Senior

Ryder Perry BY Andrew Andersson If you’ve walked the halls of you have seen Ryder Perry. He’s pretty hard to miss is what I am trying to say. Standing at 6’ something and weighing 200 something this athlete has been attending the Ponder school district for all his life. His favorite teacher is Ms. Wallum and his role model is Coach Pittman, the former varsity football coach. Something unique that you might not know about him is that he only has one functioning kidney. He is known by his friends and acquaintances as a jokester, and at his time at ponder high school he played valuable roles on the varsity football team and the varsity track team. After graduation he hopes to “not die” and “to get a job”

Justin Elder BY Benjamin Montgomery

By now you have definitely heard of Justin Elder, or “Jelders” as everyone calls him. He has gone to Ponder for 2 years now, and even though he played both football and baseball, he pre- fers baseball. He is also a High School Musical fanatic. After high school, he plans on going to the University of Texas at Tyler to study civil engineering. Justin is the very first senior to actually give the incoming freshman decent advice. “Don’t wait until your junior year to start worrying about grades. Stay on top of your classes as a freshman, and your junior and senior years will be a breeze. Also, take your SAT in the fall of your junior year so you have plenty of time to retake it.” Charlie Bruce says, “I love Justin with all my heart. He has always been one of my closest friends. He is just such a great guy.” Jelders will definitely be missed next year. Spotlights

Elizabeth Richardson BY Allison Gordon Elizabeth Richardson, a conscientious individual, has been here in Ponder about 8 years. In her free time she spends time with friends, racing sprint cars, works horses and spends an enor- mous amount of time on calculus homework. She has been on the school’s Varsity team for 4 years, in band for 4 years, in region band 4 years, newspaper 1 year, and in Academic UIL (social studies, accounting, and feature writing) for 3 years. She would like to be a mechanical engineer. She sees herself in ten years racing sprint cars full time or doing crash testing for a car company. Some of her best memories of high school are the Friday night football games, hanging out in the band. Her advice to be left behind to the incoming freshman is, “Have fun and enjoy high school, but also don’t forget about academics. It could come back to bite you while you’re applying for college.”

Jacob Whited BY Noelia Sandoval

Jacob Whited or “Master Jake” has been in Ponder all his life. He’s played football all through high school, junior varsity freshman and sophomore year and varsity junior and senior year. His football experience was a little tough due to injuries, but on the bright side he’s enjoyed playing for Ponder and is very proud to call himself a lion. Football was also his most memorable moments in high school thanks to some great coaches and teammates. He explains his high school experience as a fun time and wouldn’t have had such a great experience without having his closest friends by his side. Jacob is a very caring, hardworking, kind spirited and self-confident person and likes to cheer people up and make every- one laugh. After high school he plans to attend Cisco College then transfer to Howard Payne University to major in criminal justice and continue his football career, good luck Jacob! Senior

Eric Dearmin BY Danny Rivera

Eric Dearmin is easily the best senior hands down. He thinks of others before he thinks of himself. This trait is apparent by his friends’ description of him as being caring and selfless. You can easily find Eric in the band hall, practicing or men- toring younger students. Some of his musical accomplish- ments include being a member of the ATSSB All State Band, Recipient of the Outstanding Solo Award, and had the honor of preforming at Carne- gie Hall in New York City which I had the pleasure of watching. Eric has attended Ponder High School for 6 years and influences lives around him including myself. After High School he plans to attend UNT and study in Music Performance.

Craig Reames BY Noelia Sandoval

Craig Reames has been in Ponder for ten years. He’s been in FCA, student council, basketball, cross country, track and NHS during his high school experience. He was also one of Ponders homecoming nominees, class officer, and our -un forgettable legendary announcements spokesman! His most memorable time in high school was going alongside the basketball team when they won state. He explains his high school experience as a as a long journey but learned many things about himself but also others. His advice is to not get caught up in high school, make good grades from the start and be successful. After high school Craig will attend a medical program at TWU. In all Craig has an amazing personality and has made a huge impact on everyone at Ponder High School especially his class- mates including Madison Hunsucker who stated, “Craig has an amazing wardrobe of cat shirts. He’s been a great friend since day one, and has made high school hilarious. He will be my homie forever.” Good luck on your future plans! Spotlights

Codi Garner BY Elizabeth Richardson

Codi Garner is known throughout Ponder High School for her posi- tive attitude, constant smile, and a laugh that seems to be infectious. She can easily be recognized as a good friend, the first person to say hi to a new kid, and someone with a gravitational personality, it seems as if everyone is friends with Codi. Fellow senior Jennifer Eppler says that “Codi is a lot of fun to be around and is a delight to have in class, especially dual credit.” In her time at PHS, Codi has been highly involved in a wide variety of different activi- ties including UIL, drama, and being an officer for the class of 2015. As a senior she was elected by her fellow classmates to be the treasurer for the senior class. Along with being an officer during her senior year, Codi also volunteers, competed on the spelling team for UIL academics and was involved in drama. As a senior Codi played the lead actress role in the drama departments fall play The House of Frankenstein and also participated in the spring play that the drama department performed for UIL. In her time at PHS, Codi says that her greatest accomplishment has been moving up eight positions in class ranking. After high school, Codi plans to attend the University of North Texas for her basic classes. Then, she plans to transfer to Boston University to become a neurosurgeon. Once she graduates, Codi plans to specialize in pediatric neurosurgery.

Bailey Brown BY Elizabeth Richardson Bailey Brown is among the many in the class of 2015 that have at- tended school in Ponder for the entirety of their academic career. In high school Bailey has been highly active in sports, participating in volleyball, basketball, and softball at various times during her four years at Ponder High School. From freshman year to junior year she was on the Lady Lions varsity volleyball team, also as a freshman Bai- ley was on the Junior Varsity basketball team. As a Junior Bailey started playing for the lady lions softball team and returned to the softball team her senior year. When asked to give a quote describing Bailey, fellow senior Grant Matheson said that “Bailey is a crazy girl and a truly awesome friend.” After high Bailey plans to attend school to become a dental hygienist. Varsity Boys Baseball By wILLIAM bENTON Ponder baseball; although they tried their hardest, they missed the playoffs by one game. The game in Pottsboro, the lions had a lead of 3-0 going into the 7th inning. They held on making the game last 14 innings, unfortunately losing in the close, intense game, making this the high- light of their season. This is the story of the Lions season and they look forward to winning next year.

Charlie bRUCE Signs With OPSU By Benjamin Montgomery On Thursday, April 16, Charlie Bruce signed to Oklahoma Panhandle State University. He is going there to play baseball and study finance. “I am ecstatic to go play baseball for OPSU, the thing I will miss the most is my beloved Shane. We have been through so much together in warmups and in between innings. I will forever remember Shane teaching me to step on the line before games. I will also miss Mr. Waldo, we are basically best friends.”

Varsity Girls Softball By Benjamin Dankesreiter The Lady Lions Softball team had a productive year. Despite their record they played hard and did their best in a tough district. “What a season!” says Coach Irons, the softball coach. She goes on to say how hard the Lady Lions have played this year. Good job, Ponder Softball!

Track By Kaylee Buell On the 1st and 2nd of May, seniors: Zach Simpson & Ryder Perry, junior: Shelby Melvin, and freshmen: Rylan Waldo and Kelsi McDaniel, all competed in ll-3A Regional Track and Field Championships in White- house, Texas. The Lions and Lady Lions who ran, jumped, and threw, broke many personal and school records. Ryder Perry and Zach Simpson both compered in shot put, Ryder with a throw of 45’6.25” placed 5th and Zach threw 42’1.25” placing him in 11th overall. Rylan Waldo ran in the 200 meter dash, placing 6th place with a time of 23.38 seconds. Shelby Melvin ran in the 3200 meter run, running a 12:46:04, plac- ing her in 6th. Kelsi McDaniel reached 8’6” in pole vault, putting her in 9th place overall. Zach Simpson, the only state qualifier for Ponder High School, placed 2nd in discus, throwing 144 feet and 3 inches, beating his personal school record. He will be competing for the Lions in the State Track and Field Championships in Austin, Texas on Saturday, May 15. At the State Track and Field Championships, Zach Simpson threw 143’ 10”, placing fourth. He just missed getting on the medal stand, but he threw amazingly and we are very proud of our Lion! Prom By Ally Gordon

The 2015 Prom got it kickin’ in the Chisolm Ball Room at the Texas Motor Speedway. Atendeesgot that lovely fourth floor view as they danced and played games. Games featured were foosball, pool, and shuffle board. There were beautiful arrangements of cookies, sweets, pretzels and fruits. The tables lined with candy and beads along with the 2015 PROM glasses.

Dancing started out with small groups on the dance floor which eventually turned into more of a large crowd. About halfway through the dance Craig Reames and Madison Hunsucker were crowned Prom King and Queen. The night continued on with music, games and more fun. It was an overall unforgettable night. UIL Academic Regionals By Shanon McGill The Ponder regional qualifiers attended the Regional UIL academic competitions for their respective subjects on April 24th-25th at the spring meet in Tyler Junior College. While, unfortunately, none of our Ponder participants were able to advance to state, there were a few who managed to place in their categories: • Kennedy Davis, 6th in Informative Speaking and a Semi-Finalist in Lincoln Douglas Debate • Eric Dearmin, Semi-Finalist in Lincoln Douglas Debate • Evan McWhorter, 8th place in Computer Science

Congratulations to all those who placed and thank you to all those who were able to participate. Smores Summer Recipe By Terryana Sledge Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Choir Takes Sweepstakes By Ally Gordon

The PHS Choir took an unbelievable turn last year thanks to the help of Mr. Carnley. UIL scores raised up to 1,2,2 in the song portion and a 1,2,2 in the sight reading portion. The previous year, before Mr. Carnely worked here, we had scored a 3,3,3 on the song portion and a 3,4,4 in the sight reading portion. This year’s UIL competition resulted in another change for the good. In the song portion of the competition we scored a 1,1,2. Sight reading was a little different due to the lack of our correct SAB styled music; instead we substituted with a SATB and still scored an unbelievable 1,1,1, landing us with a sweepstakes trophy. Thank you Mr. Carnley!

Ponder Drama Goes to Area By Noelia Sandoval The Ponder High School’s drama cast has made it to Area for the first time! Ponder’s drama team competed in district at Pottsboro High School, bi-district at and area at Grayson College, bringing home their winning plaque! They made it by putting on an amazing performance with an outstanding cast. They performed “The Insanity of Mary Girard” by Lanie Robertson with Alissa Gerik as Mary Girard, Aaron Williams as Warder/Fury, and Jamie Fipps as Mrs. Lum/ Fury, Kenneth Clevenger as Stephen Girard, Alex Taylor as Mr. Phillips/ Fury, Kamryn Doolittle Polly Kenton/Fury, and Mallory Gehrer as Mrs. Hatcher/Fury. The stage crew did a great job with Hanna Brown as stage manager, Kathryn Dankesre- iter as the light board operator and Jessie Cozak, Zack Derden, Rabecca Quesenbury, and Dustin Freed as their stage crew. The most memorable moments for Kamryn were getting to try on some crazy costumes and Mallory’s was to get to play hot potatoes with toy babies. All together the crew loved the hotel stay and the hospitality from other amazing people they met during competition. They felt so happy and success- ful after each performance and getting to try on costumes on at Rose’s. Alissa Gerik was awarded best actress and all-star cast, her friends that participated said she was amazing, and held everyone through the entire play. Aaron Williams was awarded honorable mention twice along with an all-star cast award. Alex Taylor was awarded honorable mention and Kenneth was awarded all-star cast. Hard work truly pays off. Good job guys! All the students in the One Act Play said Mr. McNair was the best at everything, and felt like they wouldn’t have made it without him. With his positive attitude towards everything the students reached their goals in succeeding. They also complemented him for having the most outstanding beard at the school. Overall the students felt thankful for all the support they got from parents, siblings and close friends who encouraged them to make this great achievement. Congratulations to the Ponder Drama team!
