Music Reading Read the passage, the e-mail and the festival guide. The Glastonbury Festival is an unforgettable sight. For three days, 280 hectares of peaceful farm country in the beautiful Somerset Valley become a vast, colourful tent city. The Glastonbury Festival is Britain's largest outdoor rock concert, and it attracts crowds of more than 100,000 people. It has six separate stages for musicians to play on. It has eighteen markets where fans can buy things. It has its own daily newspaper and is even broadcast live on television. It also raises large amounts of money for several charities, including Greenpeace and the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. Glastonbury is just one of many events on the international music festival calendar each year. For dance music fans, there's Creamfields, the Essential Festival and Homelands - all in the UK. Rock fans have Roskilde Festival in Denmark, Fuji Rock and Summer Sonic in Japan, and the Livid Festival and the Big Day Out in Australia. And the crowds just keep getting bigger. In fact, the size of some of these festivals is causing problems. Since the deaths of nine people at Roskiide in 2000 and the death of a young woman at the 2001 Big Day Out, festival organisers and local police have been working together to make sure festival-goers stay safe. Despite these tragic events, festivals are more popular than ever. And it's not just about the music. It's about making new friends and partying non-stop for days at a time. It's about dancing till you can't stand up anymore and then crashing in someone else's tent. -

Mills Abstract Abstract Utility-scale wind projects are increasingly being developed in rural areas of the United States. In the West in particular, many of the Native American reservations have large areas of windy lands suitable for large-scale wind projects. A number of these tribes are interested in developing wind projects on their land for the purpose of economic development. The aim of this project is to show how wind energy projects on tribal lands can benefit economic development. Further, the project will explore the role of tribal decisions and federal incentives on the feasibility of a project. Although a number of studies have investigated the total impact of wind energy projects on rural economies, no comprehensive study has been carried out for a tribal wind energy project. Tribal wind energy projects are different than other rural wind projects in a number of important ways. The tribe has the option of becoming more than a simple landowner by participating in a project as a partner with an outside investment company or by developing the project on their own. -

Since we submitted our last progress report on August 4, 2019, we have completed a number of activities to advance our plan. We detailed our progress in the enclosed report. Our Tribal Consultation Workgroup met regularly to review our consultation policies and outreach efforts. We continue to work closely with tribal leaders through our communication, education, and outreach activities. Beginning in March 2020, we altered our outreach efforts because of the National Emergency related to the COVID-19 pandemic. We continue to use alternate methods of communication to keep the tribal communities informed and aware of how to access Social Security benefits. American Indian and Alaska Native Veterans: 2017 May 2020 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY American Indian and Alaska Native (AIAN) Veterans have played a vital role in the United States military for over two hundred years. This report provides comprehensive statistics on AIAN Veterans through an examination of demographic, socioeconomic, and health status statistics. The report uses the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2017 American Community Survey (ACS) Public Use Microdata Sample (PUMS) data and U.S. Veterans Eligibility Trends and Statistics, 2017. The report was prepared by the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) National Center for Veterans Analysis and Statistics. AIAN Veteran Analysis • AIAN Veterans comprised 88.7 percent men and 11.3 percent women. The proportion of Female AIAN Veterans was higher than that of Female Veterans of other races (11.3% vs. 9.0%, respectively). • AIAN Veterans were more likely to live in the West region of the United States than Veterans of other races (40.3% vs. 22.3%, respectively). • AIAN Veterans’ median age was 59 while the median age for Veterans of other races was 64. The AIAN non-Veterans’ median age was 41. • The AIAN Veteran cohort served in the Pre-9/11 period of service at a higher percentage than Veterans of other races (17.7% vs. 14.0%, respectively). • AIAN Veterans had lower personal incomes than Veterans of other races, and AIAN Veterans had higher personal incomes than AIAN non-Veterans ($29,847, $38,792 and $13,691, respectively). • AIAN Veterans were more likely to have some college compared to Veterans of other races (44.3% vs. -

CORONAVIRUS DISEASE 2019 (COVID-19) SITUATIONAL REPORT #126 SEPTEMBER 09, 2020 DAILY HIGHLIGHTS Globally, COVID-19 cases have surpassed 27.48 million with more than 894,000 deaths. The total number of cases in the U.S. increased from 6,287,362 as reported on Tuesday 9/8/2020 to 6,310,663 reported today. The number of deaths in the U.S. increased from 188,688 to 189,147. The March 2020 CARES Act recognized that tribal governments are confronting extraordinary demands parallel to those faced by state and local governments. As Congress returns from their summer recess to debate additional coronavirus relief packages, the Harvard Kennedy School’s Ash Center and the Harvard Project on American Indian Economic Development will host a diverse panel of Congressional and tribal leaders to look ahead and discuss how Congress might come together on a bipartisan basis to enhance support for Indian Country’s pandemic recovery efforts. Legislation took effect 8/31/2020 that protects many Californians who are unable to pay their rent or mortgage because of the COVID-19 pandemic. View new housing relief HERE. On Monday, August 31, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Ben Carson announced that HUD has awarded a total of $100 million to Tribes across the Nation as part of HUD’s Indian Community Development Block Grant Imminent Threat program (ICDBG-CARES). This funding helps address problems that pose an imminent threat to public health or safety of Tribal residents and will be used to help Tribes prevent, prepare for, and respond to COVID-19. -

Renewable energy can help provide for our future needs by harnessing abundant, naturally occurring sources of energy, such as the sun, the wind, geothermal heat, and biomass. Renewable and alternative energy supplies not only help diversity our energy portfolio; they do so with few adverse environmental impacts. Region 8 has significant potential for wind energy development. States and tribes in this Region are actively engaged in increasing wind energy projects in their areas. In an ongoing effort to accelerate and streamline the development of wind energy resources, and to ensure that human health and the environment are protected as wind energy production continues to increase, EPA Region 8 has adopted this document regarding wind energy development projects. In 2004, Region 8 adopted a regional energy strategy. This strategy sets forth a vision for 2010, which calls for increased energy efficiency and renewable energy as one of four key regional energy goals. australian societa y fo r s music educationm e Transformative music invention: i ncorporated interpretive redesign through music dialogue in classroom practices Michelle Tomlinson Griffith University Abstract In this thematic case study in a rural primary school, young children of diverse socio-cultural origins use transformative and transmodal redesign in music as they explore new conceptual meanings through self-reflexive interaction in classroom music events. A focus on music dialogue created by interaction between modes is seen to promote inclusiveness and transformation of learning. This praxial approach to music learning in the classroom context uncovers hidden dogma used to justify existing structures in the curriculum. In music education in Australia there is still a common failure to acknowledge that embodied and situated music making found in “everyday life” (De Nora, 2011) is linked to conceptual knowledge of music. In this study, investigating young children’s selections of semiotic resources when redesigning meaning in a dialogue of modes enables educators to determine how conceptual knowledge of music is established, extended and expanded through children’s developing understanding of the elements of music during redesign. The complexity of young children’s use of music imagery and genre and their grasp of music concepts is evident in their interactions in classroom music events. Awareness of the space of music dialogue allows for a deeper insight in children’s capacity for music invention.
