The Forum’s fourth meeting (4th ISEA) was held in Chiang Rai, Thailand in December 2018. During the meeting, industry stakeholders expressed that, in Phase 1, they were hopeful that 10 out of a total of 19 MRA priority regulations would be implemented as soon as possible. The remaining 9 regulations are expected to be harmonized once timelines have been agreed to by government officials. During the meeting, MRA vehicle type definitions, test report formats, and worst-case scenarios were also discussed and considered. Members acknowledged the critical nature of cooperation between government and industry, and noted the importance of the ASEAN MRA and Conformity of Production (COP) as key steps towards ultimate 1958 agreement/ IWVTA accession. The fourth ISEA Report was also officially reported to the 4th JASIC Forum for South East Asia, with the latter receiving significant ASEAN and Japanese regulatory participation.
