Gharana and Main Figures
Chapter IV Agra gharana and main Figures The word Agra immediately brings to mind the Taj Mahal, however, Agra is equally famous for an illustrious Gharana of Hindustani classical music, whose distinguished exponents and teachers have imparted the muse to countless disciples over the centuries. The musicians played pivotal role in mass promotion of Indian classical Music through varieties of creative artistic activities. From performance to tutoring, administration to musicology, composers of Ragas and Bandishes and many more. The Researcher has identified three major contributor musicians and a few more, mostly from twentieth century. 4:1 Faiyaz Khan (1881-1950) - an unparalleled musician of the 20th century Faiyaz Khan is still popularly known and remembered as the 'Mehfil ka Badshah' (the king of musical concerts), by those who heard him live or through recordings. On the stage he was the symbol of a dignified personality, always clad in a silk Sherwani, his chest blazing with rows of sparkling Golden and other medals and chains, a complete with an spick and span turban. Flanked by his disciples on both sides, together with instrumental accompaniment, he sang with a deep, masculine, sonorous, resonant voice, all in keeping with his grand stage presence. Among series of many titles and awards that he received, just the Aftab-e-Mousiqui (Sun of Music) alone testifies to the musical phenomenon that he was, and the magical and musical spell he cast over his audience whenever he performed1. He was an unparalleled artiste, in the sense he was acclaimed by his seniors, his contemporaries and even followed by the junior artists2.
