Peru – Manu Biosphere 10 days tour – October 2015 Peru Birding Tours Bird Guide: Jesus Cieza Day by Day Activities Day 01 (October 26th) After setting up the departure time a night before in Cusco, today we started with a long way to Wayquecha Station, but before we stopped at Wacarpay Lake for the endemics bird’s species, getting nice shots from Bearded Mountaneer, Rusty Fronted Canastero and a lucky morning with a really close view of Andean Tinamou. Then we continued our trip to then stopped halfway to get some other birds like Black billed shrike tyrant, Peruvian sierra finch, large group of 6 Andean Flicker (first time I had seen that number). Some others like Bar Winged Cinclodes, Black faced Ibis and Andean Lapwing. Day 02 (October 27th) Once at Wayquecha Station we had an early birding start getting some cool birds like Andean Guan, White Throated Hawk, Rufous Capped Thornbill and others to then come back for breakfast packed and be ready for our next stop at Cock of the Rock Lodge, after lunch we went down the road and got some more birds like Golden Headed Quetzal, Barred Parakeet and some others. Blue Banded Toucanet along the Manu Road Day 03 (October 28th) Early birding just around Cock of the Rock Lodge to identify the hummingbird species that come to the feeders and some other birds like Eastern Wood Pewee, Jungas Manakin, buff throatred Saltator and we also got a cool view of Small Billed Eleania.we also had the lucky shot of juvenile Black and Chesnut Eagle. That afternoon we visited the popular place for Peru’s National Bird, Cock of the Rock Leck getting a nice view and cool pictures of them. Andean cock of the rock Day 04 (October 29th) Having a relaxed breakfast enjoying the Hummingbirds from the breakfast table we then picked up our luggages and we headed further down to Amazonia Lodge, but of course with some stops on the way for some birds like Violaceous Jay, Bamboo Antshrike, Stripe chested Antwren Plus cool photo of Lanceolated Monklet and Blue Fronted Lancebill. Lunch at Pilcopata Village Day 05 (October 30th) Having the very beginning of Flat Amazon Rainforest we did a short walk to the Platform around the Lodge getting Military Macaw and female Amazonian Umbrella Bird plus cool view of Great Potoo. Day 06 (October 31th) A very cool boat rides to Manu Wild Life Center getting nice birds like Southern Caracara, Purplish Jay, Drab Water Tyrant, Razor Billed Curasow, Sunbittern and some others cool birds. Southern Caracara along Madre de Dios River Day 07 (October 01st) We walk around some trails by the Lodge and got Curl Crested Aracari, Variegated Tinamou some Canopy Birds at the Tower like Blue Dacnis, Bare Necked Fruitcrow, Green Honeycreeper, Cobalt Winged Parakeet. Back to the trails got some more like Pygmy Antwren, Fasciated Antshrike, White Necked Thrush and lucky view of Rose Fronted Parakeet. Day 08 (October 02th) Early start to visit the Macaw Clay Lick and do some Lake’s Birds, beatifull day with huge number of Red and Green Macaws, blue and Yellow Macaw, Blue Headed Parrot, Mealy Parrot, Orange Cheecked Parrot and a nice little group of Amazonian Parrolet. Gray breasted Crake and Pale Eyed Blackbird to fill the spectacular day ¡¡ Day 09 (October 03th) Another birding day by boat along the river with some birds like Great Black Hawk, Zone Tailed Hawk, Black Caracara and Orinoco Goose to then take a car to get to Puert Maldonado with some stops for birds on the way too. Beautifull day with very Lucky view of White Tailed Hawk and Gray Hawk. Once at Puerto Maldonado we had our last Supper toguether at Burgo’s Restaurant celebrating a cool 10 days birding tour with Pisco Sour on the table ¡¡ White-thighed Swallow (new for Jesus) Bare-necked Fruitcrow SouthernSouthern Caracara Caracara Bare-neacked Fruitcrow Day 10 (October 04th) Last morning birding around Puerto Maldonado at La Cachuela Road with extra birds like Rusty Margined Flycatcher, Purus Jacamar, Long Tailed Tyrant, Horned Screamer, White Throated Jacamar and so many others. We finish our last birding walk and we headed back to the Hotel to pick up our staff and go to the airport and say bye to Birds of Peru. Many authors from Meyer de Schauensee ( 1970 )to Dckinson (2003 ), have treated andium as a sub specie of A. flavirostris. Anas andium was considered a separate species from Anas flavirostris by Ridgely et al. (2001), and this was followed by Hillty (2003). SAAC proposal passed to recognize Andium as separate species. Jaramillo (2003) further suggested that the subspecies oxyptera may also deserve recognition asa a separate species from A. flavirostris.
